BIB Does that not highlight how much the lead in helps the teatime quizzes? If ART was getting sub 1m at 4.30pm, would Pointless be over 4m, even 3.5m? No. Again a good schedule from the BBC aids each programme into gaining strong audiences.
While ITV go for niche factual that pulls in sub 3m, BBC1 goes for the broader factual that has that appeal to the casual audience. Lesson their needs to be learnt by ITV. By all means have the quality factual (of BBC4 status) that is niche, but not every factual programme because it just weakens the schedule. The series 'Heathrow' is a step in the right direction and should appeal to the casual audience.
ITV rise above sub 2m on Thursday to 3m+ and actually take a chunk out of Death In Paradise last night. If they try a bit harder they might have a fighting chance of competing with the BBC more often.
