Costco have Sony KDL42W829BBU on offer for £419 inc VAT and a five year guarantee from the 12th,it seems to get good reviews but is it being replaced or is there a drawback somewhere.Any advice ?

Models rarely last a year before been replaced, their will certainly be a new model out this year - but what does that matter?. If you keep waiting for the new model you'll never buy a TV - it's a good set and a decent price - check the details of the 'guarantee' though, as it's almost certainly a third party extended warranty, and not a manufacturers guarantee (as you would get from a Sony dealer).

Thanks Nigel, the guarantee is Costcos own I dont know how good it is as Ive never used it but as I understand they guarantee all electrical items and I imagine there would be info on web if it was poor. They also give you 90 days iirc no questions asked refund period.
Think Ill give it a go

Went to get Sony Monday but picked a 47" Toshiba Smart 3D for £80 more took it home and tried it didnt like it all, computer wasnt equipped for WiDi no Netflix app although my 24" Toshiba has, took it back and instant refund, got the 42" Sony which fits better anyway and has everything I need including a Netflix app on home screen.Only thing is I cant get access to computer from screen, not a biggy as I have a media player I can hook up.Can anyone advise me,if its not possible am thinking of a Roku stick with remote control bit dearer than Chromecast but dont have to use phone.Any suggestions much appreciated.Incidentally Costco customer services assured me 90 day trial is genuine and can just return it no questions asked ,amazing.
Incidentally checked the guarantee and CS said that if it cant be repaired within 14 days they replace TV with equal or better model, seems very reputable.

Doesn't your computer have an HDMI output socket on it?, modern TV's no longer include the antiquated VGA connector (which I'm still using at this very moment ).

It does but sadly its upstairs and TV is in lounge. The Toshiba in bedroom accesses the hard drive and can play any films music etc through the network cable.Have done same with Sony but no luck. Its not a disaster by any means. My son in laws LG can have the receiver from keyboard plugged into USB port and then be used as a computer
Thanks for the reply anyway,it would not be impossible to run a cable down if I had to

Doesn't that Sony model have WiFi? - simply connect it to your home WiFi and you should be able to access films/music shared on your computer - Windows Media Player is easily configured to do this.
