On the subject of a Downton Abbey replacement for ITV have we considered that they might buy in the new series Julian Fellowes will be writing for NBC in the US, The Gilded Age which looks like it'll be ready for 2016 now? Also worthy of note that PBS are saying they've already had some talks with Fellowes and co. about a new drama to 'replace' Downton possibly the long rumoured Downton Abeey spin-off/prequel.

Dermot o'leary is leaving The X Factor.
Let the new presenter suggestions begin, Jeremy Clarkson maybe? Fearne Cotton? Emma Willis? Holly Willoughby? Bring back Kate Thornton? |

Clarkson I'm assuming wasn't a serious suggestion. Thornton no chance and Willoughby very doubtful. Difficult to think of many obvious contenders, really ? |

Well it won't be Emma. She's contracted to Big Brother this summer when auditions will be taking place.

I can't say I'll miss him. Its a thankless job though particularly at this point as the shows momentum has evaporated. Given the terrible job Cowell and co. did of finding a host for the US version and the Xtra Factor to be fair I dread to think where they'll end up here.

On a somewhat more serious note I wonder if they might do what they did in the US (and what the BBC have with The Voice) and go for a presenting duo of some kind. Perhaps one that could double up and do The Xtra Factor as well? Not that, that makes the decision any more obvious really. |

Potentially you could use Ant & Dec like Pop Idol, but you'd have to either bump IAC to Janurary and then you have the issue of where do you put Takeaway? Could you potentially have Caroline Flack and Olly Murs fronting the main show considering how well recieved they were on Xtra factor? |

Feasibly, Emma stepping down fron BOTS gives her much less live air time so they could easily work the filmed auditions around her schedule (and Simon would probably take great delight in 'poaching' her from The Voice) but whether she'd want to do it is another matter. I agree there's no obvious replacement though and for all I'd change about the show, I'd have kept Dermot, he manages to deal with all the shennanigans on XF well (judges not voting etc. .) and was clearly pretty at ease in the role

Possibly paired up with Olly Murs given they worked well on Xtra Factor when they hosted together for 2 years, although that would depend on his availability. Shame about Dermot as he was good in the role, but to be fair he's done it a long time so some change maybe isn't a bad thing. Wonder if he jumped or if he was pushed? |

The one thing I have heard most Downton fans say is that after following this family across a couple of decades they would love to see what happens to the abbey as more decades pass.
That may or may not happen in the mooted movie (or if a hit probably in a series of movies). Not sure a prequel series will have quite the impact. Though it might work as - say - a 2016 Christmas special. I can see that happening when ITV realise they have a hole to fill in that period. Downton Abbey 1896 or something like that. |

The hype about Emma Willis is past annoying. Dermot may have been past his best, but ironically he was one of the good remaining parts of the show. Willis has never been a patch on him at his best or worst. |

Caroline Flack seems the obvious bet. She was popular on Xtra Factor and when she was on Celebrity Juice last week she said she's got a big new job but wasn't allowed to talk about it.

Yeah, I could see that. Perhaps a male co-presenter as well? It's one of the better things about The Voice, although I admit that list isn't an overly long one.
There are other male co-host options out there though. I thought Reggie Yates was quite good on The Voice personally but I seem to be in the minority on that one. Greg James maybe? Or possibly even someone not so well known. They seem willing to get rid of the fixtures this year though it seems with Dermot gone. I wonder if Louis Walsh will be next out the door? Or Cheryl? |

I would think that she's taken the job on The Voice likely discounts her at this point.
