Well I think that this is the type of show that could fit on one of the other ITV channels. I've seen the odd clip and would love to see a full episode.

Guess I'm not the only one who gave up on it after it went off the rails...very quickly.

It's still doing OK and it picks up another 1 million on BBC3 at 10.30pm.

Even in the US, compared to the rest of NBC, it's fine. Especially in the demo's. The problem is that they've commissioned another series and if it keeps falling at this rate, how low will it be by the end of series 4?

Just a hypothetical here...had Lost remained on Channel 4, what sort of ratings would it be getting now?

It seems to me that most US imports, with a few exceptions such as the CSI franchise and Friends, have a very short shelf life over here. Lost however; seemed to, partly at least, spark a real drive towards US TV over here, resulting in many flops and very few hits.

A relief perhaps because otherwise I fear UK broadcasters would've become too reliant on imports. That wouldn't be healthy IMO.

I think it was Desperate Housewives that started it.

Getting 4m for its first episode shocked everyone and made Channel 4 delay Lost and move it from E4 to Channel 4.

There does seem to be a huge problem with these shows longevity though.

I agree but last nights episode was back to how it used to be. The original writers are back after Pushing Daisies' cancellation apparently and so I'm hopeful for the rest of this series. I don't know how it could get back its lost ratings now though.

I do wonder how Heroes would have fared if it was on another channel, would it have done a Pushing Daisies if it was on BBC1 or ITV?

I do think Heroes needs a final season or two to wrap up storylines so that fans can have a satisfying ending. It's happening with Lost and I think Heroes would benefit too.

Channel 4 doesn't seem to air much US imports leaving most of them to their sister channels. Five are still dedicated to showing them since its one of their hallmarks with CSI still pulling in 3m and the likes of NCIS, CSI: Miami and NY still pulling in 2m+.

I really don't get BBC One's balancing with their dramas. Towards the end of last year, we had Wallander (Sunday), Spooks (Monday), Survivors (Tuesday) and Apparations (Thursday) all airing in the same week. Then after this glut of dramas, we're left with one hour of 9pm drama a week, with a couple of other one-off dramas and documentary fillers.

Surely (if it was ready to air) Nature's Great Events could have aired towards the end of last year and BBC One could have had a big launch of Survivors in the New Year.

Balancing the distriubution of their dramas (and to be prefectly honest, scheduling in general) seems to be something that BBC One are slipping up on at the moment.

According to Whats on TV, Hole in the Wall returns for a new series on Saturday.

It's on at 4.35pm, before a new Jason Manford series (5.05pm), before the news (5.35pm) and before a Total Wipeout repeat (5.55pm).

Is this really a new series? Dale Winton was on Paul O'Grady just a few weeks ago saying it had not been re-commissioned.

It could be the remaining episodes of the first series, did they show all ten episodes?

Ah yes, I almost forgot that C4 chose to keep DH over Lost. When the news first came out I found that surprising initially, not so much on the ratings side as DH was generally rating better, but because C4 had really bigged Lost up and got behind it; showing their support for the show and making a statement about it's quality in the process and it felt as if they were very committed to it what with all the exposure it was getting through them. I suppose Sky were relieved at their decision as DH would look out of place on Sky1.

Sky's blatent bullying tactics continue to plague British television some years later. Not much changes, but it's both regrettable and concerning in equal measure that BSkyB continues to exert so much influence and hold so much power over the industry. A debate for another time and certainly another place perhaps.

As far as US imports go, I would expect UK broadcasters to be far more cautious from now on, especially during these grim financial times. I think the BBC and ITV in particular will back well off, with C4 and Five picking up a select few here and there, more especially to bolster their multi-channel vehicles. Sky will probably get free reign again for the most part, which is terrible news for them as they are awful at picking out hits themselves from the seemingly endless pool of new US commissions each year, even with all the screenings they attend.

Has it really a been a year since the last one?

It was aired at the same time as the most recent Strictly Come Dancing, so I'd say about five months!

Apprentice tonight, can't waiit. I hope it does well. I believe it got 6.7 million for the comic relief episode, which is near what series 3 managed at it's peak so I expect a 7 million opener for this series with a 10 million finale, whether it'll manage it though, we'll have to wait and see. Hope it gives waterloo road a good kick up the arse in the ratings.

They could always put in on Sundays at 10.20pm on BBC1. It might scrape 1m there and beat the current occupant.



At least they have realised that its not fit for primetime. Maybe it will run between Final Score & the early evening news in the old Basil Brush/ Pink Panther slot of many years ago. I'd prefer if they brought the Pink Panther back personally

Typical Tuesday then....hardly set anything alight.

The Beeb and ITV haven't really gone nuts for US imports for about twenty years. There was a time, in the mid-eighties, when you used to get imports on BBC1 and ITV in prime time regularly but the likes of Dallas and Dynasty tailed off and their replacements, like LA Law, were never that popular.

There was a bit of a renaissance in the mid-nineties when The X Files and Superman were big hits, but I think you can cite the exact moment when ITV, at least, fell out of love with imports in prime time was when they bought Millennium, Chris Carter's X Files follow-up, for a million pounds an episode only to realise they couldn't show it before 10pm as it was so grim, and it flopped massively. But then, The X Files was not really a consistent hit, it was a big success for a year or two but by the time it ended it had long since moved away from prime time, and back to BBC2.

just to let you know that Eleventh hour ends early in america soon, the slot will be taken over by 'Harpers Island' in mid April... Im not sure if 11th hour will be back for a 2nd season, it does 'OK', but it should be doing better behind CSI
