Thanks Telly - I will mention it to the v e t next time but I'm hoping that it's unlikely our dogs will come into contact with it, given their holiday arrangements
![]() Our Cassie was rescued from Dog's Trust as a puppy. Her mum and pups were apparently left outside the gate one night in a cardboard box, mum tied to the gates. She was a mixture of all sorts, but so gentle, friendly and good with the children. |

Good morning everyone.
Re: Kennel cough. When my Cassie was still alive she had to go to kennels quite a lot because I was working away such a lot. (Luckily I had found a kennel right on top of a hill, the owners were sheep farmers and Cassie knew them well and loved them. She had a lot of freedom there, playing with the lambs and the ponies.) She was under the care of a holistic vet who was against the yearly vaccination procedure. We took blood tests every year instead and vaccinated only whenever her antibody count was down. For kennel cough he gave Cass a nasal spray vaccination, rather than an injection one. I was so convinced I was doing everything right - not over-vaccinating, feeding her natural home prepared food only, never having chemicals in the house etc etc. - but she still died of massive kidney failure when she was only 12 years old. And 4 years later I am still wracked with guilt. (Sob) And I have no idea what I did wrong. Which is why I don't trust myself to ever having another dog - that, and because Cass is still very much living in my heart. Sorry! Didn't mean to pour out my heart. aww ive just seen Cassies picture she is gorgeous

Good morning everyone!
So sorry for my sudden "departure" - I had to dash off in a hurry to help out with a job crisis in Berlin. The WiFi there was prohibitively expensive, so I only used it to check emails, etc. But I am back now in rainy Wales. Honey, Happy happy Birthday for yesterday !!!! Moots, how is your carpet doing? Have a great weekend everyone! Rushing off to Berlin sounds exciting. ![]() Quote:
Oh - forgot to include this little story - for all you cat people out there
Quote:
Happy Belated Birthday Honey!! hope you had a fab day being spoiled
not sure where this warm weekend is we were supposed to get, its done nothing but rain....for a change hope everyone is well The weekend turned out pretty hot after all. Quote:
Evening all - I don't know whether our dogs have kennel cough vaccine, I've never thought about it. They don't go into kennels but they do stay with my son's dog walker sometimes - maybe I should ask
Lovely day today, it was 21 deg when I got in the car this afternoon: Quote:

Good Morning TW and Everyone.:+)))))))))))
Sorry to hear about Cassie, not sure why you think you did something wrong, shouldn't the blood tests have shown up a problem with the kidneys? I thought 12 years was a good age for a dog, i'm not very well up with animals. I would be suspicious of holistic vets though myself. ![]() Quote:
Hello all
This is the one that is given via the nose, JoJo. My v e t said it was the only one available ![]() Quote:
aww TW I'm so sorry you are still so sad. You did your very best for Cass and that is all that matters. What sort of dog was she? Maybe her breed is susceptible to getting kidney failure? 12 years is quite a good age for some dogs I think.
I'm not too well informed about the holistic approach, but I would have thought that maybe it relies on the benefits incurred by the placebo effect, which would probably not occur to the doggy patient... Please tell me, what is an allopathic Quote:
Aaaaaargh - my ancient poota seems to be developing a stubborn mind of it's own! It simply doesn't DO what I tell it to do, and choses an alternative, which is very confusing to me
I see Liz Jones in her YouMagazine column doesn't know what DS is. *Raised eyebrows smilie* I thought that DS warned all housemates to abstain from checking out DS to see what comments have been made about them. Apparently her (not) fiance's ex has been dissing Liz on DS. Is there an anti-Liz thread?? ![]() ![]() Not fiance? Is it all off for good? |

I haven't kept up with Liz Jones since she was on CBB but I remember that she was a bit strange, I don't think I warmed to her.
The lady who grazes her horses in our field is keen on homeopathy for her animals, particularly for the older ones - coincidentally I was only talking to her about it the other day. |

