STV's latest drop is Animal's Do the Funniest Things, Saturday 6pm, replaced by Poirot.

Commitment to more local programming? Maybe the animals were too english?
![]() But I think we all know that the real reason they are dropping ITV shows is to cut unnecessary expenditure, nothing to do with locally produced programming. |

Is there any wonder why ITV has given up on nighttime programming when a something made for nighttime doesn't rate that much better than static text pages?

The problem with nightime tv is that there are too many options & too few viewers. With Channel four, Five, ITV2,3,4, Dave, GOLD, Luving, Hallmark, Discovery, Natl Geo and the news channels all chasing 500k of a total audience its thin pickings for everyone. It was fine in the late 80's when ITV was the only game in town.
Though even Quizmaina was better than hours of ITV Nightscreen. |

![]() ![]() Steady night for both main channels. Bad for Emmerdale, dipping below 6m though the fall matches that of EastEnders, which indicates it's because of the weather, rather than people choosing to turn off. Hell's Kitchen unsurprisingly won the 9pm slot, while Traffic Cops held up well. The Bill seems to have stabilised once again after an up down time of it. |

What exactly is that "Nightwatch with Steve Scott" programme. Please don't tell me they actually spend money to film a programme to be shown @ 2am in the morning? Common sense tells you to shove on a cheap, Jeremy Kyle repeat at that time, surely?
Specially made, but re-aired on Men & Motors at a more palatable time. It seems to be something that makes use of regional programmes so I suppose it's all fairly cheap to produce and actually probably makes ITV's 'commitment' to regional programming at bit more cost effective. |

Steve Scott is a great presenter IMHO and should be doing either The Evening News or News At Ten rather than The West Tonight and weekend bulletins. Nightwatch is not bad actually. Its usually Steve introducing filmed sequences of fire or police or whatever on patrol at night

But, as you say, 6pm on Saturday doesn't appear to be the natural home of Poirot!

USA Ratings In Brief:
Not a great night night for FOX, Bones was down at 2.2 at 8pm with 8.2m viewers. Hells Kitchen had a 3.0 rating across the hour (series average - 3.8) at 9pm which put it 4th for the first half an hour but was good enough to beat out 30 Rock from 9.30pm which had a 3.1. CSI is looking rather low, Survivor (3.6), Greys Anatomy (4.9) and The Office (3.7) all beat it in the 18-49 demo. It did win the 9pm hour in total viewers, with 14.45m to Greys Anatomys 13.22m. Both shows are a long way from their former peaks, though. Southland was hit by the return of Private Practice at 10pm. It lost 5 tenths in the 18-49 demo, down to a 2.5 vs PP's 3.4. In the demo, ABC (3.3) won the night, CBS was a close second (3.1), NBC (2.7) were third just ahead of FOX (2.6). A different story in total viewers where CBS lead, ABC were second, FOX third and NBC fourth. Also, Obama wants the 8pm hour next Wednesday. That'll disrupt Lie To Me (FOX), new episodes of Rules of Engagement and New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS), and Better Off Ted and Scrubs (ABC). It's also the first night of May Sweeps and with so little time until the end of the season, it's going to make it tricky to reschedule. FOX should stick with Lie To Me, as Obama never does well for them, and Lie To Me would probably get some of the audience that don't want to watch Obama.

Does Obama ever shut up? The networks must be getting seriously annoyed with him now.

I thought they were going to rotate him next time, so that each network in turn would show his speech CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox. Of course the President would go nuts because the ratings for his speeches are only high because its simulcast on all major nets. Still if he keeps going the way he is, the nets will have no choice.

*NBC are an exception this time. Jay Leno is being replaced by Conan O'Brien in the first week of June and so some of their 10pm shows are expected to run into June. And all they have on Wednesdays at 8pm is a Law and Order repeat so they probably couldn't care less about this. Quote:

But one of their bosses (Mike Darnell) was saying recently that they have no plans to stop carrying the speeches. They want to be one of the big 4. |

Top 10 programmes of the week
4 - 9.54m - Doctor Who (Sat, BBC1) Quote:
Omid Djalili Show got 2.57m on Monday. That's about half a million higher than the slot average.
I watched this on Monday, thought it was rather good actually. Maybe s2 will be stronger? Quote:
A certain early evening magazine programme is doing a one hour special tonight. Do people think it will dent the ratings of other channels?
![]() Had to LOL when I saw this, obviously knowing that it had taken a chunk out of Corrie. You really expected it to flop didn't you? ![]() Quote:

I've never really understood the vitriol against The One Show to be honest.
They want BBC1 to be showing prime-time documentaries on basket-weaving and such like... |

Having mentioned the US late night chatshows (I've always thought the UK is missing a trick here), Jonathan Ross was very good tonight. Spandau Ballet returned, I didn't see all of that interview but they seemed to be good fun. Miley Cyrus was excellent and Helen Mirren is, well... she's Helen Mirren so that will do! Simon Pegg was in to talk about Star Trek and believe it or not, Spandau Ballet were pretty good at the end!
Does anyone know what kind of ratings he's been getting recently? I can't remember many updates since his comeback. |
