We have a major issue with our Panasonic Viera plasma tv at my mums home, the tv basically won't turn off or on; either we need a new part for the tv or we need to buy a brand new tv. Heard that Panasonic tvs haven't got a particularly good reputation anyway and pulled the plug on selling em.

As well as that beforehand we had to swap over sky hd box swap overs, not sure if that is the cause however, but maybe its overheated or something with above average usage hence why its gone.

It maybe the case that we have to buy a brand new tv and the Panasonic tv what we have in my mums living room might be uneconomical to repair. To be fair it couldn't have come at a worse time as soon as we've settled into the new year.

A place where my mum could've purchased her tv would have been John Lewis as they have extra cover on it, rather than Tesco really, a mistake all of us have made really.

But i can reasure you theres nothing wrong with Panasonic televisions.

Also how old is the tv you bought from tesco?
Panasonic went through a spell of giving 5yr warranty on tvs.

Don't know where you got the idea that Panasonic are no good. They are generally considered at the top of the tree with Sony. Makes like Samsung and LG occupy the middle ground and the supermarket/Currys/Argos own brands trailing well to the rear.

I'm assuming you mean it is currently off and won't come back on, as to turn it off all you have to do is yank the mains plug if all else fails

That could be something like the fuse has popped in the plug or the power supply in the TV has failed. Though it would be worth finding out why the fuse has popped before replacing it if that is the cause. Fuses don't usually pop for no good reason.

Depending on the availability of spares and the actual cause of the problem you might be able to get the TV repaired. Though whether the cost of the repair would be economical or not is another matter. Perhaps get some quotes from a few local independent TV repair people?

My Panasonic plasma came with a 5 year warranty, and is still working great after 5 years. Until 4K becomes more affordable this TV will suit me just fine.

On my GT50 there is a power button 'hidden' on the back right of the TV - you certainly wouldn't notice it from the front. Someone moving the TV or adjusting its angle on the swivel stand could feasibly press this button accidentally, thus powering it off and making it unresponsive to remote control signals.

Panasonic are generally top quality.

The only thing they've pulled the plug on is manufacturing plasma and that was I believe down to the fact that that most sales were LED these days and so the cost of running the factory wasn't economic:

Plasma is generally considered superior to LED as many regard it as producing much better blacks and smoother motion.