Hi Moots, Cass was a lurcher/terrier cross (fast and naughty). Pic.
As far as I know, there are KC intravenous vaccinations - http://www.petplace.com/article/dogs...t-for-your-dog - but they may not be available in this country. I don't know. Allopathic means mainstream, using drugs rather than alternative remedies. The holistic approach encompasses every aspect of healing: homeopathy, herbal, acupuncture and behavioral treatments. And I am a firm believer in this kind of approach - not only for animals. I have not been to see a mainstream doctor since 1975, when I fell off my bike....... ![]() Thank you JoJo. (heart smiley). See above for an article on KC vaccs. She did have a great life - but so did I whilst she was with me. ![]() Quote:
Thank you Telly.
Rushing off to Berlin sounds exciting. ![]() I think our Spidey would make a fine policeman. He could sit on the burglars chests until they begged for mercy, and then sing his special version of jailhouse rock until they confessed all. Thank you Janet. The weekend turned out pretty hot after all. It isnt just for dogs in kennels, it is just like a common cold. I think it is usually only dangerous for old or sick dogs. You obviously did everything you possibly could to give her a great life. Testing for kidney disease when there was no reason to suggest it wouldnt have been best for her. We cant be testing them for everything, and you followed the advice of a vet you trust. I understand how you feel about not having another dog. I think about those we have lost every single day, but it is a shame that another dog wont benefit from the lovely life you can provide for them. Maybe one day. ![]() It depends on the breed. Generally small ones live longer, and larger ones shorter. Deerhounds and wolfhounds often only live for eight years. ![]() It can be given by injection too. ![]() Well, horses dont understand about placebos, and there is some very effective homeopathic medicine for horses, even if the method seems far fetched. Well, i think it is supposed to be discussing the column, but there is a lot of dissing. I think its in show biz. Not fiance? Is it all off for good? I must check out the Liz Jones thread! I think at the moment the engagement is off, again, but they are still an item. I really don't know why, seeing she is so mean about him in her column. |

Aww she is beautiful Cass, and, OMG, almost the spitting image of my late lamented Arthur, the Mad Giant Yorkie... *sobs a bit*
![]() I see from the article that TW posted (very good article TW) that the infecting agent is a bordetella. As Bordetella pertussis is the name given to the organism that causes whopping cough in humans, I think kennel cough is quite a serious illness in dogs , especially in tiny puppies, and can be fatal. Some kennels won't accept dogs if they haven't a current vaccination certificate for kennel cough.I must pin the v e t down on the IV injection, as I always get worried about the large dose shot down, or maybe up(!) my dogs' noses, and the article seems to suggest that the intravenous route is better for dogs that have previously had the nasal route... I must check out the Liz Jones thread! I think at the moment the engagement is off, again, but they are still an item. I really don't know why, seeing she is so mean about him in her column. I should think that any dog going to the vet would be at risk? I preferred the unidentified rock star to her latest one. I find him a bit passive aggressive. She would be better off giving men a miss from now on. I take it nobody is watching the poor cow Sam doing a sex show then? I saw a bit of the Bear Gryls show and i THINK they showed someone having diar ?dio? diasomething in full. Thankfully the subtitles were in the way. |

She is the one who has just had a baby isnt she? I mean the Sam who did the rudies with Marc in the last series even though he was always insulting her. the show is called sex box I think, but i gave it a miss. Two second Steven has put me off that for ever. ![]() Actually it would be interesting to see how many BB viewers watched it to see if some of us are justified in saying that we dont want to be watching sex on BB. The thing is, the type of people who will have sex with strangers for headlines tend to be very dull people who have no place on BB.

Hi Honey, those in BB are the same as those outside, if they want sex they have it, who with doesn't often matter, sex shouldn't be confused with love, people need sex the same as they need a meal, maybe not as often. Good Morning Eddy.:+)))))))))))))))) A chilly breeze really ruins the day, how long will it stay dry for though. ![]() ![]()

At the risk of sounding like someone interested in the sex life of others,
, does anyone know who the "married celebrity with children" is, who has been involved with suggesting a threesome with another couple?? I'm only really interested because the media have been banned from publishing his name.. Apparently it is OK to do this on Social media and in the USA..... **rolly eyed smilie"* |

I wouldnt mind so much if they dropped to the floor and started rutting like deer, because I could ignore that for a couple of seconds, but all the BB sex that I can think of is either a fake romance or a miserable one sided attraction.
Yes, me too. I dont know anybody who treats sex like dinner. Mind you, I havent been in any restaurants lately so perhaps they combine it these days? No. I havent heard anything about this, but isnt that a foursome? |

Hi Moots, nothing wrong with living a quiet life, but you can miss out on a lot of fun.
Hi Moots, whoever would have thought enquiring about the sex life of others would suggest you were interested in the sex life of others. Hi Honey, i don't really think they have fake romances, when 2 people are attracted to one another and living ina closed environment then it's obvious they want to get together, or be together all the time, the same as theyu would on the outside. You do live a sheltered life, like someone else we know. ha ha. I had a weird dream last night that I was using your washing machine, Hicky. Very odd because there is nothing wrong with mine and even though i have seen your lovely kitchen I dont even remember your washing machine.
