I'm sure you'd be just as understanding if it was the Voice that was down 700k year on year like Takeaway.

I thought Takeaway might be up on last week for that very reason so am disappointed in that figure. Very good for The Voice UK but it would be better if you weren't so overly defensive when someone dares to criticise a BBC programme/figure on here - there's no doubt The Voice would have seen a boost after Takeaway finished. I'm the early weeks Take Me Out saw an increase after The Voice ended, for example. EastEnders on Thursday got a boost post Emmerdale. It happens.

Actually last night when we were watching Takeaway, my dad said it reminded him of a Morcombe and Wise sketch, but a modern version. In the ways of mistaking a guests name: Simon Cowell instead Simon Callow, and the end performing with the guests.

Takeaway again ran from 18:59-20:21 this week and so the last five minutes will be deleted in the tape-checked ratings. This is the difference it made last week:

Full-slot (19:00-20:25) - 6.46m (29.1%) inc +1
Tape-checked (19:00-20:20) - 6.57m (29.7%) inc +1

It was actually 55 minutes and clearly that length of time without significant opposition is going to boost TVUK's average. That's not an excuse but a statement of the obvious. I await the breakdown but I'd be willing to bet it would bear me out on that.

Well I wasn't expecting A&D to dip expecially as it had the head start. Still a good figure though.

I bet It pains you to see the Voice still being Sats most watched program. If anything the rugby would have helped A&D more as they had the head start. The Voice had the news as a lead in.

Which gets 6m+ on an average weekday on BBC1. Compared to YBF on ITV, I can;t see the lead in's being very close in ratings terms at all.

That isn't great at all. Yes, it's better than what's gone on before but a blank screen would have probably pulled in more figures than Stars in Their Eyes! But I can't see any reason for it to be down year-on-year by that extent.

A drop of 300k vs. a drop of 2m. No need!

I love it when people slate a program and are proved entirely wrong just a few hours later. Last night we had a lot of TVUK is too long at 2 hours (boring/tedious etc) and A&D with 15 mins head start will win easily and now its the excuses for poor old A&D that because TVUK is 2 hours is the very reason it won and its somehow not fair.

The truth is TVUK v A&D has always been close and probably will continue to be so, they both hurt each other and would be much bigger against easier opposition.

Do you offer any insight to the thread or just get off at taking digs at other posters? It's pathetic. Stop assuming what other people are thinking.

Good for The Voice. Of course the number increased once Ant & Dec finished. Most people have no problem watching only half of a programme if they're only a casual viewer and there's not much on. I also think SNT is the sort of show I prefer to watch live. Slightly disappointed it went down as it was a better show than last week.

So not only are they ripping off Noel Edmonds but M&W as well !!!

Year on year drop of 700k for Takeaway actually. 250k year on year increase for The Voice.
Both had the same rating incl+1 last year, now Ant and Dec are 1m behind. Now that's what I call a plummet !

The only reason the Voice is up is because of even worse competition from ITV in January. Last year they at least had Splash which would get 3-4m. People just don't care about the Voice! Proven by ratings always dropping as the final approaches.

With the football next week sport is helping The Voice UK out nicely through the Battle Rounds, moving it later meaning less of a clash with Takeaway. It doesn't explain Takeaway's decline, though.

It probably wasn't that far down. Probably more like 500-600k tapechecked.

Quite amusing how some people are so excited by Takeaway falling slightly. It's not like The Voice is 1.6m lower than a fortnight ago or anything.

I get the impression one day we will see some form of A and D sketch/variety show-I cant see this hectic live format lasting forever and it will be interesting to see if they morph more and more into the Morecombe and Wise zone.

Still surprises me a bit that Takeaway doesn't get more of an audience because the appreciation appears so warm from those that do tune in. I think its underperformed a touch over the years tbh. TVUK is pretty resilient in its fourth series-in fact I think its actually cementing its status even more-so there is strong opposition I guess. I don't know how these things work financially in truth, but if ITV do buy Talpa surely they wont be selling TVUK for the BBC to bash them again and again in Jan/Feb/Mar?

Saturday Night Takeaway - 6.41m/6.87m (27.8%/29.8%)

So. TVUK is UP by approx 0.25m where SNT is DOWN by approx 0.7m. SNT figure may change once we get the tapechecked figures in.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm sick of posters lambasting programmes. I noticed it with Gogglebox where somebody implied that the people who watched it were stupid. People watch programmes because they want to watch them.

Television would be so boring if there were highbrow documentaries on every single channel 24/7. People want to be entertained, and if Gogglebox, or SNT, or The Voice, entertains millions of people then so be it.

Sorry for that rant, had to get it out there. No doubt it'll cause WW3.

I'm sorry but I don't remember the BIB actually happening. Quotes please. Once again people are twisting things to suit their own narrative. And the excuses line being trotted out again. I'm sick of valid points being discredited as excuses. Surely we're here to discuss ratings and why they are what they are. Reasons are being suggested. No one is making "excuses."
