Are there any queen fans about?

I wasent too mad on Rodgers replacing freddie but this new guy Adam well Id prefer it if they wouldnt just take on reality kids for a mega band like Queen. Not a bad voice but he aint no Freddie.

How many shows did they record?

I have the Wembley, Bowl, Budapest, Montreal DVDs on order as well as the Rio one but wondered did anything else get recorded in the bands old days with Mercury barring Rainbow & Japan which reviews say dont bother with.

I know about the huge stack of bootlegged ones people filmed in the crowd but wondered why there wasent more professionally recorded ones. Ive seen clips of the final Live one they did which was part of a doc but seems strange they dont release the full thing.

Finally was there a reason as to why the final singles of Freddie havent been released on DVD as they got replaced by other songs. They were on VHS but not DVD and seems odd why they didnt get put on the DVD hits release as the ones I mean is Slightly Mad, These are the Days.

In the Too much love promo video Freddie is wearing a orange jumper and I gather this vid was just stuff prom promo stuff or live shows but I cant work out where the orange jumper clip came from. Any ideas?

If your talking about Knebworth, that is literally it in the documentary. DoRo Productions who filmed it shot what they wanted and nothing more. I think they have the full audio feed in archive though

Like Adam and Brian have both said, he isn't replacing or trying to be like Freddie. But there must be something about him for them to want to work with him and be the lead singer in their music. He isn't just a reality kid who they have take on. For starters he is 32 years old who got his name out there through American Idol and carved out a successful solo career. I don't see an issue. It won't be forever. But this experience allows more people to know who Adam is, attract a new generation to queen's music and it's also just a bit of fun at the end of the day. Of course Adam is no Freddie but fans need to be open minded that it isn't the case of whose better than Freddie or whether he is replacing him.

Was the jumper yellow or defiantly orange. As he wore a yellow jumper in the Headlong video. Ref DVDs with Freddie. The Rainbow gig is just wonderful, best DVD I have bought in years. If a review says don't bother they do not know what they are talking about.

Other concerts in the 70s were filmed Hammersmith 1975, Hyde Park 1976, Huston and Earls Court 1977 and Hammersmith 1979. None of these have been released yet. However Hammersmith 1975 has been rumoured for a while.

There was going to be a third volume of Greatest Flix. This has been delayed for years. I think one reason is because Brian and Roger do a commentary on them. Those last videos are a bit painful to see. So maybe Brian and Roger don't want to do this yet.

Yeah nobody will be Freddie, but I'd give Lambert kudos for not trying to emulate Freddie and just singing the songs in his style.

Lets be brutally honest, they've taken on Lambert to sell the band to a new generation and it does seem to have worked to a certain extent. Somebody I work with was beaming about that his daughter has now become a Queen fan thanks to Lambert. He's particularly pleased see wants to go to the live show with him which would have previously been a distinct no-no.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivbO3s1udic at 2:19 you can see the orange jumper. Its not from his early days as you can see a beard so guessing its late 80s after Queen live stuff ended.

Was their a reason they stopped doing Dont stop me now on live shows? Always loved that song and seems a shame they only did it for 79 when they released it and didnt live it again not even once during the 80s.

The too much love will kill you video that must have been the only time it was just a clipped video. I know he wasent well around this time but info has said it was around 1988 possibly before which I recall seems odd they didnt film it in a studio like they did for the May 91 videos.

I take your point on the later vids. Even I find them difficult to watch even though I love the songs. I suppose thats the advantage of listening to a album rather than watching a music video.

Is there anything live for freddie post Queen touring apart from Great pretender?

The Colour on the vid is odd that is from the Headlong Video from 1991 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhyaAPsT1LU . Too Much Love was recorded in 1988 but not released until 1995 on Made In Heaven.
The Show Must Go On was another clipped video.

Dont Stop Me Now was probably dropped because Brian May does not like it and they all tried to keep each other sweet when doing live stuff.

Freddie did do some stuff live with Montserrat Caballé in 1987. After that though it was video only. The Miracle Videos. I Want It All, Breakthru, Scandal, The Invisible Man and The Miracle all featured Freddie at some point. Whilst the Inuuendo Vids, Inuuendo was clips and animation. IGSM, Headlong and TATDOOL as we know did feature Freddie for the last time.

