Lots of chortling about this on my Facebook feed. At £8.99 an issue with 100 weekly issues, you'll only need a paltry £900 and two years to spare.

What a rip off.

and the bet that the magazine will produce 5 or 6 issues before folding

Every year, with out fail Deagostini or some such comes out with these ads.

I was very tempted because it does look cool, but 8.99 a week is out of my price range

You can get the original toy for about £40 on eBay.

Probably cost less time and money to build the full size one for the new movie.

Saw a 3D globe advertised too, £5.99 per week for 100 weeks!

I saw an ad for a Model Suzuki Hayabusa on one of the motoring channels.

I have the full size version and it cost less than this model. Ok, i've done some work on it, but really, £1k for a model.

I saw the Millenium Falcon ad, my only thought was what kind of idiot would fork out that kind of money!

Clearly someone buys these things but come on, £900 for a model?!?! clearly some idiots out there.

There will be plenty of Star Wars geeks going to buy this. Model looks cool but no way is it worth £900.

I was totally set on it.

But then I saw the 8.99 price tag, and then the small print.

100 issues, 4 issues a month. No chance! Especially when building it yourself over 2 years.

as a star wars fan, I could be persuaded out of perhaps 2 or 3 hundred quid. £900 not a chance.

Yeah, couple of £100 maybe but £900, no chance. Plus you have to build the bloody thing.

There's another thread about the mark up price of things.

I wonder how much this thing actually costs them to produce? Most of it will be molded plastic.
Even adding in the magazine production it would be fairly cheap overall.

No having to wait two years and you will be £850 better off.

I'm sure we've had threads about these magazine models before. Some have folded before the model is finished.

Total rip off.

What happens there then? Say it folded with 5 issues left?

I wonder how many magazines and models they produce.

I reckon they think people will buy one or two mags and then give up. They must calculate it to make a profit.

This is actually a die cast model, so is very high quality, its not an 'airfix' type thing.
