I really don't get why us Older people rubbish the Pop music of the time. don't they remember the "fogies" doing the same thing when we were younger.

Of course it doesn't mean much to you, it's not meant to. Its the same as ever probably there's some good music and a lot of trash.

I've mostly disliked pop music throughout my life though, particularly during the 80s when I should have been of the age to like it but I despised it.

Taylor Swift is better than a lot of pop stars. Yet I wouldn't watch the brits if you paid me, like I wouldn't listen to Radio1.

Anyway Brits did okay, and the Madge fall certainly had more cultural reference for someone that didn't watch it then for decades. Adele's middle-finger not on the same level, IMHO.

Why hopefully? They're rubbish with or without him.

It's just nice to see a celebration of successful British music in what is otherwise such a miserable cultural climate at the moment. Nice to know we're still amongst the world leaders in one industry, when it feels like we're falling behind Germany/the East in most other respects. That's all.

Great rating for The Brits last night, and regardless of the rating, I bet the demographics were gold dust as well.

Poor rating for Strictly, you'd expect a better rating with that name attached, and more older viewers than usual being available than normal on a Wednesday with ITV skewing young. The lead in was large as well.

Great rating for Tuesday's football as well, but of course if a combination of half a dozen things happened, then a match later on could rate much lower which would be bad.

Can I ask with the BBC1 local news changes are we able to see if it has had any effect? The longer bulletin at 10 pm till 10.45 and the shorter lunchtime one, any effect on shows closeby?

I read a number of complaints some in the radio times about switching over at lunchtime to ITV local news.

Hello, a laptop, it can run extremely slowly, but I know the site can sometimes crash if fans of various shows all try to post at once. Luckily today it's been fine.

Certainly the move away from dance music in the last 3 years and the rise of acts like Royal Blood, Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding has made British music interesting again. People will always want to see and hear real bands, dance music doesn't really deliver that.

It's getting a BFI screening on April 13th, which rules out my suggestion of Easter Monday but should mean it'll start Late April/May.

Poldark's screening was on Monday, just under two weeks before it starts, so if you went off that Jonathan Strange would start w/c 25th April. Poldark finishes the Sunday of that week so it can't go there, and I think George Gently will be airing by then which would rule out Thursdays. Ordinary Lies does finish just in time for Strange to start Tuesday 28th April, but it's not your typical Tuesday drama so I'd say The Syndicate will end up there (possibly the week after, if Masterchef is at 9pm again for its final week.)

If it is that week then Monday is the likeliest place for it imo, at this point though I think they'd be better off waiting until the Sunday slot frees up after the Baftas. The only reason I thought it wouldn't go on Sundays was because I assumed it would air earlier and Poldark was in the way. So I'm expecting it to start on either Monday 27th April or Sunday 17th May.

There's a possibility I might be getting a placement within the costume department for new BBC1 drama 'Cuffs'. I have yet to her back whether its going ahead, but I'm pretty hopeful. I thought I would mention it, might interest a few on here.

The new look Thunderbirds team are similar animation to Toy Story films I believe, so think Toy Story for ho the animation might look in motion. These still's do them no favours.

Bit of a drop for BBC Two, I know I like their repeats in the afternoon and shows like Great Railway Journeys and Antique Roadtrip, but is there much for the under 40s on there? The complete lack of any younger programming, a genre where BBC Two was strong in the nineties, must be hitting Two quite hard and with BBC Three going, this could hit the BBC in general among young viewers unless BBC Two is revamped. Certainly not many 17 year olds are going to make a date with Eggheads or Coast.

Worth noting that tonight's Europa League rating on ITV (which will be pretty low anyway due to the team involved and the 1st leg score) will be dented further as Liverpool have gone to extra time over on ITV4. Should be a good peak for the ITV4 game though and the rating will make for interesting reading.

Why didn't they put Liverpool on the main channel? Did their match have to be the earlier one?

Yes, ITV don't choose the kick-off times. Usually if an English team is away from home they kick off at 6pm and ITV don't want to disrupt the news.

Very good figures for The Great Comic Relief Bake Off, The Brit Awards and Wolf Hall last night. The People's Strictly was hit and I wonder whether it's format will help DCI Banks next week. 24 Hours in A&E and GPs: Behind Closed Doors did well for Channel 4 and Channel 5 respectively.


ITV must be sorely tempted to switch the matches over and have Liverpool on the main channel. Then again they managed to miss the first few seconds of extra time due to adverts - and they wonder why ITV Sport is much maligned!

Note that, of the eight weeks in the year to date on BBC Two, two-and-a-bit weeks in 2014 had the Winter Olympics and one week had stripped Sport Relief Bake Off, so that explains to some extent the year-on-year fall.

EDIT to add: BBC Two's overnight share among 16-34s was 3.4% in the week ending last Sunday (all individuals: 5.8%). Compare that with Channel 4 (6.7% and 5.1%) and Channel 5 (3.9% and 3.6%).
