Well it looked like we were going to have a quiet Christmas with just me and Mr G having opted out of going to Iona with my daughter and her husband.

Then my son said he would come and stay with us… and his girlfriend.

Then Storm Barbara threatened and my daughter and her husband may not be able to get to Iona (with her brother and law and his wife and two friends) so they may all be coming to us. From two to 10. I haven’t got enough beds or seats around the dining table. Could be interesting.

Yes, they would need to be. Is the storm definite then? I saw a bit about it on the news but they just seemed to be blathering on and never got to the point.
I suppose if push comes to shove you can always get airbeds and sleeping bags from Argos?
We did this when i was a teenager and we had a huge family camping trip. My mother told us all to mark our beds and bags so they didnt get mixed up.
Every single one of us wrote "mine" ( obviously genetic )

Hi Gemo, wow, flexibility isn't the word, you need your place converted to a B&B overnight.
Maybe get som Blankets in and use cushions as pillows, they can sleep on the floor ok, they can always eat on the floor anyway and as long as you have enough food you are laughing, after all you don't have beds if you are camping in a tent.

I am still having to sleep on top of the duvet at night ( 3 chihuahuas snuggled up against me doesn't help), and I get almost overcome by the searing heat in the overheated shops.

Panic averted. The ferries may be disrupted on Friday, the day they were planning to travel, but four of them are going up on Thursday leaving just my daughter and a husband who are planning to travel Saturday and if they can’t get there it will be just them staying with us and no overcrowding problems.

If I replace single beds with doubles I would be able to sleep the extras but you wouldn’t be able to move round the rooms. I suppose people could squish together.

One air bed was promised, and I think a second one would have arrived but I don’t think my daughter had spoken to the other two couples before suggesting they descend on me.

My eye is sorted now, thank you, and I only need specs for reading. Some clouding may develop behind the lens but that just requires a quick laser fix. My sister-in-law needed the fix but my brother-in-law didn’t after cataract operations. I have a check up in January so I’ll no then but not aware of any problems.

Nope. And I have two cats and there furry blanky for paddling on top of me – Mr G sticks to his own area so doesn’t cause a problem.

Hi Moots, it is a bit warm for the time of year, but with the climates changing anything can happen from now on so don't get used to any conditions they are all temporary i think.
I was pretty warm in bed, and the heating came on at 6am just to make sure i stayed warm.

It has, the Thursday travellers are no longer travelling on Thursday because they’re worried about power cuts. I didn’t mention my worries to my daughter about fitting everyone when she first mentioned it but when I thought there was no chance of it happening I mentioned my concern so if travel plans are cancelled I think it may be just her and her husband that come to us and the other four will stay in Edinburgh.

Whatever happens I’ll make the most of it. I’ve been put on beta-blockers because of my high blood pressure and an unexpected side effect is that I have stopped panicking about things. Well… I panic a lot less

Hi Honey, Your life should be made into either a book or a film, thats why i don't have dislikes in food as i am never disappointed in a party, although some are better than others, i suppose it's all down to expense.
The moral of the story is, if you want a party Host it yourself then at least you know what you are eating.

We will be just having a quiet Christmas, its the first since Dad died in March, me and my brother are talking about taking our mum to visit his grave one day, probably next week, she has dementia and forgets he has gone, so hoping it will help.

I think its a matter of timing, regarding your mum. You cant very well spring it on her when she thinks he is alive, but it might help if you time it just right.
I dont think anyone can cope with the grief of losing someone over and over again,so my mother was told that my dad was "at the papershop" when she asked where he was.


I think I might have preferred grubs It was all perfectly normal food that most people like, such as parsnip, butternut squash, and orangey chocolate pudding. It was just very unfortunate that the entire menu was everything i hate.
My daughter had to fight to stop herself giggling, but I somehow managed to keep a smile on my face and finished the lot!
