As far as I can remember they stopped doing Fully Booked, or 'FBI' in Scotland during the holidays, so they just moved Live and Kicking up there instead to keep up the regional quota.

Yeah, it's a shame they didn't do that sooner. Live and Kicking was on its last legs by the time they decided to keep it going through the summer months.
I can't help thinking taking it off for the summer was one of the reasons SM:TV took off.

Yes, it was in 2001 that they started commissioning the Saturday morning shows to run all year round but with the summer months coming from Scotland - the last series of Live and Kicking and The Saturday Show both did it, then when Dick and Dom took over in the winter, the last two series of The Saturday Show, which were only in the summer, were exclusively BBC Scotland productions.
They announced they were going to do Live and Kicking from Scotland about five minutes before they announced it was being axed, which was good timing. You're right to say that SMTV probably succeeded by being on all year round, it used to be that the Beeb would win in the winter and ITV would win in the summer, with both channels running different shows in the winter and summer. But in 1999, SMTV ran all year round and viewers just stuck with it.
But the other factor was Live and Kicking plummeting downhill with the boring Steve Wilson and Emma Ledden in charge, I heard at the time that the Beeb were a bit concerned that Zoe Ball and Jamie Theakston had been in the papers too much and were appealing more to adults than kids, but they went too far in the other direction and Ledden and Wilson's series was very dull. I know it sounds odd complaining of a kids show being aimed at kids, but it stopped being fun for the whole family, which had previously always been the case. So SMTV cleaned up.
Emma Ledden is a PR person now, fact fans.

TMi is supposed to be rather good in more in the mould of the old style Saturday morning shows, but hidden away on BBC2 and cut to 90 minutes it never has had it's chance to make it's impact.
Even the BBC Trust have said the Saturday shows should return to BBC1, but the schedulers think Saturday Kitchen is far more important.

Pretty much confirms The X Factor results move to Sunday nights then, with Piers replacing it on Saturday nights. Happy it's being brought back sooner - hopefully he'll get some decent names for the second series - maybe Katie Price Part 2?

We've seen this happen on BBC One when the Strictly Results moved. The channel was losing viewers all evening, as people would go over to ITV for the X-Factor and then just stick with it for the rest of the night.
With the removal of the results, I could see Family Fortunes failing, as it was only getting figures of around 4 million in January once the X-Factor sandwich had been removed.
I suppose on the bright side, it will offer a bit of variety on a Saturday night, rather than just a choice between talent shows and their results.

I see ITV replacing the Saturday night results show with "X Factor: Making Your Mind Up" a 20 or 30 minute programme reminding you of who sang what, what the judges said about their performance, pus "those all-important telephone numbers"
Saturday's XF will also be repeated twice on Sunday before the results show - once on ITV2 in the morning and once on ITV1 at 4 or 5o'clock in the afternoon. And no need to add the caption "This is a repeat. The phone lines are now closed". Kerching, kerching, kerching £££.

Well, personally I think it's a terrible decision, because of what you've said. It kept audiences with ITV the whole night on a Saturday, which traditionally always appeals to a young audience. I can see why Cowell and ITV want it on Sunday, because of phone votes. Also, I disagree with them setting the auditions in theatres, as it will make it too similar to Britain's Got Talent, which I think is a bad thing.
The X Factor is a serious singing contest, not a family variety contest, and that's why I think the theatre audience will get too emotional, and a bad singer will get through. We trust the judges in the first rounds because it's entirely their decision. Also, the audience might start an "Off! Off! Off!" trend, which will make it even more similar to Britain's Got Talent.

For the first few weeks of the results, X Factor runs for two hours anyway, but with Harry Hill sandwiched in-between, at least 7 million viewers will be inclined to stay with the channel anyway. We could be seeing 35%/40%+ shares already.
I have a big problem. And that big problem is watching Z-list celebrities on gameshows.
It opposes the entire original goal of any gameshow, to make an ordinary person better off.
More recently, shows like Who Wants to be a Millionaire is a prime example of how this doctrine leads to successful viewing figures. Furthermore, the quite unconventionally event-like way it was broadcast in the late 90s helped it get brilliant audience figures. A week marathon really helped build momentum, and you wonder whether if ITV stopped the regular celebrity specials, and brought back the marathon, and the original game rules, could the series be rejuvenated?
Perhaps not. Perhaps it's simply had too much exposure. As for All Star Family Fortunes, I rate it as one of the worst gameshow comebacks in history. It's horrible to watch, and Peter Kay's even worse to watch. Is there such thing as having a low key gameshow? It would sure save ITV some money, and would reek in the benefits with a more loyal, stable audience. I'd like to see another presenter on Family Fortunes with ordinary people, not celebrities.
That goes for Mr & Mrs too, which has been an unlikely success story in the ratings. Nevertheless, I still think it would do as well, if not better, with non-celebrities. I certainly feel it would have more longevity.
Finally, Catchphrase host Roy Walker talked about bringing it back, and I think it would be a great idea.
In the last few years, ITV have built up a wonderful teatime schedule on a Saturday night, with their ever constant successful entertainment show You've Been Framed. It seems that pairing it with any other half an hour show would give it all the ratings hope necessary.
Harry Hill's TV Burp was once paired with the show on a Saturday evening, but now it's become a lot more successful, I can see it taking a more central part in the schedule, which it deserves. So, why can't ITV start commissioning some more cheap game/clip shows:-
