I'm getting sick of waiting for my local cabinet to be connected. Why can't BT tell me when it will be available? Very jealous of those of you getting fast speeds! I'm getting 4mbs with TalkTalk and want to move to BT but only when I can get fibre. I live in a town but the cabinet is endlessly "under review"!

Yep, same here. Fast approaching a year now. Was originally 31st March 2014 now it's the end of this March. I keep checking the counties BDUK page for updates.

But if anyone asks if i've got fibre yet I just reply with.. "Oh, i've had fibre for years, it's really good!" .. and just conveniently forget to tell them it's the link between my Sky+HD and surround sound

I'm still waiting as well. About 18 months ago i had a BT guy here fixing the line. I asked about fibre optic considering that the surrounding area has had it for ages. The guy told me if our street had a double cabinet it would be done by now. Apparently it's not worth their while updating single cabinets. I've phoned to enquire a few times since, but they don't know and don't really care. The only time i got anything near an answer was when BT phoned me trying to get me to stay with them. I asked about fibre and the person said "Yea, it's due there soon. Maybe by summer or late 2014" but i'm pretty sure he was telling me what i wanted to hear just to keep me as a customer.

Same for me they have installed put 4 green box things down my road its just about 10 houses away last month there is a large one 2 medium and a small box to.
But they said today

As you may know, we normally provide fibre via a green cabinet that you see by the road side. Unfortunately you fall into a small proportion of homes and businesses that are served directly by your local exchange, by what we call an ‘exchange only line’. This means that our normal way of connecting you won’t work, however we are busy working on solutions to make this viable in the future.



We are building new network to much more people all the time, it has only been a few years since we started delivering our new fibre services and we can already reach 21 million households. We believe this is the fastest roll- out of this type anywhere in the world. We are also continuing to build on this in conjunction with the Government who have an ambition to reach as many residents in the UK as possible in the coming few years.



We appreciate that this is of little comfort if you cannot access the network yourself. However, as part of the ambition to reach as many people as possible, we are continually looking at new ways to deliver fibre services to those who currently cannot receive it.



So this is not the end of the story for you. It’s worth keeping an eye on our website, it’s where we publish the very latest fibre coverage information which will include the use of new technologies and we update it weekly.

what really annoys me are people who have access to FTTP and then get a 80/20 package

Have been waiting years for Fibre to come to my village, it arrived in November last year, showing as exchange enabled, then all the green fibre cabinets started appearing, and now in Jan this week on the BT Openreach checker its showing AO = Accepting Orders.

Straight off to BT and signed up and finally getting fibre next week.

Once ours progressed it all went pretty quick tbh.

I had signed up to be notified by BT when it was available, that email never came.

I have a friend that lives in a town where all neighbouring streets have had fibre for years, yet their street, nothing except dates getting put back all the time.

Our exchange area has been upgraded, all except for our cabinet which has been deemed unviable by both BT and the local authority project. The local authority say they are evaluating it for the next round of government funding, but that means it will be at least 2018 before we will be able to get more than the 2.5 Mbps (0.2 upload) we get now.

What really sucks is that Virgin Media have recently upgraded the area down the road from us and they ran the cable along the main road through our area to do it. Unfortunately, they decided not to lay down any connections to allow our area to be upgraded in the future so they would have to dig the whole road up again and re-lay the cables for our area to get fibre, which would be too expensive, they say. Gits!

If the cost of the 80/20 connection is nearly the same, or the same, as the 330Mbits one then yes, I agree. If not, I can see why they chose the 80/20 for.

What really annoys me is people who have an HD TV, Sky TV and who get the basic/original bundle. Just get Family Bundle in HD wtf? xD

BT wants about £50 for 330/20, if I remember correctly, so it's still quite a bit more than 80/20.

If only BT/Openreach didn't play this silly lottery game in the first place so more people could actually get FTTP.

