ITV is now becoming the channel nobody watches. As for CS it needs to be daring to reel people in. Why not push the boat in BGT week by showing eps at 9.00pm and have something like Liz McDonald graphically beating up Tracey Barlow after finding out she has slept with her man?

It dropped 300k from last week, when there was a longer show which didn't clash with SNT. Hardly the disaster which you're making out.

Kieran Roberts comes across across better than Stuart Blackburn when discussing Coronation Street, and he also makes the show sound better. What a difference between "six months of build up will be fantastic" compared to "we don't know what we're doing yet/we'll have a big stunt".

No, because they faced 8m+ competition and Eastenders didn't/doesn't. Pretty incomparable really.

In fact the ITV soaps nearly always face stronger competition. Eastenders nearly always doesn't outside of clashes but still can't capitalize.

Of course you could argue that the opposition is so strong because the ITV soaps are lower but it's a pretty weak argument - BBC1 simply has a stronger schedule.

Eastenders should be the one benefiting the most in a usually strong line up while ITV's big shows flail unsupported on a struggling channel. But it isn't much, bar posting the smallest declines year on year. Though presumably EE has more on IPlayer which makes up for it.

However the whole discussion is probably a moot point - all soaps are down, simple as. Petty arguments over which soap held up better on certain days don't change that.

I'd like to point you to last Summer when EE faced the World Cup / Emmerdale / Corrie / being shifted on BBC Two, yet people still spent pages and pages discussing its 'crisis'.

For a channel nobody watches,it seems odd that it can make over 700 million in profit, you obviously know a lot more about this than the advertisers.

Thanks for those.

Not a bad start at all for YBITR but very weak for Takeaway, wonder what went on there?

Are they with plus one if so that's not good for SNT. Plus that's a better then I expected figure for YBITR. Plus JR not seeing much of a boost for it's Madonna special.

Yes but how many will be "back in the room" to watch next week - not many if the reaction to last night is anything to go by.

BBC1 is to televise a 40s-themed concert from Horse Guards Parade on May 9 to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day. Among those taking part will be Paul McCartney, Elton John,Rod Stewart and Vera Lynn. On May 8 there will be a service from the Cenotaph and fly past by the Battle of Britain wing.

Thanks C14E.

That definitely includes +1? Do you have any ratings for the other channels out of interest?

Lots of curiosity value for YBITR then, that's quite a good figure. If comments are anything to go by on DS it will be below 500k next week.

Based on the that figure, not so good for SNT. Almost a million behind TVUK(including its repeat), they wont want to be losing too many more in the remaining three shows. Its still a well appreciated and strong family format but I think they should at least start to think about a show which will eventually succeed SNT.

At least they are trying something different. They will be very pleased with that rating

Cheers C14E. So it dropped a little bit but no more than is to be expected for a show airing out of Takeaway (even if Takeaway was weaker than normal).

Really? Isn't it down about 500k on last week?

Edit. That was the week before, 7m last week. Wouldn't say it was holding on to viewers though!!

The BBC tried something different with the Puppet Gameshow - not sure that got much praise because it was rubbish and so was YBITR.
