Hello all

In a moment of madness I ordered some carpets last week, for the lounge, hall, stairs and landings. I am now frantically tidying up the relevant areas so that the man who is coming to do the measurements tomorrow will be able to have some space...

This site really apart from the rest.
I don't really like advertising but this site is well worth spending a couple of hours looking through the difference sections along the top.
This if the 10ft x 10ft Summer House i selected, with the extra floor and shelving all round.

The shed looks fantastic for the price.

Banana oil. Most hate it. And loose bandages, plenty to chew on including fresh bones, and no cleaning stuff on the carpets.

I have to put ointment on her eyelid every night, and I think she has now started rubbing this off.
I put a wandering apsotrophe in chihuahuas - just noticed it in time, phew!!”

Could it be that she actually craves and needs extra salt?

I suppose you could say that it's only like an actor taking on different roles, either because they enjoy what they're doing, or they need the cash! They have pay the bills just as we do, but it's rare than these offerings grip me - says the woman who watched weeks of CBB and enjoyed very little of it

I just popped in to check I hadn't missed your op Hicky - very good news that OH read the letter, you'd have been well pigged off arriving at the wrong place! Excellent price on that 'shed' I'd say - we've been looking at various sheds, workshops and chicken sheds and I'd say that's good value.

Sorry to hear about your canine worries Moots, the cohesive bandage but less tight, sounds the best option to me.

Who is torturing you Honey?? You haven't taken your CL to see Fifty Shades, have you?!”

No I think we will give that one a miss, By all accounts it is utter rubbish.

The bottom link to The Voice link doesn't do that any favours either.

I suppose chicken sheds come under a different category.

Hi Moots,
Will tidying up give him space? or do you mean shift everything off the floors.

I think you should get some hens. You certainly have the space for a few now and they pay for their keep in eggs. I expect Mrs (Saint) Hicky would get used to them as long as you keep them off the bed.

I would get some, but they need loads of room to roam in as they love grass, if they are trapped they end up in mud.
Mrs H doesn't like animals near her.

have you tried strong painkillers, Tens Machines, injections into the facet joints, physio, chiropractors, osteopaths ,The Pain Clinic etc etc?
They don't seem to be too keen on operating on backs these days. My mother (the iatrogenic mishap) had a lumbar fusion operation, and it was the most successful operation she had had, and she had quite a few... The neurosurgeon called it "canal stenosis"

the lounge is a sort of dark pinky red, and the rest is indigo, but it looked more like a tanzanite colour in the shop! I am so very ashamed of the state of my lounge carpet that I may even try to lift it myself, and just have floorboards for the time being.

The trouble with painkillers is that I am dancing on tables thinking I am Shirley Bassey and vomiting long before it dulls the pain so I don't bother.

But you have got a new carpet. Why would you have floorboards? You mean until the fitters arrive?

I have the most revolting floorboards ever. the varnish has mostly worn off and the effect is not enhanced by Nobby weeing on it We have had a giant tub of yacht varnish poised and ready to go for ever, but there never seems to be an occasion where us and the pet-people can be kept away long enough to do it so it gets worse and worse.

Morning

Hot'n'humid'sunny. Same old same old...

Nothing much happening. Almost half term. Middle child finishes school in april and is on study leave after that - where does the time go?

Currently ploughing my way through 20 odd years worth of photo negatives, scanner working full time, eyes are crossing. Can't decide whether it's lovely nostalgia or just depressing at the passing of time and youth.. :*(

I don't envy you scanning lots of negatives, but someone's got to do it. i suppose.

Hi Hicky
Can't believe that's another one leaving this summer I guess poring over old photos all day long isn't helping, as it seems like just the other day they were babies...
I don't mind doing it myself, it's quite good fun, I just get a bit of a sore back and shoulders after a while though, not to mention a headache as it's quite fiddly work mounting the negs for scanning. Loads still to go though...

I don't wonder you get a sore back, probably best to do the work in small doses, if you do too much in one day you will probably suffer the next.
And it's slow going as you probably ponder over each.

They don’t need loads of room – and they prefer dust, don’t like mud at all I think you are getting them muddled with pigs

How about bantams or quail.

If we didn’t have neighbours we would have peacocks – I love the noise they make but many don’t. Someone we knew kept them and they’re just as easy as hens.

If they are in a small enclosure they soon eat all what is available.

The ones i have seen eat grass, weeds and virtually anything that grows.

They need the grit which they turn into the shell for their eggs.

I remember watching the chickens next door before i moved and they would do anything to get out from their small grass-less dusty enclosure, in fact they often flew over the fence to roam around the back garden, but of course they would eat all that was growing.

If the hens are in a small space with a run the run should be periodically shifted to a different spot with fresh grass.

Ours get grit from whatever they find in the garden, probably snail shells as well as grit in the soil. If their shells are too soft and the chucks are enclosed dried and crushed eggshells can be added to their pellets.

It must be over twenty years that we’ve been keeping hens, I used to like it when we raised chickens but the eejit we sold our field to doesn’t like the noise of crowing cockerels. Our other neighbours liked them.

They don’t eat all that’s growing our roam free and don’t damage the plants, the only thing they like to take the heads off is dandelions.

I agree with that, assumed that if they had a large area to roam they wouldn't decimate it.
The area those that lived next door to me just scratched the ground until it was bare, they just love to dig & root.

Maybe it depends on the type of chicken.

We’ve had about 10 different breeds of chickens – Sussex, Bluebelle, Buff Orpington, Plymouth Rock, Wyandotte, Maran, Black Rock, Brahma, Scots Grey and Silkie. No plant damaging problem with any of them.
