I caught up with this week's episodes last night. A really good few episodes. I really like how they're focusing on a small group of characters first before they begin to expand on their universe. We're getting to know the characters much better this way rather than just being presented with the token bitch, token bad boy, token comic relief etc which often happens on other soaps. It's much more about character at the moment rather than random plot in the style of Fair City's "and this week you're a lesbian" approach to storylines.

We saw the first glimpses of the planned "crime of the week" element with Angela and Sharon calling to break the news of a death (technically not a crime but it was police work). Even this felt natural as it became more about the dynamic between Sharon and Angela and how they reacted to the case rather than a random crime shoehorned into the other storylines. I'm looking forward to seeing them opening up the Red Rock universe as I know that Angela's husband is due to appear and we also haven't seen much of the father and daughter who own The Neptune.

Regarding the Hennessy-Kiely feud, I'm beginning to think that Patricia might know a bit more about what Michael did on the night of Darren's death than she is letting on.

It was interesting to see Sharon's common sense and empathy overcoming Angela's desire to do things by the book and she was proven right in the end. The old man was dying and it would have achieved nothing by telling him that his daughter had passed away.

The father of the Kielys seems a very interesting character. Clearly a bit of a rogue but he seems to have some humanity under that tough exterior and may not be all bad. Not a good idea to deck that young Hennessy guy but emotions were very charged at the wake.

Have to say that I missed the gloriously ruthless Patricia Hennessy from Episode 3. I loved her sarcastic retort to the Guards: "no, it's the other one. That's the brick we keep on the floor"

Quite a nice hardened veteran- idealistic rookie scene in the car between Angela and Sharon.

It must be like the old days following a soap that's only on twice a week, I'd like to see it though

If you got to HOLA and enter the link to the TV3 Player, you can watch from anywhere. I love this show, the production value is good, the actors are capable and it's very entertaining. Reminds me of old soaps. Brill

The links above are working in the UK

I'd say there's a good chance the show will go three nights a week soon enough. The show has been really well received so far.

I think it would be best staying at two nights a week. Otherwise I think the excellent production style that we're currently seeing could become compromised.

When the scheduling was first announced, I was a bit dubious about them having five days between episodes as I thought the momentum of storylines could be lost but I actually don't mind the wait. As with all soaps, if it is a success in the long term it is very likely that they'll want to build on that success by expanding to three nights a week but I think we'll have the two episodes a week format for at least the first two years and if it's renewed beyond that then we'll probably see it expanded.

Tonight's episode seemed to finish very suddenly, it was like it ended mid scene. I wanted to see more of what happened with the Alzheimer's woman and where did all those stolen goods come from in her house. The criminal family story is still not as interesting as it should be, although I like the dad in the family. The mother's a witch.

Oops! Sorry, boogie woogie, I forgot that some of you aren't able to watch it at the same time as me. I'll be careful not to give spoilers in my posts in future.

Hola or similar might unblock it for you if you are in the UK?

Nice episode tonight, I'm able to watch it on TV3 Player now using the Hola extension on Chrome even though I'm in the UK

Now my thoughts, and I'll put it in a spoiler for those who have yet to watch it:

Loved last night's episode. There was a good focus on the Garda station which cast off any doubts I had about the mix of soap and cop show not being easy bedfellows. They seem to be using the stand alone stories to show us more layers of the cop's characters rather than just being shoehorned in. I'll stick the rest in spoilers for those who haven't watched yet.

The show seems to be settling into it's the stride. I'm really enjoying the crime of the week angle where they keep introducing new stories. It reminds me a lot of The Bill in the olden days before it became too 'soapy'.

Could be interesting. Liked this character (Sargent McGonigle) in last nights episode.

Quite a racy scene there between Bridget and Vincent- "not dead from the waist down after all"

McGonigle will clearly blackmail Sharon when the opportunity arises.

Yes, enjoyed the McGonigle character again tonight. Liked Sharon asking the 2 young ones what age they were and the look of disgust when she got the answer!
