It always used to be the case that the cricket authorities always said that they couldn't give any live content to Sky because Sky wanted it all exclusive or not at all, but then they did the F1 deal where only half of it is exclusive, and it seems to do alright for them. I think Sky might be a little disingenuous there because it's hardly likely they'd abandon all cricket coverage if they gave a test to the Beeb.
Obviously all sports are different and football can work across pay TV and free TV because there's loads of it in lots of competitions, and it's also a sport that works well in highlights, which is not always the case with other sports.

No he wasn't, what Vassos Alexander was arguing is that participation in golf is down compared to cycling, because cycling has increased massively over recent years and it's cheaper to buy a bike and ride it than it is to buy golf clubs and join a golf club. That is a general point which has nothing to do with the BBC, especially given Vassos Alexander also works for BT and Chris Evans is a massive golf fan.
