I don't think you can really put ITV in the same bracket as BBC1 now. But look at the figures shooting up for the news on ITV. That's why I think they should treat it with a bit more respect and it would help there whole schedule.”

Agreed, it's no longer a fair fight. If this was boxing the ref would intervene and call it off.

What a dreadful set of ratings for ITV. The thing is that this is a weekly occurrence, not just a one off. They still make an effort in daytime Monday-Friday so I don't see why they just don't bother at the weekend. Surely they could come up with better than repeats of shows that mostly flopped the first time? BBC1 had a very good morning but even their afternoon wasn't much to shout about, but it looks like Strictly ratings compared to ITV's offerings! Very poor and yes you've got a good point about the news. When they air it at teatime am I right in saying it often outrates You've Been Framed that follows it? I think I remember seeing that somewhere. It sums the situation up though. Plus if they insist on repeats they could at least repeat successful shows!

I look forward to seeing what happens with Thunderbirds!

ITV would be better off showing a blank screen, it'd probably interest more viewers. If ITV really throw away Thunderbirds at 8am rather than using it properly when their weekend afternoons are in that kind of a state then they get what they deserve.

Then again it's not like having only three programmes and a news bulletin over 1.5m throughout a weekend daytime in January is a lot for BBC One to brag about either.

This did make me laugh, but for the record I make it a weighted average of 2.35m (13.9%) for Skyfall

Awful for SITE - it's exc +1 average was 3.40m, less than its first 15 minutes. It should have built to 4m at least so I'd guess they actually lost a good number of viewers across the hour.

There doesn't seem to have been much appetite for it in the first place though which is not a good sign because there can't be many better nights of the year to launch than the first weekend back at work when its miserable outside. ITV must be longing for the days of Splash 2013!

The Voice looks to have capitalised on that and a strong BBC schedule anchored by the news bulletins. It's a few hundred thousand higher than I'd have thought.

It's probably downhill for both shows from here but I suspect SITE will plunge faster and it's already dreadfully low. Hopefully it puts ITV off these revivals.”

You say the figures shooting up for news, but they don't really do they? They only look decent because of the poor ratings elsewhere. In reality, the news ratings are poor as well.

Why ITV haven't tried to bin the weekend regional bulletins yet, I don't know. They should concentrate on their 6pm weeknight bulletins instead. The weekend bulletins are worthless.

Well the figure doubled for the regional news, from 0.53m to 1.01m. That's what I'd call shooting up. Obviously people turn on to watch the news. Schedule it consistently and slightly more prominently and the figures will continue to grow and it'll help the rest of the schedule.

The BBC regional news pulled in 6.33m, the second biggest rating of the day, and gave a massive leg up to Now You See It.

Does anybody watch TV on a Saturday afternoon unless it is sport?

If ITV spent millions of pounds on Saturday afternoon the ratings would be the same.

I can't see how they would be able to gain any ground on Saturday mornings either. We all know what would happen if they tried something more substantial like a live show.

I do agree that the news should air later in the evening at teatime and should always try and ensure it doesn't clash with the BBC News.

On a Sunday I'd have the schedule of the following every week:
3:00ish Film - classics like James Bond etc
5:35 The Chase (rpt - normal people version)
6:30 Regional News
6:40 ITV Weekend News
7:00 Prime Time viewing

Not sure anything before 5:00 on a Saturday is worth concentrating on though

One figure when the regional news was way out of its normal slot isn't exactly a good example to use.

Plus the regional news is only 5 mins so that rating includes the weather and loads of adverts and trailers.

viewers dropping off would tie in with what was on Twitter. Utterly scathing amazed so many critics were loving it. But I suspect a lot of them didn't want to come over as sheep following the General feeling the revamp just didn't work.

I think it does raise a serious question about ITV Commissions they clearly want Hill on ITV so why not give him just a sketch show ? it seems crazy as most of the show was sketches.

Another poor night for ITV, SITE, which they hoped would get 5 million, got a miserable 3.7 million, TMO seems to be fading now on a similar rating, and repeating Skyfall three weeks after its premiere deservedly saw it get 2.1 million. I think away from BGT, SNT and TXF, ITV Saturdays are really struggling now. Seems that until SNT starts, TV will be regularly attracting over 8 million.

My mum chose not to watch Stars In Their Eyes because she saw a clip on Lorraine Kelly's show and didn't like what she saw. As she doesn't watch The Voice UK (or Strictly or X Factor or Britain's Got Talent or I'm A Celebrity or Bake Off or Downton - not a standard viewer, my mum), she caught up on the Christmas Midwife and last Thursday's Birds before watching Win Your Wish List and Casualy.

Anyway, my point is she got put off Stars by the promotion.

Clearly, it was the reboot of Through The Keyhole that encouraged ITV to revive Stars. Thing is, they didn't mess with the format of Keyhole. All they did is pick idiot character Keith Lemon to explore the houses and present the programme in his own inimitable (thank God) style. Bearable enough (to some) to make it a moderate hit.

Stars success before was down to the simplicity of the format. It's members of the public doing (often impressive) impressions of famous singers and pop stars. If ITV don't think that sort of thing won't work as it is with a modern audience then don't bring it back, Certainly don't revive it with added bits of stupid comedy. That's like trying to boost X Factor's ratings by hiring The Chuckle Brothers as hosts and telling them to "treat it like your own show".

Having said this, maybe Stars will surprise us and do just as well as Keyhole in the ratings (which, as I said, was just a moderate hit of about 4m consolidated, including +1). And if they've only recorded two of the episodes so far, maybe they could yet save it (but probably not).

Worth noting that last night's rating for The Voice UK was just 0.09m less than part 1 of last month's X Factor final and higher than most X Factor ratings from the past series.

As I have said for years, ITV should never have dropped racing and dropped wrestling just before the American version took off. I'm sure a modern day World of Sport with the same light hearted approach could work.

Stars In Their Eyes is just too dated a format to work nowadays. What did "Your Face Sounds Familiar" rate in comparison to SITE revamp? That was a half decent successor imo and had managed to modernise the format whilst retaining the key element of SITE. This was just Harry Hill's Burp in their Eyes. (Although I don't think it was as bad as the OTT social media reaction).

For Harry Hill, it's TV Burp or nothing. I don't think a sketch show would get high enough ratings either.
