I think BGMT would benefit from having more of the judges and hosts and less of the random guests.
Completely agree. The audition shows are fantastic as they get very good access to the judges, and it's very rare to see Simon Cowell and Ant and Dec actually being interviewed and "off-camera".

Perhaps cutting to half an hour would be best, keeping the first part as now with the judges and losing acts in the studio, and then having the interviews with the finalists in the second part, cutting all the crap in between.

Edit @ 21:20: BGT me thinks could see a high peak tonight (plus another few front page headlines tomorrow)

I'm going to quite happily do a BBC1 fantasy schedule, with some imagination for once, with a return for primetime comedy in a new slot, and a move for some of BBC1's drama series.

NOTE: I've picked the 9pm shows as an example, as they will be constantly changing.

Monday
7:00pm The One Show
7:30pm Traffic Cops
8:00pm EastEnders
8:30pm Grange Hill *
9:00pm Ashes to Ashes /+ high brow factual programming
10:00pm BBC News at Ten
10:35pm Panorama *
11:15pm Inside Sport

*Just an idea, axe Waterloo Road, and a primetime return for Grange Hill. If it's premiered before Ashes to Ashes and after EastEnders, it could pick up both a young & old nostalgic audience.
*Panorama, I feel, is far too serious for a pre-9pm slot, where it is doing badly anyway. Surely it would be more open to controversial editions if it follows the news in a later hour

Tuesday
7:00pm The One Show
7:30pm EastEnders
8:00pm Watchdog
9:00pm Waking the Dead / Spooks /+ more drama from the BBC slate
10:00pm BBC News at Ten
10:35pm Movie Night

Wednesday
7:00pm The One Show
7:30pm DIY SOS
8:00pm Holby City *
9:00pm The Apprentice
10:00pm BBC News at Ten
10:35pm Not Going Out *
11:05pm That Mitchell & Webb Look

*Premiere Holby City in this new slot when The Apprentice starts, to give it a maximum chance of good figures going into Wednesday.
*A new comedy repeat slot for Wednesday nights, which could give BBC1's comedy series a good long term future.

Thursday
7:00pm The One Show
7:30pm EastEnders
8:00pm Top of the Pops *
9:00pm Would I Lie To You? *
9:30pm Gavin & Stacey
10:00pm BBC News at Ten *
10:35pm Question Time

*An incredibly ambitious plan, giving Top of the Pops an hours slot, in an attempt to bring the youth back to the BBC on Thursday nights. Bear in mind Thursday nights are teenager's favourites, as Skins & The Inbetweeners are on, etc.
*Shows aimed at a younger audience continue with comedy at 9pm-10pm, I feel they're wasted on Friday nights, as the young audience are usually out.
*Then at 10pm, comedy moves over to BBC2 perhaps, whilst BBC1 turns seriously political, with their news programme followed by Question Time

Friday
7:00pm The One Show
7:30pm A Question of Sport
8:00pm EastEnders
8:30pm Only Fools & Horses *
9:00pm Friday Night with Jonathan Ross *
10:00pm BBC News at Ten
10:35pm This Week *

*At 8:30pm, BBC1 have their first real primetime repeat slot, where they showcase their best comedy over the years.
*In an ambitious plan, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross is moved to 9pm, and the budget is increased. Live at the Apollo also gets this slot?
*And This Week arrives post BBC News, which is a step foward for politics on the BBC.

Anyway, what do you think? As a traditional ITV fantasy scheduler, perhaps I've made grave errors with this one.

I don't know whether TOTP's weekly hourly slot could work at all, hmmm, I think it's important it returns though.
You do realise we're going to get our knuckles rapped by the other posters PJ for putting up 'fantasy schedules'. But hey, it's the weekend (no ratings) and I'm stranded on the couch waiting for the floor to dry, so here's my reply.

I agree with quite a lot of what you've done, but with a few tweaks. I've also included Saturday and Sunday. Also, it's intended as the schedule for September - June. During the summer, there would be changes and an increased number of repeats.

Monday
19:00 The One Show
19:30 Jay Hunt's Daytime Half-hour*
20:00 Eastenders
20:30 Panorama**
21:00 Serial Drama
22:00 News
22:35 Monday night sports shows***

* If she wants it, it can go here
** Panorama needs to be kept in primetime I think - PSB and all that
*** BBC have the rights to so much sport/highlights I think a Monday night sports show could work really well...as long as it's nothing like Inside Sport

Tuesday
19:00 The One Show
19:30 Eastenders
20:00 Watchdog
21:00 Factual*
22:00 News
22:35 Film 2009**

* This includes the Apprentice, WDYTUA?, Drop Zone and Natural History
** Is it really so difficult to have a film review show all year?

