Don't get me wrong, high quality phones but not for me. I also think they are far too common these days! good to have something different I think

I thought they were getting less common as Android grabs the market share. I havent seen very many iPhone 6's

Android isn't a handset though it's a platform spread over hundreds of brands and models so my own personal opinion is there is no handset more popular than the iPhone (although the Galaxy mini's seem to come close)

I work in photo retail and see hundreds of mobile phones a day.

Why worry about how common something is?

As long as it suits me I don't care if everybody has one whatever it is.

Depends on who your circle of friend, work colleagues etc. Most of mine have Galaxies or Sony's of varying models. So in fact in my social circle they are pretty rare, iPhone 6/6+ are not to be seen. That's not to say the phones they have are better as many complain about them

Having something different just to be different it just a bit odd. Get what you like and suits you best,

How about a Motorola V50? Really uncommon these days, I would guess you would be pretty unique with one of those now...

I agree it seems bit odd to worry about how common something is. Heck, those mobile phone things are awfully common, so why not buy one of those one handed watches instead. I don't think many people have one of those.

I thought market share figures show that far more people have Android anyway?

No no no no no.. It has to be a V70.. I loved that phone.. All 8 days it lasted before it broke. I had about 6 of them in the end, but it looked so 'cool' at the time.

Inspiration for their new watch..?

I have an iphone 6 Plus which I don't think is that common. I couldn't care less everyone and their granny had one it works perfectly and I have no desire whatsoever to go back to my Motorola G 4g back up.

I remember in the early days of mobiles when my mum got me a Nokia 8890 I was Mr popular at school then. Nobody really had mobiles let alone a phone like the 8890 which still looks amazing even now. You don't get mobiles like that anymore unless you buy a Vertu for obscene amounts of money.

I avoided having an iphone for years, and was proud of having a Windows Phone as it was different. However, I realised that an iPhone actually made sense for me since I use a lots of apps on my ipad, some for business. Also, my wife had an iPhone so the iMessage system is ideal.

It's not about fashion, it's about what's the most suitable phone for you.

Isn't the 6+ one of the best selling phones in the last 6 months? Which tends to imply that it is popular and relatively "common".

But I'll second the comment that it doesn't matter if a device is common, or only sold 3. If it works and does what you want, then it doesn't matter.

Shame that there isn't a phone on the market with the design flair of the 8890 or Moto V3. They really are just variants on a monoblock slab of plastic. Which is a shame .... (and no, no phone in the last few years has come close to the iconic design of the v3)

I don't get the love for these old crap arsed phones from the past. All you could do with them was speak to people or text them which has got to be the least important use for a mobile phone.

Yes there are lots of iPhones, But you see a lot of Samsung phones as well. Anything that was bought because of the brand and not the actual use is pretty sad. I have seen people ignore superior devices in phone shops and coo over the overpriced piece of crap that is the SGS3 mini. The same with the iP4S.

Least important use for a mobile PHONE is speaking to people? Says a lot about people if they're buying phones primarily to not talk to people ....

Some of these "crap arsed" phones had battery life that stretched into weeks. They had design flair that just doesn't exist these days. And in the case of business phones, the most important functions are calls and emails. Most of which was possible on those older devices.

largely the popularity amongst certain sectors that makes them 'must haves' regardless.

For alot of people the most important use for a phone is what else they can do with it other than talking ie: taking photos, listening to music, Internet browsing, games, youtube, facebook etc.

Different strokes for different folks - my primary use for my personal "phone" is as a permanently connected, highly portable mini computer. The fact that it can make calls is just a bonus.

Texting (Via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger etc) is still talking. Its just not disruptive.

I work for a large accountancy firm, and I would say the average age of the staff were younger than me, and I'm not old. iPhones outnumber Androids by about 8:1. I'd say they were common (among younguns with plenty of cash anyway).
