The normal solution is for them to sign up to some VPN service - which will make them appear as being IN the UK to the BBC servers.

I am sure someone will be able to recommend a good one shortly!

For short term, and in hotels, just sign up to a VPN. Due to the short distances between Europe and UK, a VPN is usually good enough, especially on mobile devices or laptops.

If you plan to move to other parts of Europe, and you want to watch on a proper TV, VPNs are not the best option. Smart DNS is usually better, as Smart DNS is far easier to configure directly on many devices and Smart TVs.

What do you want to watch the iPlayer on and is it short or long term? (i.e. holiday + laptop or living there and watch on Smart TV/Roku/Xbox One etc?)

The short answer is yes, not only is it possible, but it works really well.

www.unblock-us.com isn't free but offers a 7 day free trial then around £3 a month thereafter.
Works great for BBCiPlayer, but also other geo blocked sites too.

If you want a reliable connection, and are willing to pay $45 a year for it, sign up to StrongVPN. We've had it for years and in fact have recently upgraded to a VPN router so we never have to connect any device in our house (such as phones, tablets, Apple TV and Smart TV) They're all connected all the time so we can watch pretty much everything! Going to get a NOW TV box or something similar next
