bought a JVC LT 32C345. telly

I like the way you can use the USB recording stick for taping telly programmes.

On my previous set,I could do the same and play the recording on my computer

but the JVC won't allow me to do the same.

Went into a large well known computer store, and the guy said that the recordings

won't play in any other device due to copyright!

Thoughts any one?

He's right, recordings are usually locked to the specific model and serial number that made it.

USB-recording DVB units, with no record protection can be bought for very little money. As little as a tenner on eBay if you don't need HD.

You can't use them with a TV, only a PC with suitable drivers installed.

Nope, I am talking about actual STB-type devices with recording facilities (and playback of just about any video format etc from USB or SD-card).

Having looked around the SCART-type ones have all but disappeared, but there are actually DVB-T2 ones on AliExpress for £11.54 which are based on an MStar chipset and will record HD video without encryption also.

The bloke was right. The telly probably uses DRM (digital rights management) to block any playing and transfer of the recorded material on third party devices.

Thanks for all your replys

The problem is I can't take the USB stick out, with my recordings on,
and show on my computer or any other device(i.e another telly)

So the solution is buy another telly that does have DRM (digital rights management) on it

Does any one know how to convert my recordings off the JVC to another format so I can show on my computer or another telly

DRM is included for copyright reasons - exactly to prevent the piracy you're wanting to do - you can only play it back on the exact model and serial number (not even an identical model) that recorded it.

It's unlikely you could find a UK set that doesn't have DRM?, although perhaps a cheap Chinese import might not? (the Chinese don't care about such things).

You will need to make sure it does what you want, any legitimate UK import is likely to have DRM.
