Because they're better than some of the stuff that she's actually released? Because it sounds different when she's in danger of becoming one-note? Because everyone can already hear them anyway?

She might not think they're better, and just because everyone can hear them illegally it doesn't mean Lana has to do anything with the songs either way.

I don't think she's in danger of becoming one note at all. I, personally, can hear a clear progession from Born to Die to the Honeymoon tracks released so far. She does have a style she likes to stick to but that still doesn't mean she's a one note artist by any means.

Love the album cover and love that the number on the bus can be phoned to give Lana's starline tours:

Personally I'm also loving the songs revealed so far, I can see why she used the phrase "Future Retro" to decribe the albums sound. Real old school Hollywood and jazz sound coming through.

Just add to that: Something else I think is pretty cool is Lana's collaboration with The Weeknd on his track Prisoners. I will confess out of current pop acts his song Earned It struck a chord with me, so its a pleasant surprise to see them working together:

Plus slight correction from something I misquoted on the other board on here, Terrence Loves You is Lana's fave song on the album. I think that reflects that she's always most at home with jazz-its where her roots are.

So no Mark Ronson on the album then. Thoughts?

Ah well it doesn't surprise me to be honest, glad he's cleared that one up. From what's been released so far it seemed a bit odd there was no "Lana & Mark Ronson" in big highlighted letters so I was thinking it must have fallen through. Seems Rick Nowels is producing the whole album then. As Ronson himself has said he shouldn't have mentioned it to the press before anything was set in stone.

I was semi excited at the possibility of them working together, love him or hate him Ronson does seem to get his name on hit records, I wasn’t against a bit of a Winehouse tribute vibe. That said I remember once watching some program that lifted the lid on major label song writing on BBC2. One of the episodes featured him working with so aspiring singer. What was his incredible, talented, genius trick to making hit records? Erm, listening to other hit records in the style they were aiming for and then sort of making a melody that was similar but with note or 2 changed...

I'm not surprised him and Bruno Mars have got a number of plagiarism lawsuits against them for Uptown Funk, so maybe Lana's better off without him.

Just add to that: As is often the case with anything Lana does wonder if they'll be a load of leaked demos from the session they did on the web soon?

Makes me wonder if the label tried to 'impose' Ronson onto the album like they tried to get Epworth involved with UV...

I think you've hit the nail on the head there! It didn't seem like a natural pairing of minds and if they did force it I think it explains why it didn't work out.

When it was announced I don't think it necessarily saw everybody in Lana's fanbase jumping up and down with excitement either-there were some pretty strong negative comments on Digital Spy alone.

I really respect how with UV and now this album she's stuck to her guns and made the album she wants to make.

Noooo.....I wanted Mark to create Lana's "Back To Black" album

I can't say i am bothered. None of Mark Ronson's productions has ever been up to scratch since Back to Black. The whole uptown funk era is pretty much a cut and paste of other people's work. Just a one trick pony. I am sure their songs will leak at some point.

In fairness, Back To Black was basically influenced by Amy's love of soul, R&B, 60s girl groups etc. so it's not really like he was doing much cutting edge production back then. They were trying to recreate what had gone before with the modern twist coming from her writing and personality rather than the production, I think.

A similar approach mightn't have been too ban for Lana when I think about it actually.

Two weeks until we marry Lana and go on our honeymoon

Heard Terrence Loves You for the first time just there. Obviously need to hear it again but there doesn't seem to be any semblance of structure to the song.

Just two weeks-can't wait! Looking through the press and fansites looks like she's going to be appearing on scores of magazine covers across the world so hopefully this album will have better promotion than UV did.

V magazine interview (done by James Franco, huh, who else?) looks good and the photoshoot is stunning:
http://www.vmagazine.com/site/conten...ost-likely#!/1

Like how in the interview she's cleared up she was never so much anti-feminist but merely more interested in science. Good to see she's picking her choice of words better so she can't get stupidly misquoted by the press.

And on Terence Loves You, really like it good song IMO. Would never force you to agree with that but c'mon that's a bit strong saying there's no semblance of structure to the song.

I love Lana's jazz stylings, she does it in the right way, like how she's bringing that sound back. She's not turned into a pretentious act off The Fast Shows Jazz Club (niiiiice) yet:

(Love the Jamiroquai piss take at the end of that video ).

We all have different tastes so no worries FMKK. What struck me listening to the "sampler" is how the album has definitely got its own sound and all the tracks revealed so far complement one another so well. We've said many times that Lana is an album artist and to my mind its sounding excellent as a whole.

Also: That V magazine interview done by James Franco is awesome. Would highly recommend reading it-best interview in some time. You get the feeling that when Lana does interviews many publications often just dump most of what she says and just print the most shocking or sensational quote- see The Guardian interview when UV was released as case of point.

What’s brilliant about the Franco interview is there’s none of that. He's just talking to her, good questions that bring through her thoughts on various topics and they have quite a deep conversation. You get a really great sense of her personality for a change.

He's writing a book about her isn't he? I thought that might have been a self-indulgent project too far on his part, but after reading this interview I'm actually interested in the book now.

MTWBT is amazing. Is that panpipes I hear during the verses?
DRAGON LANCE
09-09-2015
Lovely song isn't it, gorgeous stuff. You know what I hadn't even considered panpipes, good observation.

Somebody leaked the production credits (check the fan sites for info) it says flute, clarinet's etc, all in there the mix to a very smooth effect.

The same production credit leak also says Lana is credited (along with Rick Nowels and Kieron Menzies) as the albums producer as well as songwriter. Well she knows what she wants it to sound like so why shouldn't she be in the directors chair eh? If thats correct it further goes to show she didn't need Mark Ronson at all!

Ah thanks, it is likely a flute so that I'm hearing

Just heard Music To Watch Boys To this morning. I think that was a flute. I liked the song a good bit, so it's my second favourite from what I've heard from the album so far. I'm sure I'll grow to like the other songs more as I listen to them more. My reservation is that, like with Ultraviolence, all the songs on the album will be at the same tempo and it'll kinda drag when listening in full.

Frustrating artist.

Born To Die/Paradise had some brilliant moments, but equally had some absolute dross.

UV was a much better album to listen too in that it was balanced, but aside from Brooklyn Baby and Old Money nothing really stood out but there is nothing truly bad on it either.

Then we get these previews - Beach & Terrence do nothing for me and Honeymoon felt like an average UV song (so fairly forgettable). So I'm thinking of skipping this album - then I hear the Watch Boys sample and it sounds great....Grrrr!

I'd love to see Lana do a laidback Americana album, as Ride is still my favourite track of hers.

Ride is my favourite track of hers too and I would like her to go down that route a little more.

Whaaaaaa?!
The only true "dross" from BTD was Dark Paradise.....probably the worst song Lana has ever recorded.
