A non-hate Madonna thread.

Seen on twitter others saying this too. That certain tracks such as 'Illuminati' & especially 'B I'm Madonna' cut out so bad, the bass completely drowns vocals out and it kind of crackles.

You can also here at the beginning of 'B I'm Madonna' a "this" before she's even said "you're gonna love this"!

I really wanna listen to these songs properly, but the quality is making it so hard to listen to. I hope these get brushed up before release

Considering, the fact that this was perhaps the most rush -released set of tracks that the bosses of Interscope and iTunes had encountered owing to the leaks ...it was cut and edge last of the minute release. I actually think the sound production sounds great, despite i expect being in their form before final record label mastering purposes. Any crackles that you refer to I think are intentional. Equally the bass in the later two tracks are bass driven songs, so you would expect them to be high in the mix..but actually I'm surprised how they don't drown out the vocals. And how engaging they are for their purpose. My only criticism would be the track listing order.

The mastering of tracks can go through many processes.... and higher order decision beyond the producer and singer/songwriters control.... and for different purposes including iTunes itself. I expect at a later stage that the tracks will be remastered for iTunes specifically.

My other half is a producer ... and in the digital age ....there is some notable shoddy production on final released albums.

eg. it is such a shame when this happens on great tracks or albums by artists

Kylie - Kiss Me Once
(perhaps one of the stellar songs ...but the mix is terrible... the bells , bass and synths drown the vocals and in some parts the lyrical and vocals are inaudible. Such a shame. )

Kylie - Aphrodite
(not sure what happened here...it is her most epic song in years full of sass and melody but the mix is terrible in places ...dated guitar synths ....this should have been the lead single ...)

Britney Spears - Alien
(again a wonderful song - perhaps her best ... but so poorly produced. Even the writer William Orbit complained about the final treatment)

Weren't those two songs produced by Diplo? Like I posted in the other Rebel Heart thread, he's not a producer I rate highly and find it quite funny that people are dissing the production on the songs.

Just from the preview on iTunes, I know that Bitch I'm Madonna is a complete car crash. I have no real intentions on listening to the full song.

I'll stick with Ghottown and Living For Love for now. The only two genuinely great, imo, songs I've heard so far.

I don't mean the song quality in terms of how good it is, I mean the actual physical production but whether or not it's been rush-released or not, when people are buying songs that are thought to be the best quality, it's kind of not really a miracle they were quickly edited at all, they should be satisfactory

derek , i was not referring to the quality of song but the production - the master and mix . hence why i am so surprised at the final released mix and master of some tracks. e.g. kylie - kiss me once; kylie - aphrodite, britney spears -alien; as aforementioned. Both great songs but with poor production. Whereas histastic is discussing the quality of the song in general. Diplo does produce and actually Bitch Im Madonna has some great production qualities in places, perhaps higher than the quality of the song itself. But as said before the production is above satisfactory and great despite the rush release. Production takes time. These tracks were not given time to be further produced owing to the leaks released. They would have undergone several more production edits before the scheduled April release (5 months away release from the Dec leaks). So actually, respect for them sounding so good so early on.

I guess I"m not an audiophile in that way. I always read not just in relation to Madonna but other artists as well that people don't like the mixing or the mastering. I never hear those things. I guess I relate to music on more of an emotional instinctive level. I tend to look at the quality of the vocals, lyrics, melodies and the passion the singer and the other musicians put into the song not so much the technical things.

They sound fine to me, any crackles or bass will be there intentionally.
