This is an interesting thread of obscure cover versions of famous and well-known songs.

I will start us off;

"How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston covered in 1986 by Turkish singer Arzu Ece who was famous in the 80s and 90s and represented Turkey twice in Eurovision (1989 and 1995) and tried for them God knows how many times before, and after her tries:

Here's Vapeur Mauve a cover Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze done in French by the fantastic but little known 60s Canadian band The Haunted

Wire's Map Ref 41°N 93°W was covered by My Bloody Valentine. That's fairly obscure.

Allison Williams of "Girls" fame hung out with Youtube stars Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider whilst studying at Yale. One of her more unusual covers is Tik Tok sung Disney style!

Talking of Sam Tsui, here are a couple of his covers:

Happy Mondays covered Staying alive by the Bee Gees. A great version, but i'd say quite obscure. It was recorded for Malcolm McClaren's 'The Ghosts Of Oxford Street' film.

Also, anything from the Acid Brass album - brass band covers of old rave hits like What Time Is Love.

And, an album called Acoustica, which is a chamber group called Alarm Will Sound performing aoustic, classical versions of Aphex Twin tunes.

My favourite obscure cover has to be Philip Glass' cover of Icct Hedral by Aphex Twin.

I always enjoy strange covers.

Here are some of the more interesting ones in my collection, each from a different genre:

Hi-STANDARD - California Dreamin; (hilarious cover by a japanese punk band)

Los Pericos - Darkness (amazing reggae cover of the Police song)

Long Beach Dub Allstars - Take Warning (ska cover of Operation Ivy)

The Cure - World in My Eyes (The Cure covering Depeche Mode? Yes!)

Bjorn Again - Girls on Film (an ABBA tribute band covering Duran Duran... that 80s synthbass is amazing)

Suzanne - Françoise Hardy. She sounds like your big sister warning you to be careful who you go with.

Shy Guy by Diana King was covered by Aswad and Easther Bennett from Eternal in 2002. Fell way below the radar.
