Johnnie Walker played this record on his Sunday show which years ago he wouldn't have touched with a barge pole. I remembered it well as i was in my 20's by the 70's and this was considered trash by us 'purists'!

However it reached number 1 in the UK and six other countries.

Guess how many copies it sold.

NO CHEATING either!!

About £30,000? It doesn't sound as crap as I thought it would.

Way out.......assuming you meant 30,000 copies and not £'s!?

Yes it was a catchy song.....plus the singer always wore hot pants and thigh high boots.

Oh God, it was massive, and singles sales were big back then. Four million (wild guess) . Sally Carr had a, hmmmm, distinctive voice. I never liked Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, but had a soft spot for Soley Soley.

Im not going to guess, but I would think it was in the millions, as it sold across large parts of the world. Its great to see the lovely and very underrated (and tragic) Sally Carr - like you I didnt particularly like this song, but 'Soley Soley' still sounds great.

She also had a cracking pair of legs, nice arse and long blonde hair......but as a Led Zepp and Pink Floyd fan you couldn't possibly confess to 'fancying' her. It would mean automatic expulsion!

Never mind the 70's. Many wished they were around in the 60's with Radio Caroline and various other Pirate radio stations, the start of the mini skirt, and brilliant groups coming and going (some still with us of course).

I was a teenager of the 60's...........and yes it was great!

I had no end of sleepless nights as a kid with Chirpy Bloody Cheep Cheep. Thought I'd wake up in the morning and my mum would be gone. And it made me cry to think of "little baby Don" without a mum any more

I'm 50 now and I still can't listen to it

I would advise against listening to this. I once got that song stuck in my head for about five days and it nearly drove me mad.
