What? When it's finished I'll have something that's 26m across and 8m tall?

But then I paid a bit more attention and realised they were saying it's a 1:1 replica of a studio model of the Millennium Falcon.

Bah!

And a lot more for the CGI team (its well beyond my level) and the software (you're talking over a grand here).

They always did make obscene amounts of profit from the kits they made. Crazy!

I've always thought with partworks magazines that they base the production run on how many copies the first issue sells. I can't imagine many people would buy the first issue if they didn't intend to commit to the whole thing.

I remember they tried a buffy the vampire slayer series many years ago. i think it worked out something like £300 odd quid just to get a single season's worth of episodes

Also, what is stopping them putting the price up for the last few issues - after someone has spunked around £850 and only needs a couple of bits - what would stop them making the final two copies £60 or something ridiculous?

Have you got a link to that? It seems unlikely a well known company like DeAgostini would do that without there being an uproar.

It happens regularly. A lot of the part works are trialled in certain areas first and if they don't sell well enough are abandoned and never get a national roll out. I find it a bit of a dubious practice. I know no one wants to commit to a full national run if its losing money but from a collector point of view there should be some recompense, refund of purchase costs or something. I know it may be in the small print somewhere but it should be made extremely clear when something is a trial publication.

Oh yeah. I can just imagine Chewbacca and Darth hanging around Parliament Square with their placards and Boba Fett handing out the tea and biscuits.
