Monday 19th January 2015 - Consolidated Ratings
Coronation Street (19:30) - 9.72m (9.59m excl. +1)
Coronation Street (20:30) - 9.67m (9.50m excl. +1)
Broadchurch - 8.71m (7.89m excl. +1)
Silent Witness - 8.46m
That's a shame the Corrie didn't hit 10 million. Guess most viewers wanted to watch it on the day. Broadchurch has dropped considerably since S2E1 hasn't it?

Thanks DMN.

Broadchurch had roughly the same timeshift but the lower overnight meant the consolidated rating was down. When the overnight rating is down so is the consolidated.

Broadchurch just doesn't work for a second series.

One decent night does not hide the fact that the ITV network is in a bit of a mess right now. I've been thinking about some ideas to reshape the week...

...Any thoughts?
I've snipped it to save space, but I don't think any of your idea are bad. It all seems sensible to me.

A half-hour civilian Family Fortunes wouldn't be a bad idea for Tuesdays at 7.30pm. It performed decently against a very strong Casualty in the 1990s. They don't even need to get Schofield to do it, either. They could keep him on the celeb version, but find someone else for this.

Quiz shows were almost exclusively half-hour jobbies when I was young. I can't be doing with them being dragged out to 45, 50, 60 or even 75 minutes. Overkill!

I thought Corrie would have passed 10m, surprised by that. Still a good rating. With Broadchurch the timeshift is roughly 3m each week but the lower overnight hurt them.

Silent Witness was 5.87m on the Monday Neil, so I make its increase 2.59m.

It's working enough to get these ratings but they should stop with series 2.

Silent Witness was 5.87m on the Monday Neil, so I make its increase 2.59m.
You're quite right, sorry. Their pure timeshifts were probably very close indeed.

Grrrrr...

You'd think if they have to push it out of slot for some regional guff they'd at least move the displaced programme to a respectable slot. It's like how HIGNFY gets shown in NI, to my knowledge, at 11.20/11.50 on Fridays and this is one of the BBC's most enduring and respected shows!
This is why I'm looking forward to BBC One+1.

One of my favourite BBC One Wales displacements was a 1994 screening of Open All Hours which they moved "to a later date"... in 2004.

We should have known they couldn't keep their strong scheduling up for long, BBC One are putting New Tricks repeats on Mondays and The Gift on Tuesdays. The Gift sounds like it might do well(ish) but to waste your best drama slot on it is ridiculous when you are airing repeats on the Monday. Young War Widows replaces Paul O'Grady's Animal Orphans on the Tuesday.

The New Tricks repeat would make more sense if they were planning an FA Cup match for the following Monday, but I doubt they would disrupt EastEnders in its anniversary week.

Comic Relief Bake Off starts Wednesday 11th February at 8pm.
Typical. A strong January at 9pm, then along comes February and the wheels fall off.

For it's remaining four episodes it has as BBC One competition:
Silent Witness
New Tricks (repeat)
Preston or Sheff Utd v Cambridge or Man Utd (which explains why they're airing New Tricks on 9th February)

And then... any idea? BBC One has enough drama to air one on Monday's but I wonder if they'll wait for Broadchurch to finish first. There could be a Monday night quarter final tie in the FA Cup on 9th March but I hazard a guess BT will take that and the semi-finals will be played on Saturday and Sunday.

Interesting times. Losing the PL highlights would be a big blow to the BBC but it would mean they save at least 170 million over the contract length which would presumably allow a spend elsewhere. Id love to be a fly on the wall when the bid amounts for these various contracts are discussed.
It's fascinating. It would be embarrassing to lose the Premier League highlights, but would it be a good thing for the rest of BBC Sport?

And The Gift looks like a Long Lost Family knock off.

The Game is meant to start late February/early March, according to Toby Whithouse, so that could go on Monday, it's 6 episodes so would end the week before Easter Monday, allowing something else to launch then (Jonathan Strange?) The Met is also an option, but it depends on whether they'd want to start something against the last episode of Broadchurch or not.

SW very consistent. A good 600k clear of BC in the unenhanched battle.

So BC's trajectory goes something like 10.3m >> 9.xx m?? >> 7.9m

Not what they hoped for!

Yeah, a variation on a theme. Very similar to Real Lives Reunited in daytime, too.

Reviews of The Game have been positive but one said it might not be a big hit for BBC1.

Yep...

Monday 16th February 2015

Preston North End or Sheffield United v Cambridge United or Manchester United

Normally I don't mind Football taking over EastEnders but for 1 week only I just wanted EastEnders to air across the week without being moved about. It's the 30th week for FFS and I would expect ratings for EastEnders LIVE week to well out rate the football.

It actually sounds like a hugely successful Dutch TV programme where viewers can ask to be reunited with people from their past not necessarily because they liked them but to spell out a few home truths. The big question is how on earth does Matt Baker find the time to do TOS four days a week and Countryfile as well as this ?

I saw one of those on iPlayer last year about the Bradford Football Club stadium fire. Was very good. The Gift might be a hit.

Did he film it during The One Show breaks? Looks like The Gift will have mostly factual opposition. That will work in its favour.
