TV3 need to see sense and restore the show back to two half-hour episodes a week. Tuesdays/Thursdays 20:30 is probably the show's best bet, as it can inherit Fair City's audience, and realistically ITV will probably shift Emmerdale's second Thursday episode to Wednesdays, so that the sixth Corrie will be on Wednesday at 20:30.

If Red Rock maintains the one-hour format, or stays in its current slot, I honestly think it will be axed next year. The writing and continuity have been poor since September, and ratings are dwindling. I think RR is in trouble.

I have to agree. I don't watch 'soaps' as such but I have loved Red Rock. However, I too feel that the quality overall has dropped overall unfortunately.

The new season started well, but then it seemed to lose its way a lot of the time. It needs to have a bit of a shake up to get back on form in my opinion.

They have a large number of writers for the story lines I've noticed, with more often than not, a different writer for each episode, rather than one writer doing a few episodes in a block. I do wonder if this affects the quality of continuity.

Coincidentally, this has just been mentioned in a report about TV3's recent revenue losses

"This makes Red Rock one of the most successful exports in Irish broadcasting history, although the soap opera’s ratings in Ireland have dropped of late and it is currently on a mid-season break"

It seems too much of a coincidence that the show was pulled in and around the same time as Coronation Street and Emmerdale are returning to the channel. They must be making some connection between those two and the scheduling of Red Rock.

The one hour Monday evening slot doesn't seem to be working for them. They may well have been better leaving it as it was and not tampering with a winning formula - change for the sake of change is not always a good idea.

I have to agree. The season started strong, but this move to a serialised drama format, rather than soap, has not worked. It's a funny one because there always seemed to be lots happening in the two half hour episodes, but some of the hour one instalments have felt strangely flat. Whilst I have enjoyed seeing them explore Michael's darker side, there's less to grip me these days.

And Red Rock are insisting that the show is not threatened by the return of Coronation Street and Emmerdale to TV3 :

Frankly, Red Rock sound like they're disappearing up their own bottoms - much like the show has. They seem to think it's the best thing since sliced bread but this series has been above average and nothing more. I don't even miss it, to be honest.

Well, taking the show off air for two months was a disastrous mistake, I'm still not entirely sure what happened there. You could take any recurring drama off air for a couple of months mid run (such as Casualty or Holby City) and the audience would start to forget about it. They really need to get their act together again in 2017.

Absolutely. They need to drop the 9.30pm Monday format, it's not working.

Maybe they could give it a Sunday 9pm slot if they're going to keep it as an hour long show.

Yeah, I do think a weekend slot would work best. I think maybe 8.30pm on a Sunday so it can bounce off Fair City.

Red Rock will be celebrating its two year anniversary tomorrow, ahead of its return on Monday night, following that ridiculous and unexplained hiatus in November. The trailer looks really dark, gritty and action-packed as you'd expect.

Red Rock is back on TV3 this Monday at 9pm with a double episode of two hours. This promo has been on heavy rotation in recent days on TV3.

Fingers crossed we get back on track quickly and this is a good year for the show.

This is the other two minute trailer for 2017 :

I'm really annoyed with how TV3 total mucked around with the momentum that the show had steadily built through social media buzz and favourable reviews leading to a loyal and consistent fanbase. Red Rock faced a massive challenge in being the first soap (both here and the UK) to be launched the digital age of the 2010s. It openly embraced the new ways in which modern day audiences now consume terrestrial programing and have provided viewers with a show with a fresh and contemporary feel, a true sense of social realism and all the more credible elements of the soap opera genre. Unfortunately, the channel completely lost the run of themselves and messed about with the show's scheduling, despite it being in a very healthy position following some very well received storylines.

I'm pretty sure that the return of Corrie and Emmerdale is the thing that disrupted everything these last few months, perhaps even the schedule change. They assumed those two soaps would never be seen on the channel again but now they're back. I just hope they can get back up and running and get viewers watching again.
