Now you See it

Now you don't

Whoever decided to have this lead into the Voice is deluded.

It should have been Pointless Celebrities (even a repeat)

Paul Daniels on Now You See It:
@ThePaulDaniels: I usually do not pass comments on other 'magic' shows but Now You See It is the worst TV magic show I have ever seen, inc the commentary.

@ThePaulDaniels: SO bad, full of camera tricks, amateurs, YouTube bad quality out of focus... it's goes on and on. I feel sick.

A lot of the TVUK audience won't watch TXF, they will be the BBC1 Saturday audience who expect to be entertained by them 52 weeks a year, so even tune in to random one offs like last week and shows with Shane Richie hosting. They will think a singing show is a fresh new format!

Stars won't get anymore than 4m at best.

Well yeah, when I saw Harry Hill was doing it then it was pretty clear it would be done for laughs. It could be perceived as a car crash, but I think it has it's tongue too far in its cheek for that. It reminds me a little bit of Let's Dance for Comic Relief, but weirder (because of some of Harry Hill's humour).

Well the master of 80s/90s magic has spoken.

I bet it will still get 5m though.

Regarding Stars, maybe they should have just played it straight and used Phillip Schofield or Christine Bleakley as the new host? Would that be better received?

So in summary, tonight BBC One and ITV are having a competition to see who can come up with the worst received new programme of the night.

So far it's a closely fought contest, with ITV gradually getting the upperhand with Stars In Their Eyes.

Yes that magic show was really crap before the voice.
Next week I would swap this and put the news on before Voice maybe?

Agreed, I loved TV Burp one of my favourite shows but this is so forced and too ironic for its own good. I expected a slight play for laughs take on the SITE format but this appears to be purely a vehicle for Harry and not a good one.

They have 'Hilled' it thats what.
It was obvious that they were going down that route now the question is what do the audience want?

They're obviously trying to tap into the TV Burp audience. It obviously worked against Strictly but that skews much older than The Voice. Will people accept the change? Considering it's an older audience, if anything, floating around I fear for it slightly to be honest.

Surely SITE cant be worse than that magic thing?

Now I've seen some of Stars In Their Eyes I don't think TVUK will have anything to worry about. SITE could be bomb. I suspect in the morning we will see viewers just collapse over the course of the evening on ITV and TVUK rise.

It looks to me like it was a mistake giving it to Harry Hill and should have been hosted by Matthew Kelly again. Give Harry Hill his own show but not this.

They could have asked Matthew Kelly or Cat Deeley who both presented the show before. I think the show in it's old format would have worked fine with Phillip Schofield, though.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, we had that most awful rendition of Umbrella.

My ears !

It would probably have got a better reaction online but the ratings wouldn't have been great as in the days of The X Factor, The Voice etc it would have just seemed really dated and tacky.

Not that this version isn't tacky per se, but it's very different and out there and I'm glad they took a risk with it. Not that I can see it paying off. It's even more bonkers than Splash! It might rate okay tonight but I can see the rest of the series doing quite poorly. I'm finding it quite amusing myself but I think it's probably too bonkers to get a good reaction.

Also I agree with Dancc in that the last singer was bloody awful! That was often the case on the original mind.

The Voice just seems a bit old and Stars In The Eyes doesn't really work the way it is

I doubt either would have wanted to do it. Kelly doesn't do TV presenting anymore and obviously approved of this remake as he appeared at the start. Cat Deeley isn't likely to come back from the USA to do this, and she's barely remembered doing it in the first place.

No contest.

I can honestly say I have never, ever, witnessed a more negative reaction to a programme on social media, as the one we're currently seeing with Stars.

On the plus side, I'm having signal problems with ITV. So that's me out. Not that I needed an excuse, it was dire beyond words.

I've turned SITE off, truly appalling stuff.

There's no atmosphere during the performances and the bits in between are like a bad spoof.

I am watching (and enjoying) SITE and I watched (and enjoyed) Now You See It. Neither shows are meant to be taken seriously and are intended as fluffy and fun Saturday night telly. I really hate social media sometimes. Does anyone on it actually like anything?

Perhaps it would have been better t give Harry his own show and not one that the public fondly remembers? I suspect SITE now hosted by someone like Warwick Davis would have done better. It just doesn't work with Harry, Its amusing but just too bonkers for the audience nowadays.

I wouldn't be surprised if it loses a lot of viewers during the broadcast.

Good opportunity this for The Voice. Can it capitalise?

OK, they're now dragging the TV Burp alumni into Stars in Their Eyes.

They should have told Harry Hill that it's TV Burp or nothing. But... it's like a car crash. I can't stop looking away even though...

People on there do take things far too seriously. Obviously they aren't going to be everyone's cup of tea but even so.

Stars clearly being played for the TV Burp audience. Even Brian Belo just made an appearance.

What's the chances of Heather, Wagbo or Knitted Character appearing before the end of the series.

The good news is, if this is a flop, a return for TV Burp becomes ever so slightly closer.
