Why is DS so slow in loading?

It hangs for about a minute before it gets on a thread.

Yes, because the problem wasn't very likely to be with your PC, as other websites were presumably loading OK. So, it's a website problem or a browser problem. If after trying another browser, DS still doesn't load correctly, then it is most likely a website problem.

And here we are.

It's not the DS web site itself. It's either your PC or your ISP.

Anyway, this is the GD forum, not computer forum, so if the problem persists, start a thread in there.

I must've missed it because everything is working.

There is still something wrong with them as I keep getting page loading hangs on Safari via an iPad. If I use chrome with ad blocker, or switch to the mobile site, they are fine.

It is very very slow to load at the moment. I immediately blamed the adverts ... but perhaps they aren't to blame after all. I click on forums and then have to wait about 2 mins for the threads to come up.

Use AdBlock Plus and you will find the adverts disappear !

Yeah seems to be hanging at a certain point in the page load process. Started last night.

I can go on any of my usual websites and they load normally. This one is the only one dragging, it's taking ages.

It isn't my PC or ISP at fault (and waiting for a reply on the computer forum will take longer than it'll take to fix this.)

Sort something out, DS, I'm not the only one here getting this.

Sorry RM that you are having problems. I am okay I have the threads that I follow load up automatically on Firefox on my PC. When I get an e-mail informing me there is a new post I just refresh the window and that happens almost immediately.

I have also tried opening a new window and going to a new, randomly selected, thread and it loaded straight away.

I will try the iPad shortly to see if the problem only occurs with Safari.

If it is none of that, you will have to get a mallet

Thanks, Martin.

I'm using iPad/Safari, but am having no lag or other problems anywhere else, just here and very badly.

Mallet at the ready!

Sorry, it is going to be a mallet job! I am having no problems with Safari.

Is it the whole of DS or just this thread?

Whole of DS.

Edit - seems to be running at normal speed for me at present. Was definitely lagging earlier.

Thanks again, Martin, for your help.

I couldn't get on last night, just got 'the page isn't redirecting properly' in both Firefox and Chrome.

It still taking forever to load for me. Plus that blummin Dyson advert means that you cant hit the 'forum jump' button which I always use as its covering it over.

I had the same in Firefox and IE and am another one who tried restarting I then tried on my tablet and got the same thing so assumed (and hoped) the problem was at the DS end rather than mine. It's been fine for me today

It's really fast for me at the moment and I'm not having any problems which is odd.

It's Unicode geometric character 9684, usually works in .html by typing &#9684 but DS is weird so not here. It does on many forums & websites though, or by copy-paste as here ◔ .

Let's try again in hex: ◔ . Nope, stupid DS as usual. Maybe someone knows a workaround other than copy-paste.
