Ok, now the album is starting to hit a chord with me.

Yeah. I was a bit disappointed at first, but having listened to it several times now certain songs are becoming serious earworms. Art Deco, The Blackest Day, Religion and Savatore are CLASSIC Lana.

Stick with it guys!

Lana's set is to start in around half an hour here.

OK. Lana Del Rey at Maida Vale then. I feel the need for big shouty letters:

THAT WAS IMMENSE!!!

Speaking as someone who's seen Lana live a few times I've often championed the virtues of seeing her live and that the songs often come across even better that way.

If there’s any doubters left about her live singing skills I hope they listen to that performance and finally change their minds. High By The Beach was alright, good stuff, but bloody hell she was on fire, no make that ON FIRE singing Terence Loves You and Honeymoon.

TLY was just so elegant & classy mouth watering vocals + Honeymoon was just Lana at her dark epic best. I like happy things in life too but god I love the darkness that Lana can summon up. It’s her trademark and it’s so powerful. That is why I will always defend her for doing slow dark songs cause I know she can unleash that kind of quality when she sings them.

Indeed I hope people that aren't keen on these songs listen to them and just feel the quality & raw power of the tunes.

Good interview comments from Lana and yes I think that went really well. Fab when Huw let the band show off too, they are great musicians.

Loved the listener comment of "can you get her to play every week?" I don't think anybody was disagreeing with that after that performance.

Thanks for the link, I ended up not being able to catch it live.

I really enjoyed the interview and the little snippets of the band playing individually. I love what Blake's guitar adds to her songs - it's so beautifully melodic but it can also bring a bit of a harder edge in the live performances. Lana herself seems really relaxed and happy with the record. As for the performance itself, she's become very vocally assured. I happened to throw on Born To Die in the car today and it's so clear that she's a much better singer now than she was then.

I felt that she was a bit quiet on High By The Beach (trying to capture that aloofness) but Honeymoon was very good and Terrence Loves You was the absolute standout. I felt they missed the strings and the sax a little respectively but it was good to hear a nice, minimalist interpretation of those tracks. It's a pity MTV Stripped isn't really a thing any more because a Lana version of those albums would be really something.

Lana's least 'immediate' but imo arguably her best album yet. Definitely needs several listens before it hits home imo. Some real standout tracks, including The Blackest Day, Religion, Art Deco (allegedly about Ms Banks but I'm not convinced), 24, Terence Loves You and the lovely cover of Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood.

That live session was just heavenly. Genuinely believe both TLY and HM were better live than the studio versions. I would imagine the people who ridiculed her SNL performance woud be amazed if they listened to this session.

THE most interesting/talented artist in music right now...

Wasn't baiting. I prefer Del Rey to most pop acts, but it's a hell of a bold statement to call her both the most 'interesting AND talented' given all the stuff that's happening outside of Radio 1.

Surely '24' is the song she wrote for 'Spectre'? There's even a bit of John Barry-esque guitar in there. Then lost out to Sam bloody Smith! Shocking lol. The Bond gig will be hers one day, it's nailed on.

I thought Shades Of Cool gave off that vibe too. Sam Smith is such a shit choice.

Picking an artist who is very, very similar I'd argue Lykke Li is a more interesting. The parallels are quite striking though - both balance on the edge of being chart pop and alternative, both have 3 albums and lots of older material, both are 30 and both use the co-writer and quite often the same ones (Rick Nowells is heavy used by both).

Sam Smith isn't a shit choice, he is just a predictable one. Everyone knew Adele would do it back in 2012 and everyone knew Sam would do it this time around. If there had been a bond film back in 2013, Emeli sande would of done it.

I think his voice is irritating, his songs are deathly dull and his entire act is bland so I'm happy enough to call him a shit choice.

I thought exactly the same thing. There's also some Barry brass! To be fair it's probably not immediate enough to be a proper Bond song. Still good though.

What I always say to people who love going around boasting of brilliant undiscovered outside of the mainstream acts that we are all missing out on cause we (the plebs) aren’t as clever as they are: Please do puts some links to these artists amazing material. Please stun us and wow us.

Oddly, when I throw down the gauntlet to do so, the people that spout these lines never raise to the challenge. I wonder why? Could it be that's because even they realise these incredible acts aren't that amazing? Surely not?

Not wishing to be offensive but Lykke Li doesn’t come across as a Del Rey beater either.

