This material sets very quick, they have done a couple of walls in the back with just the base coat, i think the finished coat might be effected but that is put on one day and finished the next.
The fished coat is silicone.

I have an old air raid shelter as a garden shed. Presumably these used to be buried in the war, or sandbagged or something?

It's on Sky Atlantic - they have just started a new series, but the previous ones get transmitted repeatedly.

I will have a look out for that.

Your air raid shelter sounds interesting. Do you know what type it is? perhaps you could grow things on it?

Hi Moots.:+)))))))))))))))

Some air raid shelters were above ground and gave some protection from shrapnel when bombs explode nearby.
Some underground air raid shelters were well below ground and these were usually pretty big and allowed all those living in a road to get shelter.
they have all probably been filled in now or broken up.

Hi Barra, I've heard some bangers going off, but never expected so many trick or treaters, was quite surprised.
Had plenty of stuff in originally but O/H gave loads to 2 of our grand children.

Good morning you lot.

A pinch and a punch for the first of the month.

A few trick or treaters here last night but all of the pre-arranged variety. Lots of fireworks going off in the background.

A lot cooler this morning but not foggy here.

G'Day Lurkers

another Mootle Moment struck me yesterday The implement used to prick one's finger to get a blood droplet to test for glucose levels comes in the form of a long black cylinder. You put one end against the finger chosen to be the victim of the moment, and press hard on the other end of the implement to make a lancet dive out and plunge into your finger... I am used to finding I have pricked an inaccessible part of my finger, but yesterday I tried unsuccessfully (3 times) to get the little lancet to emerge and stab my finger, as I waited, quivering with fear and anticipation. It was only after the 4th attempt that I realised I had been using one of those Sharpie pens.

They re also selling the boxed sets in record shops.

My air raid sheleter is made of very thick metal - a sort of oblong shape, with a curved roof over the top, also made of very strong metal, but with only a wooden door, and a concrete floor. I have various creepers trained over it and it looks very nice

I'm the sort of person who double locks everything and won't answer the door. I hate Halloween with a passion, especially as it is the date on which my mother died.

Hi Moots.:+))))))))))))))))))

Maybe you can send in a sample of ink?

Thats an Anderson Shelter erected before world war 2, it should have been sunk 4ft into the ground and covered in earth.
This explains it all.

That's very like my shelter, but the walls of mine aren't made of corrugated steel, they are flat. Mine looks a lot sturdier than the one illustrated. Come to think of it, the top is also not corrugated.

I did hear a rumour that there was one of those huge shelters under my front lawn, but I think I will just leave it there.....

Foggy here, 8c at present, getting warmer later apparently.

BBC are claiming that yesterday was the UK's warmest November day on record.

Hi Moots.:+))))))))))))))))))

That isn't an air raid shelter then, not sure what it is but the corrugation takes the impact from an explosion and it would be no good above ground.

You could well have one below ground if the house was built before the second World War.

Andersons were not the only type of shelter, but they were the most common because they were given out free to poorer families, and everyone else had a choice of several pre-formed ones (the flat ones have reinforced concrete under the metal) or built their own from instructions.
Andersons were rare in larger houses because they only fitted six people in like sardines.
Some garden shelters were put up in a rush because a design fault in some of the communal shelters meant that they were unsafe, so people built their own, often improvising because they were in short supply for a while.

Good Morning Honey.:+))))))))))))))))))))

I understand there were many types of shelter, not sure what Moots has really but if it is just flat metal above ground it wouldn't have been much good as an air raid shelter as flat sides and above ground would provide protection as a blast would surely blow it away and shrapnel would enter as there would be nothing to deflect it.

I remember going into a concrete bunker just over the road from were I lived, it's been knocked down now of course.
But I remember sometimes getting under the stairs when the siren went.
