ITV and BBC should be sticking up for themselves far more over some of these pointless and petty attacks!

Even by Daily Mail standards that is weak!

Indeed, almost like they had to run a BBC bashing story and they didn't have much to go on this week.

It's not worth it. They know they can't win as the paper will just keep on and on.

The calibre of the Mail's TV reporting is shown by a contrived piece today (P. 19) (headlined: 'Seen it all before! BBC 2 has same shows two days in a row'.)
This reveals how BBC 2 schedules last night and tonight are all but identical. However, it makes an absurd pigs ear of doing this. Firstly, both nights are dominated by snooker as happens from time to time and this is always on for days and has always dominated BBC 2 schedules when it is. Then Eggheads is on daily as quizes often are on BBC and ITV. But it then claims that 'stripping' is 'far less common for documentaries such as Great British Railway Journeys' and summarises its two episodes. Except if the twerp who had written this piece had bothered to do any research then he would have discovered this popular show has run for five years now and ALWAYS been stripped exactly this way at 6.30 Monday to Friday. As it relates a different journey across a different part of the UK in 5 parts each week. With 4 or 5 journeys, one per week during the series. So it works that way and would not be the same without stripping. BBC bashing at its sloppy worst by some guy called Sam. ![]() ![]() Quote:
Agree the Daily Fail is rock bottom, I will not even call it journalism as that is an insult to other papers. I really like Michael Portilos Railways its a loverly show, and as you say always stripped.

Haha! Very unlikely - unless the BBC have sacked him?
He has a tiny point as BBC 2 are also stripping repeats of W 1 this week (good show as that is) and another documentary Natures Weirdest Events. Plus there is an Horizon special running over several nights. Though they have done that sort of thing with Horizon before when it is a themed special experiment. But the majority of what BBC 2 are showing are live sport or new debate or documentary material. So the fact they are trying an enhanced stripping schedule ought not to be promoted as something necessarily bad given this fact. Which does not appear to me to be obvious from the article. In fact reference to 'never anything new on television' implies they are mostly repeats. Which is incorrect. |

A Broadchurch backlash based on the fact ratings dropped due to a clash with Silent Witness, whose ratings also dropped. After episode 1 people were saying it wasn't as popular as the series finale. It ended up being more popular.
ITV Press Centre should be sending stats to these papers! |

As stated previously the papers love to have go if they smell weakness but ultimately they make little difference. Although its not just the fact that ratings were down there were a lot of negative comments from fans as well. If they ratings hold up though it wont make any difference at all.
Anyone know the record timeshift audience of all time? |

If the tabloids smell blood they go for it, TV, MPs, Football teams, and yes a few a few impressionable people believe it all. They were gunning for X a Factor and put the boot in on stars in there eyes.

What a disaster the evening line-up for ITV on Tuesday is. Quality factual is just dying on its arse with ITV having left it a dead slot, and viewers have helped with this. A drama needs to be launched there later this yer against weaker comp. if possible on BBC1. Factual is not working.
And again in the afternoon ITV are damaging their own schedule by moving TP earlier and placing Mel & Sue at 4pm. What does go through their heads you have to wonder. Even the thickest person could see moving a winning formula of TP and The Chase should not be moved, but no ITV schedulers know best. Stupid, stupid, stupid. That's going to be 5 long weeks The Chase will have a weak lead in. The fact its managing 3.4m with a lead in almost 2m below BBC1's Antiques Road Trip is impressive. If it still had TP lead in I'm sure it would be hovering around 4m. ITV need to swap Mel & Sue with Tipping Point now. |

Even when they do, they still run the story and run a single line at the end contradicting the whole thing.

Odd that The Sun has now fallen back in love with CBB after largely ignoring it for years and it's certainly not a big rating ITV show, which The Sun seem to favour. I think this is only to do with Katie Hopkins taking part as she is a columnist.

I've made a list of the biggest timeshifts (timeshift of over 2.5m). Probably missed a few out.
Sherlock (01/01/2014) - 12.72m (+3.54m) Downton Abbey (25/12/2011) - 11.59m/12.10m (+3.46m/+3.54m) Call the Midwife (25/12/2012) - 10.18m (+2.91m) Mrs Brown’s Boys (24/12/2012) - 11.68m (+2.90m) Downton Abbey (25/12/2012) - 9.69m/10.28m (+2.86m/+2.96m) Doctor Who (25/12/2013) - 11.14m (+2.85m) Still Open All Hours (26/12/2013) - 12.23m (+2.80m) Doctor Who (23/11/2013) - 12.80m (+2.62m) Sherlock (12/01/2014) - 11.38m (+2.61m) Call the Midwife (25/12/2014) - 9.41m (+2.58m) Sherlock (05/01/2014) - 11.38m (+2.54m) Top Gear (28/12/2014) - 7.38m (+2.54m) Top Gear (27/12/2014) - 7.21m (+2.51m) The biggest timeshift EXCLUDING +1 is Sherlock but INCLUDING +1, Downton and Sherlock are level with 3.54m. |

Standard 3.5-4.5m affair. Bet they wished they'd picked the Spurs game after all!
Three easy wins compared to Tuesday night where three of the four ties went to ET. Unlucky BBC. |

Well there are quite a few of those seemingly-the Mail is the second biggest UK seller behind The Sun (and has been heading the list a few times too).
