Celebrity Big Brother's programme title for tomorrow as apparently changed on Sky EPG to 'Celebrity Big Brother: Shock Arrival'. I haven't had the chance to check whether it has or not; just read it on the Big Brother forum.

Good find. I like the look of this, high production values.

Top Gear is such an attractive product given the demos it attracts, no wonder the commercial channels want in on the action.

Fifth Gear went over to Discovery in 2012, I read. Were its ratings not good enough for Channel 5 in the end? It had a good run there, though, nine years.

When the last original Top Gear presenters went to Channel 5 to do Fifth Gear, they didn't expect Top Gear to return in a revamped format. Fifth Gear just went down each series. They tried to make it like new Top Gear for one series, had numerous revamps and it didn't work.

Lots of programmes try to emulate the spirit of Top Gear and come close, but a lot of its success is down to those three presenters.

Exactly, it's just a image, aside from the teaser, there hasn't been any footage so you can't judge anything until the first episode airs.

I don't think ITV ever said Thunderbirds would be on the main channel for definite. It was just assumed. Also fans of the original appear to be complaining the most about the look. Most will give the show a go anyway.

Better to judge an episode than a picture.

It's going to different from the original as each episode is only 30 minutes with ads which isn't a problem as most animated series are that length anyway.

Ratings declined to really low levels. They probably should have pulled the plug sooner than they did in fairness.

C5 had a hit more recently with Classic Car Rescue, but this also declined for series 2.

They originally axed it then brought it back as Discovery came onboard as co-producer.

Given the success of Speed with Guy Martin and For the Love of Cars, I imagine Channel 5 will be hoping The Classic Car Show has similar success. I think 8pm on Mondays would be good.

I never thought I'd see BBC2 buying a major US drama again but it has happened! I think they hope for a critical darling like Fargo/Homeland/The Returned.

Quote:
“BBC2 swoops for US political thriller

BBC2 has made a rare major acquisition from the LA Screenings, swooping for big-budget US drama Odyssey.

The global conspiracy thriller, produced by Red Arrow Entertainment’s UK arm for NBC, was exec produced by Simon Maxwell, who is now head of international drama at Channel 4.

BBC2 controller Kim Shillinglaw and head of programme acquisitions Sue Deeks struck the deal with NBC Universal International Television Distribution ahead of its broadcast on NBC in the US in April.

It is one of the channel’s most significant Hollywood purchases since it picked up period drama Pan Am in 2011 and Heroes in 2006.”

And its superlative production values, and particularly the impeccable cinematography. The "fourth man" Andy Wilman the producer, and Clarkson ' s best mate since school, is a key player.

The Patagonia special, for all the brouhaha created, was actually the dullest and least offensive TG in years, ironically, and whilst it flagged terribly over 2 long hours, it sure looked impressive and oozed quality that comes from a first rate team.

Looking forward to the new series, seems an age since it was last on.

I have to agree there. It does seem like there has been a much larger gap between series this time. I can remember when it was on against X Factor years ago, and Mr Clarkson made comments about the BBC moving the show out of the way. I really think that they should consider moving it back again.

I agree with that. Comparing it to some of the earlier specials that have been on over Xmas it was fairly dull. Always look forward to a new series though.

Although BBC2s record recently with US acquisitions is not great.

Top Gear is a very slick production that has built its fanbase up over 10 years. Men in their 40s and 50s hosting and pulls in ridiculous amounts of younger viewers. It's a demo phenomenon and advertiser's dream. The Top Gear inspired shows always feel like Top Gear lite and you watch them every so often just waiting for Top Gear to return. This series is going to be longer than the last one according to the programme information. I miss the Autumn runs of the show. It used to struggle opposite The X Factor but could hold up much better now.

They haven't bought well recently but I'm glad they do have something. BBC2 had a great mix of homegrown and imports in the nineties and noughties. I get the feeling that Kim Shillinglaw wants to make the channel hip again after Janice Hadlow's successful but 'Radio 4/Middle England' feeling channel.

Yes we want more Buffy/Simpsons quality if they could get that.

Another strong night there for Eastenders. It is holding up well considering I thought that the Christmas bounce would have ended now.

Watchdog really was the weak link last night. It will be interesting to see what BOAF got considering how weak the competition was

Great figures again for EE and DIP. So glad the move to Thurs hasn't damaged it.