Headlong was filmed at 3 different dates. Freddie wearing a Blue shirt and Tie was around November 1990, Blue Shirt and Waistcoat December 1990. Whilst the Yellow Sweater was around Jan-March 1991. He looks a lot thinner and ill in these shots. Also it was the last video shot in colour of Freddie.

I liked the Living on my Own solo song he did. Man that would have been good to hear that one live.

Any good queen documentaries on DVD?

Ive ordered from amazon days of our lives as I saw this on TV and it was good.

It wouldnt suprise me if they just repackaged older ones but would like to know if any other decent ones are about. I have both the greatest hits dvds as they had one on one of them but figured id ask advice here.

Obviously the Kenny/freddie one isnt out which is a shame & I think the pretender one ill have to pick up due to a Freddie interview on there.

Thats odd. I could have sworn the video of the show must go on had clips of Freddie standing in front of the camera in a suit behind the i want to break free set as he looked slimer.

Given that these videos were recorded in the 80s seems a shame they didnt film any studio work for the video.

I think you are mixing it up with the Great Pretender Vid. He is in his pink suit on the I Want To Break Free Vid set at one point.

They did do a bit of Studio Filming when making One Vision. Though they disliked the cameras being there while they were creating.

Yeah just noticed that.

Why didnt they film something new in the other video. I want it all is deff the best vid of the lot has a great performance. Thanks to your link you helped me find another vid where they sing on the back of a train. Wonderful stuff. I see there was a few songs I missed.

Any recommendations on what good documentaries are on DVD?

I have days of our lives but anything else?

Not on DVD but the VHS of Champions of The World was a good one.

I love the Breakthru video. It's a good song and I love Trains and Queen so it's a win win there.

I think Argentina in 1981 may have been filmed.

My girlfriend and I like Lambert's voice, just not with the remains of Queen. We watched the broadcast on New Year's Eve, and were quite disappointed. The combo should have worked but somehow didn't.

Lambert desperately needs a rock band his own age, and songs better suited to his talent and vocal range. Not sure why May and Taylor won't let go, and accept that the Queen is dead. They could still carry on making music, in any number of new combinations with other musicians, preferably in their own age group. But milking the legacy has just got to stop, before they become as embarrassing as the Stones.

Personally I felt they should just continue their effort to releasing songs that have been previously unreleased. Everyone just listens to the old stuff.

Queen died in 1991 for me when Freddie departed.

Sure, if they like, but I can't help think how poor such material must be if the company can't be bothered to exploit it. So, possibly only of interest to completists. In the mean time, why not do something new with a new band? It worked for the Travelling Wilbury's, prior to Roy Orbison's demise.

Yes, it can't ever really be Queen without the iconic singer. Unlike the Who, a band that retain credibility and interest precisely because they still have the singer and the songwriter.

It was only one track with MJ and I personally don't think it's very good. Freddie sings the opening verses. Then it's Jackson with Freddie Mixed low.

Brian doesn't like Don't Stop Me Now as he felt the Freddie was celebrating the "New Headonistic" life he had found for himself. Brian was worried that something could go badly wrong.

Especially with people like Paul Prenter (Freddies PA) leading him astray and going to nightclubs and basicly shagging everyone in the club.

Don't stop me now is a song which has grown more popular over time. Today, it is one of the most recognised Queen songs but it didn't have much of an impact when it was released back in 1979 (something like 80 on the US charts) and hence they dropped it from their setlist soon after the Jazz tour.

Your my best Friend seems to be another one that doesnt get a repeat on a live show since 79.

Do you know how many music videos they did for the singles? I think they did 74 singles but I reckon half of them didnt have any.

Was there a reason why Too Much Love didnt get a proper music video? It was just clips but I think it was recorded around 1988 and seems a shame we didnt get a music video with new footage or in the studio like I want it All did.

Me personally I would have loved to seen Freddie do a solo concert with all his later hits had he not got ill and passed away. I guess this was a reason the live tours ended in 86 or was their another reason? From the last doc I saw it mentioned him not knowing he had the virus till 87 time.

If you was going to recommend a documentary for a fan who hasent seen any whats the best one to go for that has interviews with the man and goes over the songs he did in his later life?
