Looks like a win, win situation!

And the repeats would surely then rate higher. ITV should be looking at whether viewers are enjoying their programmes, not being so ratings obsessed.

If a show is stable at 200,000 on ITV2, it shows people like it, and a slot change might be needed because it needs to reach more people. Stable viewing figures show that a programme is liked for what it is.

Wow - well given how repellent the RT review makes it out to be it's probably just as well ITV moved it: a programme less about seasonal goodwill is difficult to imagine.

NOTES:

Heroes and Chuck were on series finales.
It's sweeps again, so all new programming on a typically busy Monday night.
NEWS:

Harpers Island moves to Saturdays as of May 2nd. Repeats of Criminal Minds and CSI will fill the Thursday 10pm slot for the next 2 weeks and then it will be occupied by the season finale of CSI: New York. Rules of Engagement is set to air on Wednesday 13th at 8pm and it should be interesting to see how it does without a Two and a Half Men lead-in.
FOX have reorganised their Sunday schedule, moving Sit Down, Shut Up to 7pm after a poor start to the series.
As previously mentioned, FOX have refused to hand over their airwaves to President Obama and will instead air a new episode of Lie to Me at 8pm.
”

Those figures for both Heroes and Chuck are really, really bad for season finales. Not just fourth in their timeslots for total viewers, but fourth too in the key demographic. No evidence, or at best marginal evidence, of any perking up of interest in either show for "big finishes".

On any Big 4 network other than NBC, cancellation would be inevitable for both of them. But Heroes will limp on (surely for only one more year, though?) and Chuck may just scrape another season because NBC have so little else to offer.

I don't think it's suitable for a Bank Holiday either. FFS!

That's the thing I like most about BGT - the live semifinals start on a bank holiday. I may not be a viewer, but I can still appreciate that it makes perfect bank holiday telly.

NBC are really in the crapper and I think renewing Heroes and Chuck with their mediocre ratings show how far they have fallen. They have a few hit shows like The Biggest Loser, the critically acclaimed comedies and a promising hit in SouthLAnd. But aside from SL, none of the new shows they have launched will be back next season.

I wonder if Heroes, season 4, will continue to bring it turkey ratings?

Compared to other networks, it will. Shows like Heroes don't tend to recover viewers. I'm on BBC3 pace and while there have been glimmers of improvement in the quality, it's still not consistent and I'm not positive that it will be sustained.

However, it's NBC's second top performing scripted show among 18-49's with a 3.6 average which is 57% above average for NBC. As we can see with the 3.0 rating for the finale, it has lost viewers across the series but 30 Rock, Law and Order: SVU and The Office are the only other shows to regularly top 3.0.

I think it might find itself exclusively on BBC3 for the next series.

Dented by the final of the celebrity cooks show last night no doubt, but also the same thing that happened with s1 if I recall - that settled with official ratings in the low 6m's generally, and it looks like s2 will do likewise.

I wouldn't write off the impact of Friday's Corrie. Trial & Retribution seems to have benefited from the lead-in, and Benidorm went from near-flop to moderate success with the Corrie lead-in and massive promotion in all the Corrie ad breaks and banners as each episode finished.

ITV1 could at least try repeating Celebrity Juice at 10.35pm.

I think it has an unfortunate title though. It's the sort of thing I would avoid when I see it on the EPG as a load of rubbish.

I'm not sure it was slated for Christmas. That article also mentions Law and Order as part of the Christmas line-up. It's just the Winter/Spring line-up they are talking about.

Found this from Danny Cohen - Controller of BBC3 last year...

Quote:
“"I feel slightly in a safer place because the overnight feels like it's starting to be diluted by things like iPlayer and timeshifting. On some programmes, the figures you get two weeks later are remarkably different to the ones that you've got the day after. On things like Doctor Who you can get a massive increase in people who have watched it on the night and total viewing - 8 million viewers on the night, 12 million overall, thanks to extra showings on BBC3 and iPlayer. And we did a documentary about the Mighty Boosh, where 30% of total viewership of that programme was online."”

BBC3 has a controller?!

I assume he job shares with the Editor of Nuts Magazine and just picks his favourite shows from the iplayer to fill the rest of the airtime

P.S - Have ITV confirmed Benidorm is going to be hourly? Seems a strange decision if so

He heard it a few months ago from the creator and then he said it again on Twitter.

