I find it quite interesting when people say "she was better in the fame/fame monster era, before she started bigging herself up".

What I know is, as a fan from around 2009, is Gaga's quotes in particular are all on par with her recent stuff, take this for an example:

On 'The Fame' album in 2008:
"I just feel like this record is really different- you've got club bangers to more 70s glam to more singer-songwriter records to rock music. [...] The Fame is not about who you are—it's about how everybody wants to know who you are! Buy it and listen to it before you go out or in the car. [...] I think you've really got to allow artists' creativity to marinate. It took me a while but really delving into myself I finally got it. I couldn't be more proud of it. It's not just a record. it's a whole pop art movement(later describing BTW album as the album of the century ) It's not just about one song.
"The Fame is about how anyone can feel famous. Pop culture is art(as 2013 revealed ). It doesn't make you cool to hate pop culture, so I embraced it and you hear it all over The Fame. But, it's a sharable fame. I want to invite you all to the party. I want people to feel a part of this lifestyle."
All I think is, is that with 'The Fame' & 'TFM', the fun was in it, the fun seemed to be removed or watered down a lot come BTW.

I still stand by the fact that a handful of ARTPOP songs would fit in on The Fame and that AP is most closest to TF than any of her work since. (songs like MANiCURE, Donatella & Fashion! for example would fit in on The Fame).

I still think BTW is her best album but you're right. Her music hasn't changed that much comparing those eras.

I think people who are pop fans love the simplicity and 'fun' side to pop, which is why Gaga was such a hit back in the early days. The music was brought out just as dance was starting to take over and people found it fun to watch her.

Then come Born This Way, the gimmicks got more extreme but the fun angle was removed - look at the Born This Way, and Marry the Night videos - they're so serious. That put with the constant speeches and blabbing on and on when people just wanna have fun and dance and sing.

The material hasn't changed that much, it's just the way she takes herself so seriously.

Gaga fans really need to face facts.

Red one was the reason she became successfull. It was all his production. Once he left her she went crap and the decline began.

That's why she hasn't had a hit single in four years.

I think Lady Gaga has changed a lot ....I see her evolving as an artist true to herself ...it is insulting not to see her evolution... but agreed this has led to many questioning who she is ...she is somewhat of a chameleon.....and all the better for it

thefame - dance rnb pop (influences of the time: mainstream pop/urban pop - Gwen Stefani, CA, Madonna (hard candy))
the fame monster - edm, classic pop and rock (the darker artist emerges among inspirations from classic pop artists like eurythmics, ace of base)
born this way - edm/rock/pop (a central rock element set against either pop or dance)
artpop - alternative edm - rave;techno; and pop (more a departure from the sound of the expected but mixed with the centre of pop - current pop, 60s pop, 80s and 90s pop)

As a huge music fan of artists like David Bowie; The Beatles; Led Zeppelin; Kate Bush; Radiohead; etc when I have the misfortune to see posts like yours I feel the urge to reply when I would not otherwise have an interest irrespective of whom I like/dislike:

From the Oxford English dictionary:

Definition of "fact" in English:

Noun

A thing that is known or proved to be true.

Synonyms
(facts) Information used as evidence or as part of a report or news article
Lady Gaga's last significant hit was "Do What U Want" which was a global Top 20 hit including UK #9 & USA #13 December 2013/January 2014.

Even someone with not the best grasp of Maths should be able to work out that is significantly less than 4 years ago.

As for the producer RedOne he has hardly gone on to be a significant producer of other artists since splitting from Lady Gaga has he. In fact his production career has fallen away far more significantly then the Italian New York based female singer.

So in short what you have posted is a factually incorrect opinion.

There are a number of reasons why Lady Gaga is less successful than her imperial phase circa The Fame Monster; I would suggest the usual case of over exposure + familiarity breeds contempt/a backlash from the public/media; and a 20 something artists getting intoxicated on their own success believing they know better than others around them were significant factors in her decline; alongside some astonishingly dreadful single choices for her last two albums; and not having key videos in place for maximising promotional activities are also key factors in her decline; as the likes of Katy Perry; & Taylor Swift don't seem to make those sort of elementary errors.
