I can't remember what Heat sounds like but seem to remember it being pretty reasonable at 80k, quite compressed with a fair bit of bass. On the portable in the office it's hard to differentiate massively, but when I'm in the car next I'll compare.

Radio X 80k mono to me sounds way, way worse than Jack.

Does anyone know when the Bradford/Huddersfield local DAB will start transmitting from Idle/Wrose Hill to serve Shipley, North Bradford. Thanks

Not sure if this is build out related but.

Today when in Birmingham, standing outside Queen Elizabeth Hospital, I did a quick DAB scan on my little radio.

I managed to pull in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire muxes. Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire only came in when the wind blew(!) for some reason.

Also when passing the Litchfield transmitter on the M6 Toll, I could pull in Leicestershire with Derbyshire 100% of course.

Gloucestershire was also gettable in parts of Birmingham.

This is all in addition to what I normally get which is all the usuals plus Wocestershire and Coventry.

Is it normal for wind to influence reception? Thanks

Never heard of that but RF is a dark art. I've known of days when I have walked up a hill or travelled on a bus and had a solid signal one day and nothing at all the next on the pocket radio I use.

Wind doesn't influence reception (unless your rooftop antenna is moving round a fair bit). But, the troposphere does - and in summer weather conditions, that might be the interesting thing.

Tropospheric sporadic E is layers of different air at different temeratures so could be affected by winds in the troposhere. The wiki says it mostly affects below 108 Mhz but DAB and UHF TV can be affected giving out of area reception, but the interference created is less.

Guess the current phrase step1 BBC and D1 national DAB and local DAB rolllout is almost complete.
Some sites (like Mid Wales) are delayed to step 2 waiting for 50% digital listening when a DSO date can be announced?

Interestingly the tech parameters are still showing Crabwood Farm as 0.7 ERP. I thought this has already been upgraded. My improved reception near Andover must be due to the increase in power at Chillerton or Toot Hill I suppose. I wonder why the delay on Crabwood?

The TXParms doesn't seem to be 100% accurate (e.g. listing a transmitter broadcasting Stoke and Stafford to Aberdeen!) or reflecting current changes (e.g. some of Mux Co's new sites in North Wales) - so it may well have changed and just not updated (it could also be still considered under test so might not be "live" yet).

I am pretty sure turners hill has had its power increases for both CE birmingham & Wolves Shrop.

I wouldn't be surprised if the other shrop transmitters are on. Reception has improved considerably since the start of september.

What's left in the current build-out programme between now and the end of the year?

The extra transmitters I'm aware of that are still due are:

CE Birmingham - Headless Cross
Muxco Lincolnshire - High Hunsley
Muxco Suffolk - Felixtowe

Has Waltham been added to Leicester multiplex yet?

Has the Muxco Hereford and Worcester - Kidderminster transmitter gone live yet?

I'm slightly outside the area, but would have thought I'd have noticed if it had.

I presume that is 10D for NE Wales W Chesh, and not North West Wales

Also are there any more for 12D North West Wales? Noticed a few more on and some missing on the spreadsheet.

BTW the errors mentioned here have now been rectified.

Not yet... I believe the Wrekin has been increased as you can pick up NOW until Wrexham on the A5 which is better.

However not all of the fill in transmitters have gone on yet, i was at the Oswestry area Tx site at selattyn yesterday, the cabin is now in place complete with GPS beacons, but no aerials on the transmitter as yet, but i guess it won't be far off!

I don't think so - the signal in Nottingham is however slightly improved - but not enough to indicate Waltham is in use (Waltham TV/Smooth Radio come in on a wet piece of string unlike Copt Oak).

Frequency finder suggests some of the additional Cornwall sites have started.
One being NHT which if Plymouth MuX is to go by should go some way especially along the south coast.

I was wondering of by chance a D2 site would be turned on

We can't get Copt Oak here in Oakham

Something between 0 and 0% chance of that, I'd say!