(like the digital divide used to be the dialup have nots vs the ADSL haves, it's now going to be the FTTC plebs vs the FTTP 1%ers)

I have had fibre from BT since March 2011 and I have to say there Infinity service has improved since the early days when I first got it.

We'll get there in the end, but it'll likely be about 8 years at least before it happens. BT don't seem to be in a hurry to get as many internet users as possible on FTTP. The opposite is true for some other countries. It doesn't really bother me where I am because I get good speeds. People who are a good distance from the cabinet will need FTTP though.

FTTP still don't seem to be in a good few areas of the country and even if it did come to my area I would be in now hurry to get it due to cost per month.
Im the now happy with FTTC and speeds of between 66mb and 73.4mb.
My BT packages are dear enough without paying near £50 per month for FTTP if it came along.
Even if FTTP gives far better speeds than FTTC price per month would have to be a little lower before I would even think about FTTP.

FTTP would have to be priced between £20-£30 for me to get it if my cabinet was FTTP enabled.

That's the thing though, there are people today who are at the end of long lines on FTTC cabinets, who aren't likely to see a substantial speed increase until BT gets more taxpayer money for round two in 10 years time.

They're on an FTTC cabinet, that adds to the total of "superfast" homes as far as BT/local authority are concerned.

You could have 80Mbit on FTTP for the same price as 80Mbit FTTC, if you are in an FTTP area. The difference is that you'd get that 80Mbit regardless of where you live or how far away from the cabinet you are.

There's also a 160Mbit package for a little bit more (I forget what it costs), but less than £50.

Cornwall is said to have the highest percentage of FTTP in the country, and even it only has about 23% of homes on FTTP - and it's still a huge lottery (with parts of streets having FTTP and the rest getting FTTC, rural farmhouses getting FTTP, etc)

FTTP is coming soon by the look of it. I've had a card to say:

However, the BT Infinity line checker says it's not available to order yet.

BUT, at the weekend I noticed a sign had been put up at the beginning of my lane to say BT Openreach will be installing additional poles to bring FTTP to our homes.

When I had a survey carried out over a year ago, the miseryguts from Openreach said it was the most difficult job he'd ever seen, and as a result I was told no, so I'm very pleased that it does now appear to be happening soon.

Sorry to annoy you, but I won't be ordering 300mbps when I get FTTP either. 80/20 is plenty fast enough for my needs: Streaming videos, internet browsing, and VOIP. I only have a 4Mbps connection at the moment and that's fast enough to do two of those things at once. If I'm streaming video, I don't make phone calls.

I have had Infinity1 for just over two years and am very happy.
The boys who come and sort out my computer who have a small business round the corner cannot get fibre, I suppose the problem is some one has to be first in line and someone has to be last, doesn't seem fair but thats life I guess.

I live in Cornwall and BT have just rolled out Superfast to the local cabinet (FTTC). I've upgraded to Infinity, with a Home Hub 5. Bad install with a poorly informed engineer.

Disappointed with it. I'm going to ask them to let me re-connect the Home Hub 3. While I was getting 5Mbps download. Things are (mostly) worse with Infinity.

Spent an hour and a half on the phone to their "technical" department that just read the same things off the card over and over before concluding that it must be my computer equipment.

By a process of elimination, if it works everywhere but at home, then it must be the Home Hub. I can send emails, but largely cannot connect to and web page with any graphic content. In the end I contacted the supplier of my gear, who were very helpful and found that while I am getting 18Mbps upload I'm getting less than dial up speed on download.

Another hour on the phone today, with a promise of a call back at 8.00pm - which of course never happened.

So to those that feel their lives aren't complete because they can't get Infinity - trust me it doesn't get any better.

What's really a p*** take is you get adverts from BT themselves asking to upgrade to super fast broadband and how so much cheaper it is than what I got running on outdated ADSL line. Waiting for 5 years now for the update and all I see is coming soon on there site.
