They seem to be missing a ton of the classic hits though.

Did the Platinum album cover all the solo hits?

Pretender is on there as well as Living on my Own.

George Michael on that album seems a odd choice.

Yes vol 3 has all the big solo hits. The George Michael one was from a number 1 EP. A Winters Tale is probably the only real ommison from the Greatest Hits set.

Of all Queen UK singles the missing ones on Platinum are.

Vol 1

Keep Yourself Alive, Tie Your Mother Down, Spread Your Wings,

Vol 2

Body Language, Backchat, Scandal

Vol 3

A Winters Tale

Personally I don't like volume 3 as It includes a lot of dross in the Wyclef Jean version of Another One Bites The Dust. Which is awful any of the above missing songs could have been included.

Not a fan of Vol 3 either. It's got a few great tracks on (Heaven for Everyone, Thank God It's Christmas) but it's go so much rubbish on too. I love Elton but the version of Show Must Go On is terrible. I'd have prefered some of the previous missing singles to have been put on it - including the brilliant Scandal!

Indeed the only redeeming feature of the Elton Show Must Go On. Is the fact that it is John Deacon's last ever apperance on a Live Queen track.

I have made my own version and added a volume IV.

Volume 3

Keep Yourself Alive
Scandal
Barcelona
Too Much Love Will Kill You
Calling All Girls
You Don't Fool Me
Heaven For Everyone
Las Palabras De Amor
Driven By You
Living On My Own
Let Me Live
The Great Pretender
Princes Of The Universe
Tie Your Mother Down
No-One But You
These Are The Days Of Our Lives
A Winter's Tale

Volume 4

Death On Two Legs
Liar
Spread Your Wings
Back Chat
One Year Of Love
Flick Of The Wrist
White Queen (As It Began)
Pain Is So Close To Pleasure
Tenement Funster
Under Pressure (Queen & David Bowie)
Jealousy
The Show Must Go On (Queen & Elton John)
Love Of My Life (Live)
Somebody To Love (Queen and George Michael)
Body Language
Need Your Loving Tonight
It's Late
Thank God It's Christmas

They left scandal out? Yet put in another version of the show must go on but with Elton John? Seems a bit pointless having the same song on both cds just with elton doing one.

I would have thought the 1993 version of living on my own would be a better choice.

I wouldnt say vol 3 is terrible because it still has the excellent song Too much love will kill you which is a fantastic song so full of energy.

Just thought I'd say I went to the O2 London show on Saturday and I can honestly say it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Two hours of solid greatest hits with a few album tracks thrown in (Lap of the Gods, 39, Stone Cold Crazy) plus they did a drum/bass medley of some lesser known hits (Body Language, The Invisible Man). Lambert did not try to impersonate Mercury and did the songs justice (his voice is truly incredible). Could have easily watched them for eight hours. Great show.

Body Language? I'm suprised that's there in any form as Roger hates that song.

In a way, I feel Queen would have done well by releasing The Platinum Collection with a modified tracklisting. The third volume is a cash-in that is nowhere near to the level of the previous two discs, when Queen's singles discography actually fits quite nicely and you can easily make three 17-track volumes by simply altering the years they cover and adding a few of the more "minor" hits. See below:

Spoiler

I think it's a more enjoyable experience listening to Queen's hits in that way than in the "official" way.

Well, it was just the bass line really. I remember hearing somewhere that Roger hated Another One Bites the Dust too, and pretty much all of their stuff from The Game / Hot Space era.

That song was on every live tour and thankfully they kept using it.

Whats to hate about it?

I think for Roger it was the fact that, at the time, that song took them in a completely new direction. They were a full on rock band before The Game, so to then come up with a funk track seemed incomprehensible. Ultimately, despite the success of Another One Bites The Dust, this new sound didn't work at all for Queen. Hot Space, which was built primarily around funk/dance, was a flop. Luckily, they realised this and returned to form with The Works, although certain elements of that era can still be heard in later tracks. Another One Bites the Dust is fantastic live, because they give it more of a 'rock' sound. Freddie played around with it a lot during the Magic tour, adding an improve section and hitting incredible notes.

Apparently Roger had no issue with it live but just didn't think it was single material.....he was wrong lol 😊
As has been pointed out, the huge success of it in USA prompted the change for hot space, which didn't work at all but as Freddie said at the time "it's only a bloody record" 😀
It would have been interesting had Another one bites the dust kept its original lyrics about Cowboys....

Also it reminds him of Paul Prenter, Freddie's PA and the guy who always rushed Freddie out of the studio to go clubbing. He encorgaged Freddie to write songs that would sound good in the Gay bars. Prenter eventually sold Freddie out to the press re his gay lifestyle and that two of his lovers had died of AIDS. Prenter himself died of AIDS around 1990.

Although Roger complains about the Funk direction. It was one of his songs on the Jazz album Fun It that was in this style. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oNo8r8-8ro

Is that why Brian hates Your my best friend and Dont stop?

Man they should have done those live in the 80s.

Not aware of Brian hating your my best friend. His thoughts on Don't stop me now were explained earlier in the thread (it's in the set list on their current tour)

The only thing I have ever heard about Your My Best Friend was Freddie disliking the electric piano. He refused to play it so John Deacon did. Freddie did like the song though and enjoyed singing it.

Freddie was a great Pianoist.

One thing of many I liked is that he would take notes of what the fans liked at live shows and interacted with them.

I dont think I have ever come across any musicial ever who would do this.

He was but he only liked to play Piano's not Electric keyboards. "Why play those things when you've got a lovely super grand piano?"

Thats probably why he plays well on Bohemien Rhapsody.

Living on my Own the 1993 remix sounds alot better than the original one I guess the original has a long pause at the start.

The version of Living on my own that's included on Greatest hits 3 and was originally on the 'Freddie Mercury album' released in 1992 is not good IMO & I far prefer the original 1985 Mr Bad guy version....(most of the remixes on the Freddie Mercury album were poor in comparison....even Time & In my defence were unnecessarily remixed)
However, The disco version that was released as a single in 1993 was a far better mix and was no1 so therefore not sure why this version wasn't the one on the hits package....

Living on my own remix was way better than the original. The original had far too long a wait before he sung.

Is their any difference between theplatinum release and the rerelease in 2011?

Trying to go through a kind of chronology order for the queen singles from when they stopped touring live to freddie death and wondered where the Freddie solo songs would fit in.

Living on my own seems to have been shot before I want it all & I guess Great Pretender would have been done before Im going slightly mad but after Breakthru as hes clean shaven.

Living on my own video was shot at Freddies Birthday party in 1985.
Great pretender was 1987
Barcelona videos (Barcelona, golden boy & how can I go on) 1988.
I want it all, breakthru, invisible man, scandal and the miracle; 1989
Headlong was shot 1990-1991 depending on the scene.
I'm going slightly mad early 1991
These are the days of our lives shot in May 1991. The last shot of Freddie on camera.

Why is Bohemien Rhapsody named by fans as the greatest ever hit Queen done? When ever their is a top Queen hits its always rated number when there are far superior songs in the queen anthology.

Most Queen fans regard it as a good song. The GBP regard it as Queens greatest. Most serious fans would say tracks like March Of The Black Queen and In The Lap Of The Gods revisited are the best ones.
