Here's a look at how Geordie Show has been rating since series 3 onwards:

Series 3: 791k (inc +1: 888k)
Series 4: 943k (inc +1: 994k)
Series 5: 810k (inc +1: 908k)
Series 6: 924k (inc +1: 1.04m)
Series 7: 939k (inc +1: 1.04m)
Series 8: 994k (inc +1: 1.08m)
Series 9: 863k (inc +1: 936k)

*I currently don't have the official ratings for series 1 & 2. I need to go back through BARB and get them.

As you can see, the trajectory until series 8 was upwards (with the exception of series 5 which saw a slight decrease) - until the latest series which aired towards the end of 2014. This series average fell below 1m becoming the lowest rating series since series 5. Odd considering the show went a bit off the boil until the latest series which was IMO the best series for a few years. Still solid ratings but the pattern for series 9 was very erratic indeed with one episode as high as 1.12m compared to a low of just 798k the week after.

Liverpool and Arsenal haven't played yet so we can't really count them. And United were unconvincing to say the least last night, but will probably get the job done at Old Trafford.

It's not a great position to be in at this stage of the tournament from a ratings perspective.

Maybe so but it reduces the possibility of big time potential match ups for later on. The BBC have had some decent figures so far but this is a bad day. One particular result today is extraordinary.

The FA cup is probally rigged anyway with Betting Scandals to cause today's results.

Well exactly, so a bit early to be saying it's a terrible outcome for the Beeb IMO. My point is that of the three biggest ratings pullers (arguably), all three remain in at this point.

I don't pretend to know much about football but if, say, Man Utd ended up against a minnow in the final, would that necessarily rate any lower than a giant v giant match-up?

I like shocks and upsets. The same teams win the cup. It's good to see others have a chance every so often.

Ian Hyland on Stars In Their Eyes. Too little too late?

"@HylandIan: If tomorrow's episode of Stars In Their Eyes had been the first one Harry Hill's revamp might not have bombed so badly.
Too late now?"

"@HylandIan: I think tomorrow's Stars In Their Eyes might have been recorded after the bad reviews.
Less wacky comedy and three of the acts are good."

My point was that today's results couldn't have gone much worse, and that is fair to say.

Put it this way, ITV won't be too gutted to be missing out the way things are shaping up.

It would still have strong angles of interest, but ideally from round 5 you would want at least one big match up and an interesting big/small tie-so there are big ratings possibilities all the way through to the final. That is drastically reduced today.

When big teams go out ratings for later rounds suffer. It would be better for broadcasters if upsets happened in later rounds. It's like Champions League matches with no British teams. Ratings dip.

That was fortunate that they hadn't recorded many and have been able to make changes in response to viewer feedback.

Its goose may already be cooked though. I don't see why viewers would give it another chance.

You get the feeling that ship has sailed. People have it a chance for two weeks. I can't see them returning. What would the Stars In Their Eyes trailers say? "Please watch us again! We're good now!"

I think you should go to the police with the hard evidence that you have for that statement.

Spoiler
I think it's more (1) the big clubs are not interested (2) the big clubs think there good but are not, Evidence, how our teams perform in the World Cup.

Thanks Ronant.

A good rating for Death In Paradise. Do you have anymore from Wednesday or Thursday that stick out?

I think people have made their minds up. If they stopped watching they won't return now.

It really was. It was Harry pretending to be Tom Jones and wiggling his bum. It wasn't funny and I were Harry i'd have cringed so much at that.

It's not the Stars In their Eyes that I remember.

Spoiler
I think it's a case of the big sides taking the smaller teams for granted. At 2-0 Chelsea probably took their foot off the peddle and were punished; Manchester City have been a bit hit and miss this season and Tottenham - admittedly along with Chelsea and Liverpool - had a midweek game whereas their opponents had a break.

There's a fantastic rating on the cards for Match of the Day tonight. As long as Liverpool (drawing 0-0 with Bolton at half time), Manchester United and Arsenal get through it won't be too bad for either BBC or BT. If two of those are drawn together in the fifth round though...

Oh that might be the introduction; I've always found those tongue in cheek (er, no pun intended) and bearable. It's what happens after that that's the problem.

A lot of ITV shows seem to improve as a series goes on but by then it's too late. You'd think the best thing would be to start strongly to begin with.

Worldwide presumably require Who to be over by the middle of November so they can put the dvd/blu of it out for Christmas.
