hi after forgetting my password for this forum had to reset password but was told i had a invalid certificate any way i appear to be logged in ok now.
i recently bought a 500 GB external hdd and succesfully copied a folder and its programmes on to my new external hdd but try copying a second folder and it's programmes and they end up in the first folder so how do i get a second folder in to it's own slot on my external hdd along with it's programmes? Thanks

Presuming that you are Windows based, use Explorer and just navigate the USB drive as you would any other drive on your PC. There's no big secret to it.

Ah right, it would have been useful to put the full make and model details in the OP.

Here:

How To - Copy & Move Video Files

In the MEDIA List FUNC+ Menu

You can make a Directory eg. FILMS

MEDIA > FUNC+ > Others > New Folder

Move To to move recordings into a directory. (doesn't add any space requirement.)

Copy To is used with an external drive (160GB+ Formatted by the DHR to XFS)

The HD programs will be encrypted for playback only on a DS DHR or DHP machine.

I think the idea might be to set up the folders on the USB drive independent of what's on the DS box. Then copy the individual programmes in to the respective folders.

ok well not much success tried moving the cursor on to the folder and then copy i did then try to select choose path which is usb front the ext hdd on the cursor keys clicked to the right it said empty for the folder then selected the path and away it went
after copying checked everything but the second folder ended up in the sub section of the first folder ie the programmes that are related to the first folder the new folder
was there so tried another way using the navigation keys got the folder i wanted to copy over to the ext hdd put a tick that corrosponed to that folder and repeated the above steps only to find out the same problem occured which makes me wonder if i should
under the empty slot type in the name of the new folder this though would defeat the object of automaticaly moving folders and the programmes over to the ext hdd? again thanks for your replies

will i need to create a new folder manually for eg: the tube and copy over to the ext hdd
so it finds it's own slot then copy over the associated programmes which will go to the correct section?

The only difference between Move and Copy may be what happens to the original recordings after being copied to the external drive. Move could well delete the originals while Copy will retain them.

However both processes involve transferring exactly the same amount of data at exactly the same rate from one hard drive to another. So that bit will be the same whichever option you choose. Any deletion of the originals is likely to be pretty quick by comparison to the data copying stage so won't add too much to the overall duration.

just wanted to be sure i will be using move in future as it takes a long time to delete programmes off the pvr's hdd using the copy mode even though ds sent out a software upgrade it hasn't made much difference. thanks for your reply

What exactly is taking the time when you delete manually? Is it the time to navigate the menus to find the delete option or what happens after you have pressed "Delete"? If it sits there whirring away processing the disk after you have pressed "Delete" then it is always possible that it will take just as much time using the Move option.

The only bit that may be speeded up is the process of selecting the file and finding the Delete option by hand.
