Well yes, it was clearly unpleasant. I don't think it's news to anyone that occasionally the line can be crossed in that environment. The important thing for me as a Big Brother fan is that on those occasions it is dealt with swiftly and appropriately. The jury is very much out on whether or not they did so, certainly in the case of Ken anyway.

Sadly, Big Brother as an entertainment programme can be defined by these instances. Those who invest heavily in it know that it's not what it's about. But it's damaging, absolutely, because it's this sort of thing that's plasted all over the papers before anything else.

I do consider it strange that as someone who has clearly moved on from Big Brother, having read up on the nature of tonight's episode, and I don't think it could have been made much clearer beforehand that it would contain unpleasant footage, you decided to tune in anyway basically so you could voice your disapproval.

Haven't see Big Brother tonight but if people are acting as they do in real life, rather than watering it down for the cameras to save their 'public image', surely that's just going along with the original premise of the show? It was "throw a load of people in a house and see how they cope", not "throw a load of arseholes in a house and watch them act completely differently to how they do in real life just in case what they are really like might offend people". Let's not forget that the series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2007 caused diplomatic tension and led to effigies of someone being burnt as far away as India for heavens sake. Yet it's still here rolling on after that, and I struggle to believe that tonight's 'drama' was any more offensive than that.

In other news, as well as Nick Hewer leaving the main show, Dara O Braian has now quit 'The Apprentice: You're Hired'. It'll be a very different series next time - it seems ironic that they're freshening the show up after the best series in years, rather than after the several 'meh' series' which preceded it, but never mind.

Gosh. You don't really think I'm sad enough to change my opinion on a show because it moved channels, do you? Maybe you should take a moment to consider how daft that is! Like a lot of members, I discovered Digital Spy through Big Brother.

A bit like The X Factor having a refresh after it's most successful series - though Nick and Dara aren't as key to the programme as Simon, Cheryl and Dannii were at the time.

Because as said I still watch launches usually and so a couple of days after that, seeing this news I was curious - certainly I was doing nothing else, 3 of us in fact, so we thought why not, let's tune in and was open minded about it.

I don't mind controversial or unpleasant footage and yes I knew it was coming - this particular one (which I wouldn't know until after watching ) happened to leave a really really bad taste. Maybe it's because so many housemates are coming across as unlikeable. Maybe it's a reflection on me. Who knows. I do think it was terribly handled though.

But it shouldn't bother you - clearly I tuned in and that's what you want for your channel so regardless of my or anyone elses opinion it will no doubt boost things.

Let's hope they don't plump for Gary Barlow as either's replacement eh

That is a point but it does feel the audience it's aiming at would be watching The Voice.

It think a lot of my comments earlier were out of shock at what Stars in Their Eyes had become. But did I find it passable entertainment? Looking back, in a 'so bad it's good' way, probably... yes.

Ridiculous to suggest a few chavs that turn up on eviction nights are representative of the audience as a whole, and grossly misleading as well.

The reputable Mediaweek revealed earlier this week that the upmarket supermarket Waitrose was one of the big spenders with the show last year - not so this year due to the Omnicom pullout, a separate issue altogether - but would be very interested to read why you think this was the case if you believe the above to be true? Why do you consider yourself better informed than experts in the industry?

See I don't think so at all. I think it's setting out to appeal to viewers who see through the talent shows and avoid them like the plague, not people who watch them. It's not as extreme as the Peter Kay show which did a similar thing, so perhaps doesn't work quite as well as that, but on Saturday nights it was always going to be a bit watered down compared to that.

We said more or less the same thing.

Her and Perez were the ones we expected to dislike the most. How wrong were we !

On reflection, the mods' decision to start a new part to the thread this weekend looks like one made with excellent foresight, dread to think how many pages we'll get through tomorrow morning

There is much vile Television out there. BB/CBB is one such example. The very fact it is relatively popular baffles me. But vile is a strong word because that is just one opinion. Those who enjoy it are probably watching it for a bit of escapism, but I am confused as to why they think it's good, in exactly the same way I get confused when people tune into IACGMOOH each Autumn.

A few predictions...

Stars In Their Eyes: 4.8m (under 4m next Saturday)
The Voice UK: 7.6m
Celebrity Big Brother: 2.0m

Bit mystified by the reports on this thread earlier today that Thunderbirds are Go is maybe just to be on daytime TV?

That makes no sense of the active ad campaign with the teaser trailers of a space station and 'calling international rescue' message that are airing on primetime ITV already - seemingly weeks ahead of the programme airing?

These appear designed to hook people into watching who knew the show years ago as I doubt they would make any real sense/impact on modern children in their current format as they do not even seem to be promoting a children's show.

So why would there be such a prolonged ad campaign if ITV are planning to dump the show almost out of sight?

I would have thought this venture had early evening weekend written all over it.

Though with a production company called Pukeko perhaps it was tempting fate on its actual quality.

They do not have anything to do with Stars in their eyes by any chance?

Slightly cynical about but ken would have been kicked out if not up for eviction on tuesday,this way c5 make money from people voting to have him evicted.

I wonder whether it's that or more, at this stage, losing one Housemate to a forced eviction is unfortunate. Losing two looks like poor research/planning.

Doubt it. Not much revenue made from the voting nowadays. And in any case it's vote to save this series and two other housemates are up.

Having watched tonight's episode of The Voice, I think some of you may be underestimating the impact of Rita Ora on the panel. She came across very well tonight. She is very current and more relevant than Kylie. She was funny, entertaining and caring (loved the note she wrote for the Scottish boy). I personally think Tom Jones is the one who needs to be replaced but I'll let that go. Will.i.am is brilliant as always.

It was a pretty good first show overall. The second half in particular flew by. I really want to be hooked in all the way through the series this year, and Rita Ora's presence may just do that. She can bring in younger viewers to the show in a way that Kylie couldn't.