Wednesday
19:00 The One Show
19:30 Jay Hunt's Daytime Half-hour
20:00 Holby City
21:00 Serial Drama
22:00 News
22:35 One Life/Imagine

I think with ITV being loaded with footie on Wednesdays, this is the perfect day for BBC One to have a female skewed line-up.

Thursday
19:00 The One Show
19:30 Eastenders
20:00 Tops of the Pops*
20:30 Family Sitcom**
21:00 Have I Got News For You?/Mock The Week***
21:30 Sketch Show/Sitcom
22:00 News
22:35 Question Time and This Week****

* I agree with your move to revive TOTP and think this would be the best slot to do it in, with little opposition from other channels. As well as focussing on the charts, I'd include an archieve section and new music section - kinda in the some tone as The Album Chart Show
** Continue with family sitcoms, but there needs to be a major rethink. Would also included Jon Culshaw's new show
*** Mock the Week moves over from BBC Two and the episode order of HIGHFY increases, so that each has 2 x 10 episode runs a year. Satire should be at the heart of the BBC1 schedule
**** Keep the politics on a Thursday night - you don't want it intruding on Fridays!

Friday
19:00 The One Show
19:30 Jay Hunt's Daytime Half-hour
20:00 Eastenders
20:30 A Question of Sport/Mastermind*
21:00 Friday Night with Jonathan Ross**
22:00 News
22:35 Thursday night comedy hour repeat

* In January 2008, Question of Sport was doing between 3 and 4 million in this slot, as why cram it with Total Wipeout repeats. I'd also add Mastermind or another new quiz
** I agree with you here too. Why waste one of your biggest shows in the 10:35 slot?

Saturday (flexible timings)
17:00 News and regional news
17:30 Family Sitcom (Thursday repeat)
18:00 Talent/Variey Show
19:15 Family Drama*
20:00 Lottery Quiz**
21:00 Casualty***
21:50 Results Show****
22:10 News
22:30 Match of the Day

* Three family dramas a year please
** BBC One already have three stable Lottery Quizes (1 vs 100, In It To Win It and Who Dares Wins). Add one more and give them all 10 episodes orders
*** Starting Casualty at 9 should hopefully result in a change of tone to a more adult show. I saw it for the first times in ages the other night and it's turned into some dreadful soap
**** Can be removed with the news and MOTD moved up if needed

Sunday
17:30 News
18:00 Countryfile
19:00 Antiques Roadshow*
20:00 Waterloo Road (Autumn), Lark Rise (Winter) + Hope Springs (Spring)**
21:00 Serial Drama/One-off/Feature Length
22:00 News
22:20 US Import

* Give Antiques Roadshow a larger episodes order rather than messing about with repeats mid-series
** Three stable dramas here allow Strictly results to move back to Saturday nights, which is much needed to prop up the rest of the Saturday night schedule.

10:35pm Panorama
11:15pm Inside Sport

10 past? It won't be that late but it will over-run slightly because they let a ten year old girl come back on stage to perform again after she burst into tears first time round.

Yes you can see the headlines-BGT terrorises ten year old or the biggest "ahhh" moment in tv history.
Either way the ratings could go through an even higher roof-Im surprised they didnt hold the girls reprise until the last possible moment.

I'm surprised you can find anything in that forum, the main thread goes faster than you can read it and then there are about 10 new seperate threads made every minute with people making individual points!

ITV NaT trail - "tears on stage - is the pressure getting too much?" and a clip of Hollie crying.

Unbelievable. I was spot on when I said part news programme, part BGT spinoff #2 even if I do say so myself.

I wonder what they were going to go for originally. This is certainly fast news reporting! Well, "news" reporting anyway.

I suspect they will already have had a BGT story to put on, and they'll add a bit onto the end "However, its clear the pressure is getting to the contestants....."

I honestly dont know whether to respect them or hate them for it. Is it cheating or is it just a great ratings move? I still can't decide.

Viewing figures got a mention on HIGNFY tonight. David Mitchell said they prove the public "like watching crap".

I think he might have point, this week!

Oh I'm certain they'll have had something prepared for Britains Got Talent. Its coming across as a tad desperate to me, tbh. I know it happens plenty on lots of news shows across all channels, but its been awfully obvious on NAT this week...

As for whether its a clever move, or just poor journalism - that would entirely depend on ones perspective of a channel I'm sure this would get plenty of stick on the BBC.

It's the second story on the trail not the second story on the programme

I find it quite odd that when News at Ten gets poor ratings everyone comments on it, now they are getting good ratings, they comment on the content and how poor the programme is. You can't have it both ways.

Problem is, viewing figures for tonight's HIGNFY are probably under 4m. Reggie's probably sunk to under 3m.

Could you imagine the outrage if the BBC did something like that.

That smacked of sour grapes though he needn't worry too much as I'm sure those same members of the public will yet get to watch him host HIGNFY on one of the many re-runs.