FMKK: Totally agree with that, (well no comment on Smith! wouldn't want to offend his fans) especially about it being a shame MTV don’t do those stripped/unplugged type shows anymore (do they actually do any music TV these days, it seems to be all reality shows about the Kardashians or whatever now)? Lana would have been awesome on a programme like that.

I’ve always had a lot of respect for Blake, he really brings another dimension to the band and it’s a great story of how Lana recruited him years ago and they’ve stayed together since. I hope he always stays on as Lana’s lead guitarist as they have such a great understanding. Would be good to hear them do more songs together on future albums.

As for Lana and Bond, well we’ve said it many times that she would be the perfect fit and it’s dumbfounding all those involved with Bond don’t seem to see it. Million Dollar Man, Shades of Cool, 24 all have the Bond vibe nailed down perfectly. But I’ve started revise that opinion that she's made the Bondesque sound one of her own. If one of her songs sounds that way I just view it as one of her trademark sounds and if Bond wants to come knocking that’s their call.

Lana might be better off out of it as the last couple of Bond songs are very Bond by numbers-seems to be what the producers want now rather than fresh songwriting on the formula. I still feel sorry for Adele getting lumbered with Skyfall. From the snippet released so far Sam Smith's song sounds like more of the same; all orchestral bombast and no hook.

But the thing is this album doesn't just sound slow and plodding compared to other artists, it sounds slow and plodding compared to Lana's previous work as well. I know that slow tempo tracks have always been part of her music, but at least in the past there have been more up tempo tracks to add a bit of variety to her albums. To me a lot of the album just sounds as if she is trying to parody her own musical style.

I wasn't aware Lykke Li wasn't known outside of the mainstream, as I tend to have little or no interest of what's happening in that regard. Unfortuantly you have been offensive and a bit of a dick with those first two paragraphs you've wrote, whether you wished it or not.

As I said Lykke and Lana have a hell of a lot in common - Lykke's even got to write and record a song with David Lynch. If you enjoy one artist you'll probably find a lot to like in the other.

Exactly. Absolutely no one on the thread has called for her to do chart dance tracks with David Guetta or whatever. Listening to Born To Die earlier showed how much a few changes in tempo and ambiance through the album makes for a much more interesting listen. I think every song on Honeymoon is good (bar maybe two I don't like) but they just don't go together well because there's too much of the same type.

On a positive note, I'm really liking Religion. As a big fan of both Lana and Bob Dylan, I love the Lay Lady Lay reference and the little pedal steel sounding bit coming in.

I like Lykke Li too

"Dance Dance Dance", "Little Bit", "Get Some", "Possibility" and "Breaking It Up" are some of my favourite tracks by her.

Honeymoon is an amazing album. After the first listen I was disappointed, after a few I just fell in love! It was the same with Ultraviolence (well even slower tbh, it took me a very long time to love it as a whole). I don't quite understand the people saying this is 'slow', its nowhere near as slow as UV.

My favourite songs from Honeymoon as of now are Terrence Loves You, Freak, Art Deco, Religion and Salvatore! But the whole album is very good. I'd give it 8/10!

Thank-you Sophie, totally agree with that, good summary of the album, great selection of fave tracks and it’s good to see you liked it. I personally think it’s the most cinematic and jazzy of Lana’s albums and there are certainly songs on here that are “poppy” enough to work as singles too. Religion seems to coming quite a fan favourite, possibly the happiest song Lana has ever done.

Agree with those comments of Makson’s about her being robbed of No.1 album status (Drake and Dave Gilmour suddenly dropping albums out of nowhere to deny her-the swines)! Well depends on whether Interscope and Lana want to keep pushing the album but with the right promotion it could stay in the charts and have a good run. We’ll see.

Her Music To Watch Boys To video with Lana and friends swimming about like Mermaids shouldn’t do the promotion any harm. Very beautiful and stylishly filmed, I like it a lot:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kYsxoWfjCg

And triple robbed… I’m going back to the Bond song now …god that Sam Smith tune…did they just take a left over track from his album that wasn’t good enough to make the cut and stick some Bond orchestra on the start? “It only took me 20 minutes to write it” gloated Smith. Sounds like it did… I’d like to think Lana will be in pole position for the next film but they’ll probably be another overhyped Brit School graduate doing the rounds by then. C'est la vie.

And finally I will just compliment Soupietwist: Well just for clarification it wasn’t a personal stab at you, it just I’ve lost count of the amount of times people on Digital Spy and over website forums play the music snob card of my obscure internet hipster faves are better than yours game. It was more a dig at them in general. Hence why I’ve started asking people making comments to back them up! Plus who knows it may get more people interested in the artists in question.
