RAN, A radio access network...

Google is only so helpful! Could any of you wonderful people try and explain to me what a RAN is?

I've looked online and it's a bit waffley really.. I don't mind the description being technical, but I just don't get what a RAN actually IS ? The mast? The 'backhaul'? I don't know

Does anyone have a clearer explanation?

Thanks very much if you do

Exactly as you have put

Its the radio access network.. Its the equipment at the outer edges of the network that provides the radio signal.

The backhaul is the network that connects the Ran to the core

The core is the brains of the network

Google does not explain anything. It merely shows you others explanations.

It's exactly as sethpet put it.
You are using the RAN when you use your mobile for either voice, SMS or data.
You are Accessing Radio on a Network.
No wait, that's an ARN......
I'll get me coat.....

No. I'm just in a gif mood today. Dunno why haha.

Here is a gif that represents the BT takeover of EE, when we thought they were originally going for O2.

The US also had a mobile network called Jump which was part of Leap. If Sprint had bought them surely a combination of Sprint, Leap and Jump would have run the best ran?
