Hello lovely people,
I really hope I can find some answers. I'm not too technical when it comes to phones computers etc so please bear with me.....

My ex husband has bought our daughter a iPhone 5c for her birthday, the contract, I believe is in his name, he has an iPad. An iPhone 6 and his wife also has an iPhone. My question is this, can he link my daughters new phone to his other Apple products?
Can he see the numbers my daughter rings or texts?
Can he actually read the texts from one of his other devices?

I know he changed her phone password from his iTunes account, something about it being a 'rescue email???. If this is true, can I change the rescue email to my email? If so, how? I do have my own iTunes account.

I cannot ask my ex husband as we are not on good terms and everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie, hence the reason he is my ex husband.

Any help/advice would be gratefully received, thank you in advance.

If you are that worried do a Factory Reset on the phone then set it up again from scratch with details only you and your daughter know. And with only her own or your Apple ID.

Doing this will zap all personal data on the phone, photos, e-mails etc. But won't change stuff like the phone number or anything like that. But if your ex did do anything unwanted to the phone that will be zapped as well.

In order to do that, you'd need the password for the original iTunes account (i.e. the ex's account). It's to counteract people nicking phones and just re-setting them.

Not sure I have needed an iTunes account password to reset the work iPhones I've done. Can't recall ever seeing a prompt for one. Not even needed the four digit lock passcode for the phone either.

Well interesting replies on how to set it up but it didn't really answer the OP's question.

I know nothing about Apple products and have never owned one so this is purely out of interest.

In the absence of setting the phone up as described above is it possible for the ex to read texts and see who she called? I realise the ex will get the bill and be able to see phone numbers but will he be able to read the texts? Do iPhones automatically back them up?

If the phone is backed up to iCloud and and you were to restore the backup to another phone you would be able to see a history of calls and text. You need the login details for the Apple ID to do this though.

If I read that correctly, you (or your ex) want to be able to read all texts to and from her phone and see the call history for all incoming and outgoing calls from her phone on your own devices?

No you can't, and if he (or you) feels the need to monitor her every communication she probably isn't old enough to be given a smartphone, if she is old enough for a smartphone then he (and you) needs to show a little more respect to her privacy.
