Left undisturbed for 9 months a Cadburys Crème Egg will hatch into a fully developed Cadbury.

This discussion again?

Its the same as always - costs of manufacturing, raw ingredients, distribution etc are all rising. The public won't accept an increase in the price of the product so the manufacturer decreases the size of the product to absorb the increase to their costs. Happens with many products.

The end.

Apparently they've changed the chocolate as well. They're no longer using Dairy Milk.

it's inflation.

a packet of crisps is over 50p, bought as a single. I remember when they were 2d for plain, and 2.5d (tuppence ha'penny) for flavours. ie about 1p.

let's complain to walkers.

Although we generally accept that inflation causes the price of goods to rise, I think it's the surreptitious-ness of 'shrinking' the goods to increase the profit margin that gets people's backs up. It feels sneaky and dishonest, but that's advertising and marketing for you.

I would happily pay £1.10 for a 2005 sized one.

it not though. It's just inflation. Costs rise. At some point either the price goes up, or the quantity /quality goes down.

Doesn't matter what the product is.

Yes, I heard a discussion about this yesterday on the radio. I've had a couple already and did think it wasn't quite the same, but just put that down to the fact it has been about 9 months since I last had one.

I was in tesco earlier and they are 3 for a pound. Id say that's cheaper than they have ever been, as in my mind they were always about 40p

Consumers will accept size/quantity decreases easier than price increases.

I'm sure they were about 7p when I first bought in them the 1970's and back then they were a big as a dustbin lid.

They often don't notice it either, like if you reduce a bag of M&M's by 30g. It's not as if the store is going to have the old size next to it on the shelf for comparison. The change from 6 to 5 eggs is obvious, other size changes less so unless it's a product you buy a lot.

They were 3 for a pound at Poundland last year. At ASDA the regular price is currently 65p which is 20p more than a Mars bar at 45p.

I've heard far more complaints about how they've fiddled with the chocolate shell than about the size of them this year.

They are no different in size than any other year are they? Can't seem to find any evidence that they are.
