Two episodes will air out of CBB in week 1. Here's the writeup for it (contains some spoilers). Can't decide if I think it will be a hit or a miss, hard to say I suppose without seeing it:

10,000 BC (1-2/10)
In a groundbreaking social experiment commencing this week on Channel 5, 20 modern-day Brits leave the 21st century to go back to the Stone Age. Their mission is to survive for two months in the wilderness by hunting and foraging for food. As the intrepid volunteers come to face with hunger, sickness and extreme weather, the series provides a unique insight into the origins of our human existence and explores what it takes to survive the Stone Age. From the 20 who start out, who will make it to the end?

In the first episode, the tribe is dropped into a forested wilderness in a remote area of Bulgaria. Waiting for them is Klint Janulis, an archaeologist and survival expert. He will help them swap their smart phones and modern clothes for animal skins and introduce them to their new home – a Mesolithic-style camp supplied with some basic tools, rations and a pile of flint.

To get them started, they are given a freshly killed deer – a sudden reality check for vegetarian Josie. With only hours before nightfall, the tribe have to preserve as much food as possible, dig latrines and make a fire. Hours later, with the fire still not lit and raw meat ready to be cooked, their first night looks likely to be a very cold and hungry one.

The next morning, the tribe wake to find fly larvae all over the meat and maggots writhing in animal hides. The tribe needs a leader and archer Steve is swiftly elected. Within 24 hours, the eldest of the tribe, Caroline, suffers from suspected heat exhaustion and Perry struggles emotionally. After two days, Klint leaves the tribe to fend for themselves.

In episode two, Steve calls a meeting. Having wasted some of the fresh deer meat they were given on day one, he is keen for them not to repeat the same mistakes. However, it is not long before the meeting turns into a row.

With the rations already running low, they need to hunt and forage what they can. Paul Barnes sets about building a boar trap while others improve their shelters against the rain and cold. Steve is furious when he discovers that JP and Aamer have spent the afternoon sitting around eating, and Kym stumbles across human faeces while she is cleaning. In her mind, there is only one person who could be the culprit.

If it's airing out of Celebrity Big Brother then I'm guessing it'll be 10pm then, the premise sounds okay, similar to The Island with Bear Grylls.

I'm the same. I can remember the first time I watched DiP. It was one of the 2nd series with Ben Miller, and it just didn't grab me.

However, I found the idea of Miller's character being murdered at the start of series 3 quite audacious, so I gave it another go and I've enjoyed it ever since.

It's a lightweight show but it's well made, and attracts a good range of guest stars (I guess the the idea of a few weeks in the sunshine filming is too good to resist!)

The Vanessa Show was a horrid piece of television. The ratings were poor, and the fake guests were a symptom of an out-of-control production team. Despite the ratings, and the actors the show employed, the biggest horror of all was the show's ill-informed, dangerous crusade against the MMR vaccine. When a TV series actively puts the nation's health at risk, you know there's a big problem.

The ratings and the fake guests made it inevitable the programme wouldn't get renewed, but I think the MMR crusade was what got the programme taken off the air before it reached the end of its initial commission.

I don't think the BBC blamed Feltz for any of it, though. They gave her other daytime programmes to present over the following 18 months, and they nurtured her radio career. I don't think they'd have done that if they felt she was to blame for much of what went wrong.

Broadchurch (05/01) - 10.86m (10.40m excl. +1)
* peak: 11.25m
Silent Witness (06/01) - 8.59m
Silent Witness (07/01) - 8.49m
Celebrity Big Brother (07/01) - 3.65m (3.44m excl. +1)

Utterly monstrous consolidated figure for Broadchurch, consolidating over 3 million from the overnight number! When you see the consolidated figure for Silent Witness, it is very easy to see why both damaged one another in this week's overnights.

They have a new 4 part series of Midsomer beginning on Wednesday 28th January. They presumably aired repeats last night and last week as they didn't want the NTAs next week to interrupt it mid-run. It fits nicely as the new episodes get an uninterrupted run finishing on the 18th and then the Brits are on the 25th, so they can then start new shows without any awards shows interrupting them the following week on March 4th.

I think they moved it to 9pm one autumn, then completely removed it from the autumn schedules the following year prompting Clarkson to announce at the end of the summer series, "We'll be back whenever The X Factor 's finished."

There's no reason why it couldn't go back to autumn now, with Factor much weaker than it was, and with ITV having simmered down a bit since their 2009 fit of pique about other channels daring to show programmes at the same time as Factor.

The new series of Top Gear has ten editions.

Also, and I'm not sure if this will be reflected in the Top 30's, but I can see all the regional news bulletins in the consolidated figures.

Thanks DMN.

That Broadchurch figure is huge especially considering what the overnight rating was. And Silent Witness is a huge timeshifter especially in recent years. Episode 2 added over 2m I think.

Celebrity Big Brother doing well for Channel 5. Channel 4 wouldn't mind those numbers either.

Do you have any ratings for BBC2's 'rich season' of programmes?

Pity last Thursday's numbers aren't out yet. Boooo!

Thanks for those. Crazy timeshift for Broadchurch. How does the 3.65m figure for CBB compare to previous series openers in January?

The fact ITV and Channel 5 tried to resurrect the format shows how good Vanessa is as a presenter. She's very good on the radio and clearly the fact she presented her show on BBC London is proof of that.

That's Father Brown on the right by the way. Great ratings for both. Father Brown is the best rated BBC1 daytime drama outside of Doctors. Would love to see WPC45 get these numbers.

That is a massive timeshift for Broadchurch!

Regarding CBB... last January's launch officially got 3.69m, so the 3.65m is only 40k down. However, looking at past ratings, the officials for this week of CBB should overtake some of last January's. As of now (bear in mind we still have a long way to go), this series is the highest rated since the move on Channel 5.

Silent Witness is a demon timeshifter. It usually added 2m when overnights were in the 5m range, but to do that when it's an overnight of 6m is impressive for a BBC1 show.

They have a couple of (Bigish) storylines.
It ended before Christmas on a Cliffhanger (A Doctor let a patient die which at the moment is secret. Viewers assumed she isn't really a Doctor) which they touched up on when it returned.
The character has since taken a Holiday with her Boyfriend who is aware of what has happened. There was also a Happy Christmas wedding to Rob and Karen
who are popular with the viewers and have won some awards in the past.

The Daily storylines have been fairly good but Doctors is such an easy viewing soap and very consistent.

It's so nice to see the soap doing so well. It's about time the BBC gave it a repeat slot.

I can see some sense in that but I don't know if a week off mid-series would pose more of a risk than airing two repeats and having people assume the next four episodes will be repeats too.
