Heres the truth about ratings instead of "Mirror" spinning itself!
Ratings were also excellent for UK.

"Doctor Who finished the year with its highest-rated season ever on BBC America. Plus, the annual Doctor Who Christmas special clocked 2.31 million viewers and was the No. 1 nonsports telecast in all of cable in its time period among adults 25-54 in Live+3.

BBC America LogoThe Christmas special delivered 1.3 million adults 25-54 in Live+3 and totaled 2.62 million total viewers in Live+3 combining the 9 PM premiere with 11:45 PM and 2:30 AM replays. The 12th Doctor’s first Christmas special more than doubled the viewership of the 11th Doctor’s first Christmas special, A Christmas Carol, in 2010.

BBC America was the No. 1 network on Twitter and Tumblr and Doctor Who: Last Christmas was the No. 1 nonsports primetime show on both platforms in all of television on December 25. Doctor Who is pacing as one of Twitter’s 10 most-tweeted original dramas in all of cable for 2014.

Very interesting - excellent ratings, across the world.
But genuine facts don't matter to the Mirror - the show is in freefall decline, sack Moffatt (sic), everyone hates Doctor Who, it's such a disaster...

It also performed well in Canada, incidentally.

Quote:
“Season 8 of DOCTOR WHO is the Most-Watched Series in Space History and Saturday Night’s Most-Watched Series

Just days shy of the Season 8 finale of DOCTOR WHO, Space confirms its #1 series of all time has hit epic proportions this season. Now averaging 773,000 viewers for Peter Capaldi’s debut season as the Twelfth Time Lord, Season 8 of DOCTOR WHO is the most-watched season of the program to date, up nearly 25% compared to Season 7 and ranking as the #1 TV series on Canadian specialty television. In fact, DOCTOR WHO is the most-watched television program on Saturday nights in Canada during its 9 p.m. ET timeslot among total viewers and all key demos.”

Not too shabby in Australia, from what I recall, either. I'm intrigued how the show performs in other locations. Certain stops on the World Tour, for example.

So why do the "glad rags" have it in for the show then?
Or is it just a case of trying to sensationalise to sell newspapers that arent selling?

The writer of the article is not a fan of Moffat Who. Probably retweeted the NTA Capaldi snub with glee.

A bit of that, but the tabloids also have it in for the BBC in general - their business model is collapsing and can't compete with the licence-funded BBC, so they would prefer that the BBC be brought down to the marketplace.

When Doctor Who is left out in the wilderness to die without dignity on an axed channel with a 10.35pm repeat on BBC One and a combined overnight of 1.76m...

...there probably won't be a mention

(Goodbye Waterloo Road, I used to love you, really)

The article was in the SUNDAY PEOPLE, not the Mirror. The article does state this. The People doesn't have it's own website any more. I think that paper's not going to last much longer to be honest.

Sorry. Blame Fry and Laurie...

Edit: You didn't mention Series averages did you. Whoops.”

Series 4 my favourite by far.
