Tbh, I find Charlie Brooker's reviews and commentary far better than either! Though perhaps not suited to a 6.30pm slot on Saturday evenings.
![]() Damn this ratings thread. At least I remembered to series-record it... |

Huge timeshift (percentage-wise) for Horne and Corden on BBC Three. Just goes to show we need to be careful jumping to conclusions on shows from their initial overnights (though they were pretty decent too). Particularly on the digital channels, timeshifts and iPlayer views make up a very significant proportion of their views.
Little consolation for the commercial channels who miss out on the ad revenue either way, but how exactly people access shows won't matter to the BBC. |

You know a way to skip the adverts when I watch a programme on ITV player, I'd love to know. Their presence is a thousand times more irritating than adverts on the telly
Still, the basic point still stands that while the BBC would have every reason to be delighted when a show jumps from 0.8m to 1.3m - ITV would have less of a a reason, because the timeshifted viewers are more likely to skip the ads on their recordings. |

If only I did. No, thats a good point - they can now maximise revenue from online.

Though quite often when we're watching an ITV1 programme live, the teletext goes on during the adverts. So we might qualify as a viewer of the programme but not the adverts. Maybe for true usefulness a commercial TV programme's ratings should be the number of people who watch the commercials during the break. I can see the ratings, now. Coronation Street: 160,000 X Factor: 146 Everybody else goes to the toilet, sends a text or pointlessly watch Merlin for 2 minutes.

Brillant night of tv tonight with Waterloo Road and The Apprentice.
All these reality shows seem to air at the same times each year, is there some kind of rota for them. Jan-CBB Jan-March-DOI March-June-The Apprentice and BGT June-Sept-BB Sept-Dec-X factor and Come Dancing |

I believe there will be contract talks for Big Brother later this year.Iam unsure about what C4 will do, unless theres a huge ratings boost this summer.

Been looking at the schedules for week 2 of Robin Hood and Primeval.
The Press Offices currently state Robin Hood is on at 18:25-19:10, and Primeval is 18:55-19:55. I'm surprised that ITV haven't scheduled Primeval till after 19:10 so it avoids clashing against Robin Hood. Seems like there is the opportunity for ITV to do this, but they're opting for an early(ish) start time. |

I'm hoping for 9 million for last night's apprentice. Probably a bit ambitious though, 7.5-8 million and a decent rating for your fired simply because the foxy Carol Vorderman on there should have stopped anyone going to bed till after it had finished

You're right. When my family record a commercial TV programme we always fast-forward the adverts.

I turned over to see Carol, but Eva Pope was the best woman on the box for me tonight.I really wish i had a headteacher like her.
.Not a ratings puller like our Carol though . Plus if she was your headteacher, where would be the fun. You could look, but you couldn't touch?

During X Factor I used to watch TV Burp, recorded from earlier, in 4 minute chunks during the ads with Picture in Picture on so i knew when the ads were finished.
Drove everyone mad, but I thought it was a more efficient use of time. |

OK, brace yourself people, a statistical rant is coming up
![]() I've had a bit of time on my hands this evening (scratch that, a lot of time!) and I did a bit of research into BBC One's weekday 9pm drama output this year. I know a few of us have expressed out amazement at what seems to be constant repeats and filler since the start of the year in the slots where you'd usually expect to see new drama. So - were now almost a quater of the way through 2009 and there have been 62 Weekday 9pm slots on BBC One, including tomorrow. In that time, there has so far been just 14 hours of new drama as far as I can remember (6x Hustle, 6x Mistresses, 1xHunter and 1x Jonathan Creek). Does anyone else find that a really low proportion? By means of comparison, over the 260ish Weekday 9pm slots in 2008, I calculate there was something in the region of 100 new hours of drama? So where have they all gone? I don't think its elsewhere in the schedule (I can't see any areas where there seems to be a whole lot more drama than before) - so are they just being stored up for the rest of the year? If it were summer months, I'd expect it - but for three big TV watching months, it just seems a bit poor... [end of statistical rant - sorry folks ]

They should have had more drama on screen by now and they are clearly plugging gaps with anything they can find. |

Big Brother Axed!

What are Channel 4 thinking? It may not have peformed well these past few years, but it's still one of their top rating shows and it's still, considering it's core of dedicated fans, saveable. Expect Channel 4 to sink if no proper action is taken or if they fail to find a replacement. |

Reflects the amount of posts in the discussion thread, which at my last check, last night, was only 6 pages off last year's finale thread.
I wonder if it'll pass the 10 million mark this year? |

Expect Channel 4 to sink if no proper action is taken or if they fail to find a replacement. BB going wont kill Channel 4. It may alienate some viewers, but with Red Riding, Heater Blumenthal's Feast, Shameless, Boy A, City of Vice, Dead Set, and loads more, Channel 4 proved it can still produce great TV. BB had a good run, and it still has 2 series to produce here due to the contract Channel 4 has with Endemol. |

Agreed. Everything comes to an end eventually, and it makes no sense to drag Big Brother on forever more for the sake of a few hardcore fans. It had a good run. I won't miss it though.

I think its a good decision.
No-one really thought they would keep it after 2010 did they? They are under too much pressure and its not rating well enough to keep it against all odds. Depending how well it does this summer I think another broadcaster might bid, but know knows. It probably won't work anywhere else but ITV. As we saw when it was moved to E4 it only works with a big audience on a big channel. |

Now I wonder if Five will buy the rights to Big Brother? It's a channel that needs all the help it could get and they could probably get it at a reduced price.
As for other shows, a good opening figure for The Apprentice. I can see ratings fluctuating on football nights, but I think the final just might clear 10 million this time. |
