hello all

quite foggy here this morning too!

I'm having awful problems with my landline connection which is connected to my burglar alarm, and my poota's router. I have been leaping around like mad all morning, checking things and really scaring the chihuahuas, who would have preferred to spend the time napping on their Snugglesafe heated pads, but have been following me around instead. I thiiiink I have isolated the cause, which is my router, arggh.

Hi Moots.:+))))))))))))))))

Oh dear, not a good start to the day.

Not really surprised the dogs are scared, I would be.

What seems to be up with the router?

I understand there were many types of shelter, not sure what Moots has really but if it is just flat metal above ground it wouldn't have been much good as an air raid shelter as flat sides and above ground would provide protection as a blast would surely blow it away and shrapnel would enter as there would be nothing to deflect it.

I remember going into a concrete bunker just over the road from were I lived, it's been knocked down now of course.
But I remember sometimes getting under the stairs when the siren went.”

You must have been very tiny, Hicky? Do you remember it as being frightening?

I suppose any shelter was better than none. Not much stood up to a direct hit but much of the injuries were from flying debris and glass.
Those basic morrison shelters for indoors were very effective, even in a direct hit.

I cant imagine people coping in the same way if something similar happened now.

I hope you still have the alarm if the connection fails? *worried smiley*

I was going to school then, but don't think I would have been frightened too young maybe to know fear.

You must be an awful lot older than you look then. The war started 76 years ago and you cant be that old, surely?

You look absolutely nowhere near your age.
I was reading about an old air raid shelter under a school in Birkenhead that is going to be open to the public. That should be worth a visit.
The parents of the pupils paid for it to be built so that they could all come home from evacuation.

I think it must be old and tired, like, er, me... The tech support from the alarm company phoned me back and told me tersely that if the alarm says telecom failure, it is the fault of the line. Sooo, I (again) disconnected the router and the ADSL filter, and lo! the telecom failure disappeared.
I just don't know why this didn't happen when I first tried that this morning...
I wonder what my BP has soared to - life used to be so simple

It was still set when I got up this morning - it was only after I unset it that the telecom failure message popped up The tech support man told me that the alarm must be OK...

I seem to recall the same thing happening several years ago and I had to get a new router..

Hi Honey,
That's nice, lol.

Interesting, must be a big shelter.

Hi Moots, is the alarm not connected to the router then?

Sometimes just resetting the router will sort things out.

My last problem at the other place worked out to be an ADSL filter fault, I could get the internet on the router but couldn't use the phone, the filters are just for the phones or non broadband connections.

Routers seldom have problems, it is usually some other device or connection that is at fault or the router software has hung up.
Routers like most devices are just computers of sorts and often need a reset to bring them back to working normal.

For ages I could only see extra giant adverts and nothing else. I had to wipe out all the cookies and then it came back in a ruined form with the smilies so tiny they are almost invisible.

Hi Barra, never noticed anything different.

2 days ago any time I was on Firefox the system kept freezing for 10 seconds at a time, I could watch a video as that froze as well, after a day like that I decided to change browsers to MS Edge, at least that problem has gone.

I had removed and reloaded Flash, reloaded Firefox, rebooted Puter and all still the same so decided to try MS Edge, problem is Win10 hasn't allowed for add ons so 'AD Plus' doesn't work so I am buried in Adverts, which I hate.

I had to turn my adblocker off before FF would load DS - whch just makes everything run even slower ! grrr

Ahh I see - I did also reset my router (quite a few times), so maybe that was what got it to work again, eventually..

I've noticed that if I inadvertently run my mouse thingie (?cursor) over the black bit at the top of the screen, a little pictorial drop down panel happens, with pictures on it and a sort of index. This is something new this month

Has anyone heard Adele's new single? Is it any good?

No. Its crap. The king has no clothes on. The opening lines are very like Lionel Richie's "Hello" which just reminds people that it is a far superior song, catchier, and with better vocals.
Apart from that, its ok. (and other, less churlish people, love it)

Is it just me with teeny tiny smillies then?

Hi Moots, you are right, if you linger over the icons you get pictures of what is in that category as well.
I think they tried this new software a while ago but reverted back to the old, must be trying it again.

Which means they have been doing some maintenance yesterday.

Heard the song when it was released, to me it's just another song to add to the millions out there.

Hi Honey, love small smillies but won't be using them until they take the limit off.

Evening (almost Morning) all

anyone watch the new pottery equivalent of bakeOff on BBC2 today? Fascinating, although the smutty innuendo has already been done to death on Bake Off.

If yiu say it is NBG Honey, I won't buy it! I think Adele was very ill advised to take all that time off.