Yes, that's what I thought. It's a great show with such a trashy title. I think it has all the crudentials to be a hit, apart from the name, as the most important thing about it is it doesn't take itself seriously

Most ITV shows I enjoy don't take themselves seriously. Stuff like Moving Wallpaper (I know it flopped) and Benidorm (this didn't flop).

Stuff that takes itself really seriously when it's quite a simple entertainment show, like The Colour of Money, should never see the light of day again...

...And I really hope Chris Tarrant ****s off back to Tarrant on TV and Who Wants to be a Millionaire? until he's frail so he can die gracefully like a captain of a sinking ship.

You do write a lot of nonsense. Benidorm 2nd season success was due to building its audience during season 1 and a strong following for the repeats of season 1 plus strong word of mouth support for season 2.

You just cant accept that anyone could actually watch an ITV programme because they want to & enjoy it.

Of course you are just becoming a parody of the DWF at this stage. So maybe we should just enjoy the laugh. Its more than we will get by tuning into BBC1

Couple of bits of news this morning.

Horne and Corden was the highest rated first series of a comedy show on BBC3 ever. 0.9m viewers per episode and a 6% share. BBC confirm they are persuing a second series.

Daily Mirror have ran a front page claiming there will be a cull at This Morning to save jobs. Schofield on Twitter sounds a little mad, and the article is a bit stupid, but it reveals some interesting things. It claims the budget of This Morning is double that of Loose Women per hour and it gets 1.1m, comapred to 1.3m for Loose Women. It also has confirmation from ITV that there will be a revamp of the show, hinting at people being replaced in order to refresh it, but they deny it is to do with costs.

I think Danny Cohen has made some good commissions - World's Strictest Parents, Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts (BAFTA nominated).

He also brought in a much needed revamp and starting airing Family Guy each night which has brought a whole new audience in.

I think BBC3 is better than its ever been, which is remarkable given the programming budget cut.

Interesting to see ITV's All-Hours share and Men 16-34 share for yesterday and comparing it with last Tuesday when no football was on:

All Hours Share:
Tue 21st: 17.4%
Tue 28th: 19.9%
Increase: +14.4%

Men 16-34:
Tue 21st: 9.7%
Tue 28th: 20.0%
Increase: +106%

The football gives the channel a huge boost among young males. I knew it would, but not to such a degree! The Women 16-34 was also up, although by just 3.4%.

In fairness, too, BBC3 commissioned the first season of Torchwood (though that was before Danny Cohen) and Being Human.

Personally, I also like the Real Hustle although that show is showing its age these days.

Horne & Corden, while not to my taste, is clearly a success for the station, as was Gavin & Stacey. Little Britain of course also started there.

BBC3 is not "only" repeats, though of course the proportion of new material on the channel is vastly less than on BBC1 or BBC2.

It does, and one think ITV seem to have done right is retain football rights for one night a week. That should make Wednesday nights a haven for advertisers.

Though, personally, I think ITV will end up having to contend with double the football rights next season, as Setanta surely won't be able to cope, as they're struggling with installments already. It will be sold at a cut price apparently, so there could be something good to come out of this FA Cup deal.

But all in all, I'm disappointed.

FA Cup should stay on BBC1 along with Premiership highlights. And this should have Her Majesty's stamp on it. I think FA Cup should have exclusive rights on BBC1, with every live game on there, none on Sky, as I think it's particularly important to:-

A) Make the FA Cup popular & important again
B) Ensure the stability of the competition.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I think ITV can still play a major part in sports. I really enjoyed watching Formula One on there and hope ITV can retrieve the format one day. It was produced exceptionally for a channel that had to contend with advertising revenue coming out of their ears.

I think Champions League & England games should also stay on ITV. The former has always been brilliant on ITV, and when it has been on the BBC, it hasn't lived up to expectation.

One thing ITV can do is make an event out of something. Although I think a new presenter is needed, I think Clive Tyldsley is brilliant. I also think ITV should use Jon Champion more, as he is in my opinion the best commentator in the game and he's stuck commentating on The Championship.

I can't believe All the Small Things is holding up, people must like it, as the audience has been stable.

Audience for the football is as expected, although I think we'll be seeing 9 million+ figures next week for the Arsenal v Man Utd especially if tonight is a cracker.
